Another problem is that game system changed between games. The system that allowed Cannalla to build all it's vessels was much, much more forgiving than the system we use.

For example :

Khorne Class Battleship: The Khorne is a massive battleship with six gun batteries, each of which is armed with three Nightstorm Howitzers. The armored gun batteries are arranged in a group three on the front and back in stair step formation, so all six batteries can be used in a broadside or three against a target to the bow or stern. The guns are loaded with hydraulic rammers but are otherwise similar to standard Nightstorms in power and barrel length. The ship's bridge is in the center and elevated well above the deck, and the gun batteries can be controlled in unison from a fire control system call the Director, which allows all of the guns to be aimed in unison at a given heading and range (elevation is calculated automatically, and elevation and heading and automatically adjusted based on a manually entered windage) and even allows the guns to be fired from the bridge. Only the rocking of the ship needs to be manually accounted for, but the Director is Complex. If the Director fails, turrets must be rotated by emergency hand cranks, which requires the work of several swarthy sailors at once. The ship's secondary armaments include six Can Shredders and twelve Can Perforators on deck, and eight Can Openers in armored side turrets. The ship is armored, depending on the exact location, equally or less than the Kraken, and includes a torpedo belt which is both armored and compartmentalized. Unlike the Kraken, magazines and other vitals are distributed through the ship. It is powered by four extra-large steam turbines and can keep pace with a Kraken. [6 Ore, 4 Oil, Complex]

Canalla had never build a gun director before. They get a functional, but complex one with a 3.

Canalla had never build a ship the size of the Khorne before, but that gives them no problems.

They also get a gun improvement, for nothing spectacular.

Well crap.

Can we get about 5 of those turns, now, to counter Cannala's 8 extra turns and massive ship development? Because this is rapidly turning into "Watch Forenia get destroyed on the open seas and make no progress. Oh, and Cannala deployed a late-war fleet carrier in one turn, so have fun dying everywhere else too!"

Let's try getting this navy thing knocked out as fast as possible.  I'm thinking...four, maybe five turns?  Once we get a working navy, we can start catching up on the apache attack helicopters cannala is putting out.

Let's try getting this navy thing knocked out as fast as possible.  I'm thinking...four, maybe five turns?  Once we get a working navy, we can start catching up on the apache attack helicopters cannala is putting out.

Eh, it might be better to go the route of 'dedicate design towards navy to catch up, dedicate revision to helping out land forces (maybe with side effects helping the navy)' if we try that.

All we need is a single ship to get them down to a Major Advantage. We have a chance so long as they don't have a Massive Advantage.

Also, could you lot cut down on the pessimism? It's not helping anyone. If you really think that the game is unfair in some way, take it up with Sensei in a polite fashion, don't complain about it here.

We don't.

Our Icegiants weren't even used for air assaults. That means that we can't hope to successfully attack any island until we drive the enemy to stalemate.

The IG needs to be cheaper and stronger. Basically, we're gonna have to purpose-build a jet-insertion aircraft, meant to fly in under escort, drop Salamanders, arty, and infantry. Also, it needs to be capable of reaching Cannala in order to supply the Juraki, I think.

Realism =/= Pessimism.

But anyway, have some optimistic realism.

Note to all our Cruiser design Teams. Include Manganese Steel for an automatic +1 to armor bonus. This should easily get us 50 mm of armor equivalent extra.

More positive realism.

We have (at present) more experience with designing large vessels than the Juraki had when designing theirs. That means we shouldn't get a penalty now.
