RADAR lets us find their fighter groups that much more easily. Combine with with our current communications dominance and it means we can pinpoint their units a lot more effectively.

Also on the race car bonus design, I don't see the issue if our "race car" happen to also have armor, a autocannon, the ability to carry a squad of soldiers, and maybe amphibious...

we might be able to sneak in amphibious... I mean, what if it rains?

And what if there's low visibility? We have to include a RADAR system.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

AS-19XX-HA "Molot"

A 200 millimeter artillery piece with a 60 caliber long barrel, primarily designed for use as a coastal batteries and as a naval gun the Molot is loaded with the shell and the bagged charge being separate. It can reach ranges up to 30 kilometers, with a shell velocity of 900 meters per second with it's 240 kilogram shells.

This would prepare us for designing a cruiser.

I have a very bad feeling of that radar train....
Can we at least make a real radar design? Not that vague lazy attempt to design several different radars?

and of course we're going to need tracks on it for traction.

Here: The DEATH RAY!
So, to clarify, we cannot shelve this discussion until after the first battle report, as we are talking about our first (non-bonus) design.

So, as I see it, it doesn't matter that much which we develop first, radar or a destroyer. I think either way we're gonna get rekt at sea for the first few turns, and there is little we can do about that. However, it was pointed out that with our superior radio tech, our destroyers would be able to find/avoid enemy ships by listening in on their communications, so having radar on them is not as important.
Thus, on the basis that our air-superiority is pretty safe at least on turn one, I guess we may as well try to stem the bleeding at sea a little bit. Again, not a huge deal, but I see the destroyer as being marginally more useful one turn earlier.

We aren't at the point where we should be voting on designs for turn one yet, but just for reference, here are my suggestions for a destroyer/radar:

Alternately:

EDIT: Also, a reminder that all these designs (and more) are available in our secret design files (non-public google doc). The link is available in the Discord (look in the pinned messages in our channel), or you can get it by sending me a PM.
We're just being a bit paranoid. You can trust pirates, right?
I vote for the smaller, Freya esque DEATH RAY v.2; It's smaller and we need it small enough to fit on our carriers. The radar they based it on, the Freya was designed to fit aboard Kriegsmarine ships afterall.

Though Freya wasn't more accurate; It was smaller and less powerful device.

There's no need to be rude. It's my understanding that Sensei wants to cut down on word counts anyways. We don't need to know exactly how RADAR works, the purpose of the thing is what matters.

My vision of the situation:

1) Tundra island is lost for a long time. We have zero chances for a successful amphibious assault. Luckily titanium is not that important... for now
2) Archipelago is even more out of reach
3) Plains and mountains have no useful resources so we can let them attack there should they wish
4) This leaves jungles that should be our main front. We need a design that works well on that front and snatch the oil from the dirty pirates

The jungle will revert to us gaining ground once we regain air superiority.

That if our opponent will not design anything useful for the front.

If we insist on designing radar, I insist on it being called the Death Ray.
And we should put in a bit more detail about how we intend for it to work. Are we aiming for a Chain-Home-esque system that is primitive AF, albeit easy to design and build, or do we jump straight to cavity magnetrons? (probably not)

But I would prefer something useful for troops on the ground in the jungle. Like an APC. Of some variety.
