Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Head back to the town and ask where I can buy a gold ring

The closest place is probably Lunare, down the river, according to everyone you ask. Of course they're talking about a new gold ring; there are other places and other ways to acquire such a thing...

Push the first pirate into the flux, then direct my attention to the second pirate.
Spoiler: Robert Grant (click to show/hide)
[3,6 v 6,6]
[3v5]
You attempt to give the first pirate a good kick to the chest and shove them off the boat. The pirate apparently sees it coming though and side steps the attack before striking back and carving a deep gash into your side. You stagger but manage to get  your ax up and deflect the blow of the other pirate.
[5]
Something explodes on the pirate's ship and it lists hard to one side, the gunfire from the deck ceasing.

Go tap him with the orb to hopefully take away the effect, else just shake dat boi awake.

Should our favorite barbarbar start advancing or something, retreat around the next corner.

Spoiler: Darwin Zeppeli (click to show/hide)
Just to make sure:

The plan is to charge down the hall that is still smoldering, at the guy holding the flamethrower, so you can bonk him on the head and hopefully fix him?

What kind of stuff are the scavengers typically returning with? Meanwhile, hunt around town for fuzzy creatures. Also, while out of sight of the people of the town, tinker with my magic shiny ball. also, may as well get a scavenger's license.

Spoiler: Felix Testimony (click to show/hide)
The most common stuff is generally low value relics and artifacts like pottery or small statues or sometimes tools or low value coins. The bigger and more expensive stuff is larger art, gold coins, magical items, tablets with magical words, jewels, etc.  There are many fuzzy creatures around town. Depends what you're looking for. You want a rat? Cat? Dog? Mouse? Particularly large spider? You get the license.

Tinker how? Its a glowing orb; there's no immediately obvious thing to do with it.

Ask them what they think, about going down there and the logistics of recovering the captives.

Also ask if Benedict can make it down there as-is.

Rest.  Spend the next day observing the buildup of mercenaries and militia, and find out if there are issues with them, such as insufficient equipment, not enough bounty money, or whatever other concerns they may have.  Try to raise some mana by demonstrating the new machine gun, or if Benedict can come down, by showing him off to a crowd, letting everyone know that he'll be helping fight.

Spoiler: Saeko Hirahara (click to show/hide)
They tell you that their current plan is this: one team will move in and try to rescue as many of the captives as possible, meanwhile the other team will prep to flood the cavern. The rescue team will enter through the old mines and then once the signal is given the other team will flood it. They say this is to prevent combat with the wizard holding power down there. According to them, going toe to toe with an old mage is something to be avoided at all costs unless there is no other choice.

You think Benedict MIGHT be able to make it, but some of those mine shafts are gonna be a very tight squeeze as he is now.

[1v3]
Everything looks to be fine, least by your estimation. Nothing stands out as  needing any real help.

[8+1v5]
Through a combination of Benedict tricks and some displays of gunning straight through a tree (and the wall behind it) with the freshly retro fitted guns, followed by a conga line of hugs, you manage to gather 41 mana.

I would also like to go through the testing.

Spoiler: Randolf Osborn (click to show/hide)
I would enjoy playing out the testing.
After agreeing to be tested both of you are taken off to different interrogation rooms.

Randy is asked if he has ever seen Nina do anything that would indicate that she is being manipulated by her spirit. This includes acting in ways that seem nonsensical, acting for the good of the spirit or other spirits at the cost of her own safety or the safety of other humans, and having knowledge of things she should not know.  They emphasize to Randy that those in possession of spirits often act at their behest, gathering items or performing actions for no apparent reason. This sort of behavior can be dangerous to a peace keeping unit because it throws an unknown drive into the mix.

Nina on the other hand, well be asked details about her life. Where she was born, what she studied or where she was schooled, what she does now, her family, friends, etc. They will not tell her why they want to know this and will only say that it is important.

"Well, um, I was raised in a lower-middle class family as the youngest of three, and we couldn't afford proper schooling. But I learned most things from Aunt Shilo. She wasn't my related by blood I don't think, but she'd always act like I was her grandchild anyway. She was an herbalist, and taught me all about how the human body works, and how to fix it when its acting up and all. I heard in a letter that she fell and died about two years ago, Im not sure how old she was but she was really ancient so it wasn't super suprising, though it still sucked. Um, I didnt have a lot of friends growing up, mostly just Adam. I didn't know to hide Adam back then and it creeped people out when I talked to him, and especially when he told me stuff I wouldn't normally know. It... got me kinda known as the creepy kid. So when I came of age I moved away to try to get a fresh start. I didn't manage my money very well though and kinda... ended up on the streets for a while. I eventually saved up enough to set myself up with a little shack though! Um... Nowadays I know a few people in the guard, they let me drain mana from criminals they caught that they're worried might use magic sometimes. And I've got a number of regular people I look after, and am known as a doctor people can go to if they can't afford the clinic! Um..."

"The mage is already in combat with everyone up here.  Every full moon a dozen or so prisoners are taken via long-range magic.  I can see how going toe-to-toe is a bad idea, but filling the cavern with water is very survivable, and rescuing the prisoners without defeating the mage will simply result in them getting retaken again over the next year or so.  Unless the mage decides to attack the whole town or something.

We should deal with the mage permanently.  After all, we should know the mage's location.  Or is the spyglass not strong enough for that?

Spoiler: suggested methods (click to show/hide)

Anyway, regardless of what they decide and what I can convince them to do..

First priority is the evacuation of the civilians.  Make sure we have the tools and supplies necessary to make the passageway easier to traverse.  Give up to 15 gold on pay or supplies for the process.

Buff myself with a permanent d8 Strengthen spell on my ability to hear, similar to the one cast during the last full moon, to help check for hostiles or danger while inside the mine.  Don't retry if I fail.

Then go work for the rest of the day, trying to improve and clear the route.  Me and my griffon.  If necessary, cast a reverse-grow reverse-expand spell to shrink him and his harness slightly so he can fit through the tight spots.

In regards to a fuzzy animal, I'll look for a kitten. if that doesn't appeal to Little Miss, I'll just go throug hthe rest of the animals until something catches her eye. If we need to work to buy the thing, I'll set up a ghost consultation booth (by sitting in a marketplace with my glowy ball) and tell people's fortunes.
As for tinkering with the ball. I'll press it to my forehead and think thoughts at it. Does it itneract with muh ghosts? Or muh mana? can I push a mana into it, without using Material?

The interrogator nods and then asks you where adam came from and if he ever asks you to do things or advises you on what to do.

They ask how long you have known her, if you have noticed any changes in her personality over time, any outbursts or odd shifts of behavior in stressful situations.

"Your ship just blew up, surrender and you may just survive."

Give the pirates a chance to surrender, axe them some questions if they refuse.
Spoiler: Robert Grant (click to show/hide)
The pirates apparently see the destruction of their ship as a reason to keep fighting if anything; they've got nowhere to go back to.
[5v2][6v2][6,2]
You get your footing back and rush forward, overbearing the first and knocking him to the ground before ducking the second's attack and burying your ax in his face.
[6v2] Someone across the deck fires at you but misses by several feet.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Head down to Lunare, unless I happen to find a gold ring on the way there.
You follow the river down to the lake several miles away. You can see the town from across the lake and there seems to be a lot of commotion around it. As you get closer you see a parked airship, a giant griffin, and what looks like a small army of armed men and women slowly gathering.

In regards to a fuzzy animal, I'll look for a kitten. if that doesn't appeal to Little Miss, I'll just go throug hthe rest of the animals until something catches her eye. Spoiler: Felix Testimony (click to show/hide)
[3v6]
You look around for fuzzy animals for the Little Miss but amid all the busy streets and such you can't find anything. Maybe night would be a better time to check? Cats are nocturnal after all. I'm assuming of course you're not looking for a pet store...

You press the ball to your forehead and your hair stands on end, but thats really it. You wave it around near your spirits and it seems to be able to touch them, even though they should be incorporeal. Finally you dump 1 mana into the thing and it sucks it up happily. The color of the orb changes to a sort of light blue.

Spoiler: Saeko Hirahara (click to show/hide)
The mage breakers inform you that, judging from the way that the tunnel down is set up and the spaces in question, the force of the incoming water would be akin to a pillar of solid stone and would probably collapse the entire cave.

1. You know the civilians are mind controlled and that there are a fair number of them. What is the plan for how to handle them? Just hog tie them and carry them out? How you handle them will determine the supplies used.

2. [2+1 v 2] -2 mana. Your hearing has gone up to d8 permanently. Your ears have gotten a bit bigger and gone rather elfish in appearance.

3. So you want to fly over to the mine and dig down, clearing the route as best you can? I ask because there is the chance that you might alert any guards or patrols of bugmen that are posted in there, if there are any.

"Ah, that sounds much better, then."

Describe the person who was made permanently asleep via what is extremely likely the same kind of mind control.  Do the magebreakers have a member who could break that method of mind control easily?

Spoiler: DA PLAN (click to show/hide)
Since I chose to not intervene days ago when hearing about intruders below ground, it wouldn't be appropriate to rescue them after having found some guns, gathered a large chunk of mana, and made various other preperations that took much time.  I'll handle the other things first.

Lets see about giving people protection from mind control.  What I know is that it weakens the barriers of the mind, and resembles falling asleep.

So.. find a chemist, an apothecary, or someone like that in town.  See what the guy would recommend for pills to keep someone awake and improve sharpness of mind.  Maybe something like caffeine?  Then get enough supplies together to make a pill for every person in the small army.

Put some magic in the pill ingredients.  Use a temporary d10 Strengthen spell to improve the Willpower of the person who takes the pills for six hours after taking them.  If this fails, use a d8 spell instead.  Retry after that at d8

After that, assuming I have at least 25 mana remaining, use a temporary d8 spell to strengthen the alertness and awakeness effect of the pills for the next six hours in a similar manner.  Retry in a similar manner, assuming at least 25 mana.

Test by taking one, to know if I need to put more power.

"I... don't really know where Adam came from. He's been with me for as long as I can remember. I grew up with him. He does occasionally ask me to do things or give advice, but, um, it's rather cryptic when he does. If there's a pattern, it's that he tends to ask me to go places where people are in trouble, and to help them if I can. He also warns me of danger sometimes, generally of dangers that aren't what they appear to be. Mostly he just responds to when I ask him stuff. Um, if you want, I could ask him questions and relay what his response is."
Answer, also what is Adam's response to the questioning? is he hiding again?
