Suicidal Crossbowdwarves

Easy question.

How can I stop my crossbowdwarves from jumping Fortifications, breaking their legs and then getting slaughtered by melee troops?

Put a roof over them.
They might occasionally dodge through the fortifications by mistake due to a bug, but that can't be helped.

Not really. If they can shoot through it, they can probably dodge through it. Also applies to those being shot on the outside of your bunker when they get close enoigh. That can be Fun.

If I understood other posts correctly, dwarfs can dodge into statue tiles but not move there intentionally. What this means is that you can put statues on the other side of the dwarfs so they have a place to dodge to, but when not dodging, they will stand adjacent to the fortification and be able to shoot out, like
F_ssW         F=fortification
F_ssW         _=floor
F_ssW         s=statue
F_ssW         W=wall
I do not know if a statue tile gets higher priority over dodging through a fortification but it seems like it should.
