Why would we do that though? This isn't going to be Cheap no matter what we do, there's no way. As long as we keep it out of Very Expensive territory we should be making it as effective as we possibly can.

The Jurakis managed to get a destroyer that was 3 ore, 2 oil. We get something like that and we'll have a winner. We could invest in a bigger tonnage for a more powerful engine to make it 3 ore 3 oil.

Could we cut corners and use aluminum and mangese where possible to avoid cost overruns?

Aluminium doesn't actually lower the cost, rather it adds an ore cost which is negated by having access to a good supply.

We can, however, cut corners by using 'cheap steel' for non-essential components. It lowers the armour rating, but these things aren't going to survive a direct hit anyway.

The engines, however, we can afford to soup up, since we have 3 oil now.

Then maybe we should add another boiler, then.

What are we basing the ship design off off? The Japanese Fubuki Class?

Actually, could we cheese here and design the Archer as it appears there (with a bigger engine as Nuke says) then make a variant with a revision that thickens the armor, gets rid of the torpedoes, and double-mounts the guns to give ourselves a "light cruiser?"

The initial design was based off the British V class destroyer. Maybe we should add another boiler... which would probably also mean adding some tonnage.

By the way, as mentioned on discord: range is not that big of a problem, because Arstotzka (GLORY TO IT!) developed rocket propelled shells.

quote from 1929 revision:

Rocket-Assisted Shells: An artillery shell with rocket propellant in it! Ignites from the heat of firing. A bit inaccurate, due to being a shell and lacking more elaborate in-air stabilization than a forward center of mass, but flies around 50% further than a standard shell. Available for 50mm DT25 rounds and 80mm AS-1912 rounds.

It mentions only those 2 because they were the only large guns we had, but should work with B2 and any newer gun as well.

Assuming the votes don't change much soon, I will probably go ahead with Archer design, seeing it has 6 votes compared to only 3 for the runner up.

That is probably safe.  If I understand the thread, we want to tweak the Pattern E Archer just a bit?

To clarify: we are wanting to

1) Add another boiler
2) Station one 130mm on the stern and one on the bow
3) Load more Bumblebees and Autocannons for ainti-air capabilities

I think modifications are already done to the proposal.
I would ask clarification if rocket assisted shells will be available for the new guns.

I don't see rocket-assisted artillery in the equipment list...

It was a tech under Arstotzka in the prior game.  Boosts range by 50%.

Lets go for the archer. Although, I request a longbow to be given to the captains of each vessel.

Might as well address this.  Would we need to increase the tonnage and size for another boiler, why that particular placement for the guns (used different terms and cause me to misunderstand), and where would we put more of either Anti-air gun?
