You're absolutely wrong about increasing the portability of radios not being an advantage. Before, as in real life, the radios were too heavy for smaller groups of infantry to be able to afford to carry them around because they'd degrade their combat effectiveness too much without providing enough of a benefit. This development is what allowed for the kinds of advanced infantry tactics that we see in WW2, i.e. the beginning of the end for the doctrine of static defensive warfare which peaked in WW1 and the rise of highly mobile combined arms warfare. Troops of infantry become more flexible and coordinated, making them deadlier on the whole. Orders arrive in a more timely and efficient manner, which means that infantry can pull out if an assault they can't handle is coming in, or time an attack on a finer level that will make it more devestating.

You also greatly underestimate the power of ground-air/artillery coordination. As previously stated this also allows for the FAC role as we know it today, which means more timely, safe, and accurate CAS, and the same for artillery.

We'd be remiss to allow the enemy to gain intelligence advantages and not respond. The man-portable radio, combined with aircraft and armor, is a veritable revolution in warfare, and we gain more from it than they do because we have better aircraft!

Man, where's all this salt coming from?  Portable radios that don't require set-up to use are a solid advantage and we will benefit from having them.  At least wait for the combat phase before you declare them useless. :<

Again, I didn't say that it's not an advantage, simply that it is a marginal advantage only. Our previous radios already fitted in two backpacks, this one fits in one. And for all the infantry advantages that you mentioned, Infantry QoL would have served to improve our infantry effectiveness as well.

P.S. there's no way we can further miniaturise this without going for transistors. So we've essentially spent a revision on a small improvement to hit the cap.

But people have already clearly stated it's not just a marginal advantage!
Sometimes it feels like people look for reasons to be negative in Arms Race games.

So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

Two thirty pound boxes is not the most portable of things, and our paratroopers previously were teen bringing radios with them when they jumped, which is the primary reason I wanted to push this (and a reason why this was being planned even BEFORE last turn, Strongpoint)

FAVORITISM! BURN THE---wait a minute, he's on our side. ALL PRAISE TO THE GAMELORD!!!!

In all seriousness, I like the idea of building an air superiority fighter. We ought to have a lot of experience by now. Then, we revise an engine into the Haast. More power means the capability, I hope, to take off even from a Wasp Nest deck, massively improving naval firepower. Also, allows for better carrier-to-land strikes.

Our airforce is fine. What we need is a better navy, and better ground forces. We're never going to successfully land anywhere while the Cannalans have a reliable major naval advantage over us. We really need to get a cruiser and fix the Archer soon, and a design landing craft as well.

This isn't the 21st century, special ops don't win wars on their own. Neither do paratroopers, see Operation Market Garden.
Operation Market Garden was a failure, not because it was due to paratroopers but because of multiple reasons such as intelligence, missed opportunity's, and so on. Paratroopers are very useful, just like marines and tanks are useful, however, like marines and tanks, they are only useful when done right.

Battle Report 8: Spring 1939

New Equipment:

This turn, the Forenians decided what they needed to do was copy Cannala all over the place, so they built the UF-39-APC Salamander, a wheeled APC which is amphibious, like the Raider. It also comes armed with an autocannon like the Raider, but not some of the extra armaments. More importantly though, it's medium-armored, and thus well defended against autocannon attacks. It's also a good bit larger, despite not having much more passenger capacity than the Raider. For their revision they played catch-up to the Cannalans' new radio with the Tiger's Roar, a radio portable by a single infantryman. They were close to accomplishing this than the Cannalans, since their old radio wasn't [Complex], but still didn't get any form of encrypted voice to work. It's FM however, which currently means the Cannalans have no equipment to listen to it in any case.

Cannala also decided they needed to copy the Forenians, so their design this turn is the Santos-Class Naval Aircraft Support Vessel, a bigger and better aircraft carrier than the Wasp Nest. It holds a couple dozen aircraft and has on-board radar, plus some AA guns on deck. While its aircraft capacity is a lot greater, it's also Expensive, so it's roughly a wash. Their revision was spent fixing it, the original had a wonky deck configuration as well as faulty arrester cables and a faulty catapult.

The Forenian Army currently has the following equipment:

The War This Turn:
Cannala is spending an expense credit on the Marauder, and trying to push the Forenians out of the jungle while taking a beach on the mountain island in the south. Forenia is attacking in the Jungle as usual, and completing their annexation of the NE desert island, which they are naming Matriq.

Espionage!
Someone suspicious ducks into an alley, before you can see their face.

The Battle at Sea
The weather is clearer, now that spring has come.

The new Santos carriers are a shock the Forenians. Now, every Cannalan fleet is defended with a reasonably sized air response, and has aircraft performing patrols. The Santos comes by default with an Eagle Eye Radar, so it usually also fills the role of intelligence craft for a fleet- staying back, observing the entire battle space with both radar and patrol aircraft, and commanding the actual battleships while making sure they have air cover is an effective strategy. General Cortez himself commands a Santos-class carrier, although he says he loathes to be on a ship that doesn't have the biggest guns in the fleet.

Falcon fighters now engage Stingers in almost equal number, while A-2 Sparks carry torpedoes (one at a time). As it has been remarked before, the Falcon is a better aircraft than the Stinger by a small margin. This margin has grown smaller since Forenia has implemented proper oxygen regulators into their aircraft, but the point still stands that it's a bit faster. Without their decisive advantage of being the only side to field aircraft carriers, the Forenian air advantage over sea battles is terribly disrupted- they still mount more air attacks than Cannala does, and come a little better out of air-to-air combat, but the total dominance they had before is gone, and with their ships so vulnerable it's a decisive blow. If they can't harass a Khorne by setting its crew on fire with incendiary bombs and destroying its turrets, they can't stop a Khorne from destroying two Archer destroyers in a single volley. It's that bad.

It should be noted that the Cannalan aircraft aren't great at destroying ships, since the Shark torpedoes aren't very effective against torpedo belts, but all they really need to do is keep Forenian aircraft at bay anyway.

Cannala has a Major Naval Advantage this season.

The Battle for the Jungle:
Attacking: Both
It's totally the wet season and I didn't write dry season the first time by accident.

Forenia has regained a decisive infantry advantage, now that their radios are once again on-par with the Cannalan ones. Paratroopers also use the new radios, squads are assigned a radio operator who is armed with a Cascade SMG, and the smaller magazines that don't look like something rude.

Armored warfare has changed a lot as Forenia's new Salamander APCs hit the field. This gives Forenian infantry some of the same valuable mobility afforded to the Cannalans by their Raider, but its expense means many of their forces still move where they're needed by truck, and Salamanders are sent where they're most necessary only. The Salamander has superior armor the the Raider, and can reliably defeat it in combat, but it's not invulnerable. The Cannalans also used their expense credit to make the Maruauder cheap this turn, which means that they usually have a 4 inch Daybreaker cannon where they need it, when they need it. Normally a Salamander is still a better pick for a fight against a Marauder- the Salamander's light weight turret rotates faster, and its AC-18 autocannon fires faster, so a Marauder has to both get the first shot and absolutely not miss. However in this case, Marauders outnumber Salamander APCs and AS-T33 tanks, so Cannala still has an advantage in armored combat. However, the advantage of being able to move troops by water is no longer so unique to Cannala.

Last season, the Forenian air advantage wasn't enough to make up for the Cannalan armored advantage. Now with Forenian infantry back on top, and Cannalan armor at less of a decisive advantage, and the jungle canopy more easily burning under the many incendiary bombs dropped by Forenian aircaft, it is.

Forenia gains ground. [Forenia 2/4, Cannala 2/4]

The Battle for the Mountain:
Attacking: Cannala

Cannala this time covers their beach assault with aircraft launched from Santos carriers. The now-inexpensive marauders help to remove Forenian armored resistance- they outnumber Forenia both as a result of their base lower expense and the Cannalan naval advantage. Forenian infantry put up a huge fight. Forenian sniper Matsui Sadayoshi confirms 30 kills in just two days, plus more from traps and landmines, before being wounded in a naval artillery strike and removed from battle; he is the first Juraki refugee to attain a measure of fame in Forenia. However, it's not quite enough to overcome the overwhelm numbers of Cannalans on the attack here.

Cannala makes a push. [Cannala 1/2, Forenia 1/2]

The North East Desert:
Attacking-ish: Forenia

Forenians have dubbed this island Mutriq, and the few remaining residents have either been accepted as Forenians or given transport to Columbia. Forenians have begun to colonize Mutriq and make settlements large enough to support oil drilling, mostly relying on imported food from the mainland after a failed attempt to subsist off of underground mushroom farms. [Forenia 2/2]

Events outside the War:

The Outside World:

Poland's territory has been divvied up by Germany and the Soviet Union. The war in Europe continues, seeing the British battleship Royal Oak sunk by a German U-boat. The United States begins supplying arms to Britain and France. Nazis storm the University of Prague and send over a thousand protestors there to concentration camps, and shut down all Czech universities. The Winter War begins between Russia and Finland. British ships and aircraft fight the Germans in various encounters, mostly in the Germans' favor.

Alliances:
Both the Axis and Allies are interested in receiving a weapon to deploy next turn. In return they each offer one credit of your choice- that is a Research Credit, Espionage Credit, or Expense Credit.

Local Events:
In Forenia, a few people attempted runs for Parliament as members of the "Peace with Cannala" party. These people have been detained by Forenian Secret Police, and their contacts and anyone who may have voted in their favor is currently being investigated.

In Cannala, rum exports are struggling to meet demand as access to the American market increases. American media is becoming more and more common, but El Presidente cautions Cannalans to remember Cannalan values in the face of foreign influence.

We need to up gun and armor the archer, and then revise one of our planes into a fighter that is superior to the enemy planes.

I suspect that now we will get > let's go for a carrier fighter bandwagon.... The funny thing that I don't think that it is a good long term strategy now. Our new focus should be taking the jungle and going for something on that front.

I would very much prefer losing a point of jungle but not losing point of mountains and be in position to start attacking Tundra but... It is too late.

Agreed, worrying about the carrier fighter isn't going to be a worry. We either need to press in on the land advantage and take the rest of the jungle or get an actually decent ship.
