Journal:

The Grackenwald Depository
-"The Grackenwald Depository is locked up tighter than a titan's tights" [Smokey]
-"The depository is privately owned, its collecting and deliverin' taxes as a charged service" [Smokey]
-a private canal entrance that runs through a secure checkpoint into the side of the treasury. Gondolas can depart or arrive through this private canal to make the transport of large amounts of valuables more secure it seems. The Armored Gondola will definitely use this internal dock.

Phineas Copperleaf
-"he oversees the transfer of taxes between the depository and the crown" [The Boss of Grackenwald Depository]

Gondola's Route:
-"There is only one route they can take that don't go through the slums starts here and goes to here." [Smokey]
-"They'll start around noon, and it'll take an hour to get there" [Smokey]

The Broadwater Bridge
-An exceptionally large bridge that the Armored Gondola must pass under, it is located in the Docks. It may even be one of the largest bridges in New Dunhaven.

The Canyon
-A long winding stretch of the city's canals that has no streets on either side of it, only tall buildings with sporadic alleys between them. It is located in the Commoner's District.

Armored Gondola
-"We can expect four guards. Two in the front, two in the back. Two drivers too." [Smokey]
-"The gondola is treated to be as tough as iron, and its twenty feet long and ten wide" [Smokey]
-"As for the drivers, they are hired and vetted by the depository" [Smokey]

Guards
-"They're watchmen, they work fer the depository not the Crown" [Smokey]
-"anyone Captain rank or higher is an Agent of the Crown" [Smokey]
-"All the guards are usually outside with the gondoliers" [Smokey]

Contacts, Agents, and Assets:
-Yellow-Toothed Cyrus: a very odd and sagely 'The Forgotten' member who gave you the job.
-Abbad Abaddi: A "Forgotten" Alchemist who has agreed to forgo payment to help you in anyway he can. You just have to pick it up

-One Dose of a slow acting ingested poison: requiring roughly 30 minutes before taking any noticeable effect, sealing the victims airways, rendering effective yelling, speaking, and eventually breathing impossible within minutes. It is a liquid ingested. An antidote is also made alongside it, also a liquid ingested, which will gradually free the victims airways. Of course no poison is without its flaws, this one has a rather distinct metallic taste. (Controlled by Vera)

You are making your rounds, the same as always, activity in the Cartels have been at a persistent lull pulling you into a false sense of stability, and you know it. Some beggar tugs on your clothing and in swatting them away you discover your pocket has grown heavier. Knowing better you leave to a safer place to find a ragged scrap of paper inviting you to a meeting with someone who goes by “Yellowed-Toothed Cyrus”, the seal on the letter makes it obvious it is from the Forgotten, more of a loose band then a full blown Cartel.

The meeting is in a dangerous part of the slums, using your wits, connections, or brawn you make it to a very large rundown house. The air is musty and light barely penetrates the house interior but you hear the kind olde words of Cyrus “Come in ye'hear, this here is the web”, as you gaze around you see scraps of paper around the walls with lines drawn connecting seemingly random events together. Cyrus seems like a madman, and yet even through his thick accent and seemingly dumbed down language you can sense some form of sagacity, as if he is imparting great wisdom.

You can see others in the room, each one coming through a different entrance, you didn't see them come in. Could Cyrus have somehow set it up? He grins with his toothy smile, his clothes rag, and his white disheveled hair reaching down his back. “I gots a job for you: It involves the theft of an extremely well-guarded tax collection while it is in transit between impenetrable locations” his language immediately picking up in complexity. You look to the strangers not knowing if you were chosen specifically or if you were somehow chosen at random... yet Cyrus' stance has a cheeky assurance as he hunches over a bit, places his hands together and chimes “So, are you in?” making it obvious that he isn't going to give another shred of information until after you accept.

"Oh... I-"

Ever since Francis found out about his birth he developed a sort of condescending attitude towards the lower classes. He saw himself as better than them, even though for the majority of his life he was one himself.

Which was why he was so surprised by the enormity of the task that was being asked of him by this lowly man. He didn't know the Forgotten too well, but he knew the basics of how they worked. They weren't really a cartel, but more of a disconnected mob that would occasionally call upon its members for favours. What this man was asking of him was to steal the Crown's taxes for essentially himself.

That wasn't gonna do, Francis would need to know what he was gonna get out of this before taking on such a suicidal task. Quickly, Francis' nervous stuttering shifted into a more confident tone of voice.

" -'m sorry but I cannot accept this job unless you tell me what my cut is gonna be. A practical man such as yourself can surely understand, it's just business after all."

"Clever" Cyrus states and he combs his fingers through long white beard occasionally twisting or curling. He hesitates for a moment then takes out a black envelope, letting it drop to the floor.

Even you know that this is envelope from the Black Council. Mentally are taken aback, who wouldn't? After all such a letter would mean that this is a command, and no one can refuse an order from the Black Council

"Hold your horses, this ain't an order. This is an official Job, it will be split evenly between you and your cartels. You have this letter bonafide guarantee"

You are somewhat aware of the procedure. The Black Council maintains the peace between the different cartels, settles disagreements, and even divides payment out equally. It is their decree that all jobs must involve multiple cartels. If that letter is real, he went out of his way to officiate this job. With the Council having eyes and ears everywhere such lengths are unusual and yet Yellow Toothed Cyrus seems to be going the extra step to make this job seem legitimate.

"I have a lot of friends in The Forgotten, if you do this I'll make sure they all know how you helped me out" he adds trying to sweeten the pot. "Don't let this opportunity pass you by, you won't be getting a lot of second chances in this line of work."

He seems eager or perhaps a better word is "desperate" to get this job underway.

"Thank you, these are all of my concerns. I'll accept your offer.

Though Francis still didn't trust the old man, he could trust the letter. Money is always a good thing. These fancy disguises don't pay for themselves after all.

Smokey places a fresh cigarette in his lips, lighting it with a *click* and inhaling deeply before answering.

"It'll be a good payday if this goes through, and I could use some men in the slums." He puffs out a smoke ring, accenting his gravely voice. "My gut says I should take this job. I'm in."

The ever present small smile on Vera's face breaks out into a full fledged grin as the men talk. A daring heist to steal the authorities cut of folks hard earned money, who could resist?

"In! Had me at the job description, looking forward to working with you fellas."

Billy lowered his face into the top of his trenchcoat, narrowing his eyes. They would prefer people be kept alive, and brought... a trained assassin. This lot was clearly chosen at random, which meant that his "allies" could be anything from top thieves to idiots just out of a detention cell.
Still, the letter made it official, and money can make the loudest speeches with the fewest words.

He knew he would regret this.
"Alright. I'm in."

The last member of the team-to-be had been mostly quiet up until now, only coughing demurely when the Mummer said "fellas".
"I mostly do house calls, but this seems like a great chance to branch out. I'm Anne, by the by," she says, as she straightens her plain grey dress.

Yellow-Toothed Cyrus laughs gleefully as he grabs a scrap of paper off the wall somehow creating a cloud of dust, as he spoke with his hands the cloud obediently danced like a simple shadow play.

“Deep within the Merchant's quarter is the Grackenwald Depository, four times a year it delivers the taxes from the Olverhollow Barony to the Royal Palace Treasury. I happen to have on good authority that it will deliver its funds exactly four days by now by Gondola.”

As his fingers dance a figure of a chest can be seen vaguely in the dust “I wish you to steal those taxes” he clears his throat coughing by a combination of his age and the dust in the air dispersing the cloud. “Yet lets get into the particulars, the taxes themselves are the target. If you want to make a little extra for yourself deliver the entire Armored Gondola to a little warehouse in the slums, sans guards” He then gives percise directions to Greywater making sure you remember. He then eyes of the assassin in your midst “Also be a doll and try not to 'lose' any of the Crown” as he fights his urge to condescend, a bad habit he picked up dealing with the idiots in his cartel that gets out from time to time.

“I know you must have many questions such as who is guarding the Gondola, what route it is taking, or even how the taxes are being stored.” he cackles in a knowing fashion “I am sure you will figure it out” as the papers surrounding the walls start to fall off one by one, a blizzard of documents. Once it settles Cyrus can no longer be found. An amazing feat until you can hear him scurry off in the distance, he seems awfully spry for someone of his age.

He seemed to give more information on the directions to his warehouse then on the actual details of your task, dumping almost the entire plan on your lap. You are under no obligation to complete the job, yet perhaps after coming with a plan you can see just how viable this is. Four days, in four days.

Additionally though you have not been told, you are well aware that not only would it be impressive to your Cartels, but it would help immensely if no alarm was raised until after the delivery is made. A difficult prospect.

"Well, I guess that's all he's gonna tell us about the job. Let's get out of here. The people outside are bound to become suspicious of us if we stay here too long.

And with that, Francis scribbles something on a piece of paper and leaves.

Turns out they were directions to the upper-class hotel he was staying in at the moment. As soon as everyone arrives, Francis locks the doors and windows and closes the curtains. He clears the dining table of it's silverware and then flips over a painting, revealing a map of the city with pins marking key locations such as the baron's palace, the treasury, and the warehouse. In a matter of minutes the dining room had turned into a private meeting room, perfect for discussing the plans of a heist.

Francis skips the formal introductions and cuts straight to the chase.

"So, you guys see that map on the wall? That map has everything we know on it. As you can tell, it's not a lot. Now before we start discussing legwork we need to make a decision: Are we going to be stealing the taxes directly from the palace, or are we going to intercept them somewhere along the gondolas route?

Propping herself up on the table Vera examines her nails as she talks.

"Old man said both locations were 'impenetrable', smart thing to do is hit it mid-transit, practically a necessity if we try to steal the full gondola. Vera Weston, dancer and aspiring chemist, in case you were curious."

"Ok. If we're going to hit it mid-transit, then we need to figure out what route it's gonna take. Cyrus mentioned the Grackenwald Depository. Does anyone know what it is? It might be the place we need to investigate if we want to figure out what road the Gondola is gonna travel."

Francis Callaghan by the way. Master of disguise and liar extraordinaire. If someone knows anything, I'd be able to pry the truth from them.

Smokey's cigarette was now dog-eared and near the end of its use. He removed it from his mouth to speak properly, letting out a deep breath as he does so.

"He ain't lying either." Smokey walks up to the board, pointing at locations with his cigarette as he mentions them. "The Grackenwald Depository is locked up tighter than a titan's tights. The Castle speaks for itself. There is only one route they can take that don't go through the slums starts here and goes to here. They ain't going through the slums. They'll start around noon, and it'll take an hour to get there."

Smokey steps back from the board, taking in the last of the cigarette before throwing it to the ground and stomping on it. He then pulls out a cigar while speaking, pausing several times to show a number of fingers. "We can expect four guards. Two in the front, two in the back. Two drivers too. They might kick it up if we do somethin' stupid before then."

"If it's just four guards, maybe we can find a way to overpower them? There's currently 5 of us and we'll likely be able to find more men if we need it. Once the guards and drivers are down we could take the gondola and deliver it to the warehouse.

I realize that this is a bit more direct than most of us are probably used to, and there's bound to be some factors I'm not taking into account, but if we figure them out and plan for those ahead of time then this might actually work, as silly as it seems."
