As Part of the Continuing day of the purge....nah this one is remaining open for now. Cabal has run a long time and has a dedicated player base so I won't be taking you out behind the shed for now.

However, There is something I would like to ask:

Right now things are pretty loosey goosey; everyone just does as they like and there is no real overarching anything. Its a pretty far cry from what this thing started as but I'm glad people are enjoying it for what it is. However, earlier designs for this involved the eventual introduction of world changing events as the progression into the age of the mundane continued. Would you like for me to start with those events now to throw some chaos into the world or do you want things to remain as they are?

I'd like to at least explore one more place after dealing with this town thing, before things start changing.  It'll also mean I'll never have to try and defeat Telcal.

I think maybe things should stay as they are, at least a while longer.  Now that I have transportation, I'd like to explore a remote or hidden location.  Having it turned mundane before I get the chance to see it would be pretty bad.  I would also like to improve the condition of that town in some semi-permanent manner first.

Don't care one way or the other. I only joined this game to piss around after Chalice died.

I agree with Dev that it would be nice to have a few moments of peace to do whatever, before the chaos starts. I would like to be able to return to Alkahest and have the chance to become a Magebreaker before the events start.

Immortality like that would be even more game breaking than four Aaron's in one place.
You're both so obviously scum that this is a surprisingly difficult decision.

"Well yeah, I got hired to do some painting for a spooky lady, she wanted me to paint some poor noble guy named Lord Smithe who they had tied up. I didn't really like that so I killed the lady and tried to free the noble dude. Then some ninjas attacked me and I got kidnapped to some creepy entertainment mansion so I escaped and killed a bunch of Ghouls. Uh."

Zavirius glances sideways at the tiny puny girl waiting beside her.

"Well, I guess it's not really very urgent, I kinda took care of it. Thought it was a nice story though. Say, either of you hiring?"

"Uhh.. Maybe?"  "I need some magebreakers for an attack on an underground lair.  I can only take a few people, though, we're travelling via giant griffen."

"What do you do?"

"I can leech mana from people and make explosions. I'm pretty strong, too. And I guess that I can make things lighter, but that doesn't seem super useful."

"Lighter sounds like really useful.  Explosions..

We're doing it to rescue a whole bunch of mind-controlled or kidnapped people.  You okay with being careful?  Blowing up a few bugmen is ok, but you okay with not hitting any innocents?"

"What do you want for pay?  I can make things or people bigger, faster, or stronger, and heal serious wounds.  Can also create some steel."  Saeko nods at Zavi's rather limited protection.

"Maybe do some fancy magic item stuff, too.  Probably the best thing to get, that."

"Can pay a little money, but I'd rather bring back a few extra weapons with it."

"Sure, if there's risk of collateral I can just use a blade.

As much as I'd love to get stronger, faster, better, it's not like I'm going to trust you to mess with me just yet. You'd better offer some money."

"Dunno about money.  Heard the magebreakers work for free.  I'll give you 15 gold up front.  I'll also drop you off wherever you like when we're finished."

"As for messing with things, I'm wearing magic armour right now, and I have a bird the size of an elephant, so while magic is always chancy, going for spells might be worth your while."

"Yeah.  I'm on a bit of a time limit, don't want to spend more than a couple days here.  Probably going to hit a bar after this, though, just to try and scrape up a bit more mana.  I need to get a few spells ready so the fighters don't die like flies."

First I’d like to thank you for not dropping this game quite yet, pw. It’s still my favorite game out of those I’m still playing, so I am very glad it survived the Great Purge of May.

As per your question, I’d say go ahead if you feel like it. While I think this world still has enough adventures to offer without having to shake up the status quo, I personally wouldn’t mind some events getting put into motion already (provided it doesn’t mean an invisible “asplode the world in T-minus 10 turns” gets set off, of course). If the magic of this world is dying I‘d like to witness its death throes before the game goes down!

(Alright, looks like we'll hold off on changes for a while. For those of you worried, I wouldn't worry too much. The changes are more thematic and lore based than major mechanical or world changes. An asteroid ain't gonna crash into the earth or nothing.)

Show up and report in.
Spoiler: Robert Grant (click to show/hide)

You show up for guard duty and the immediately ask if you're more melee or ranged based. Apparently they need a shooter riding up with the lead wagon driver and no one fits that description yet.  You say that you have a crossbow and reasonable skill with it, though you're more melee based. They ask if you'd be ok doing ranged anyways.

It's been a couple years. Hope my sudden showing back up and suddenly joining a game again after so many months is OK. I didn't see whether this was a waitlist game or everyone in at once, so I'm just gonna leave this here.

New character

Spoiler: Ron (click to show/hide)

edit:
Should pick a location to join on the map.
Balneum Mariae, I guess.
Balneum Mariae is a town next to the only oasis in the Fulminating sands. Its also where Robert Grant (guy above you) is right now. Its basically a haven for everyone making trips into the desert and the mid point between the Flux lakes and the areas outside the Sands. Most of what you'll find here is traders and people servicing the traders, and occasionally rich people here living on the water's edge and enjoying the life of opulent wealth away from the capital. Considering your character, we can assume you are plying your trade on one of the main roads, juggling and having the bear dance.

Today you've made 8 silver coins.

To Pinguious!

Also, my character sheet says I have 5 mana, but I seem to recall having spent all my mana - I think back when I was diving for the ghost guy and trying to clean off the flux afterward. I don't recall any other point at which I could have gained mana since then, so I'm assuming I now have 10 mana total. I think I copied a previous character sheet at some point and ghosted in some extra mana from the past.

I went back and discovered that the rolling horse toy granted 5 mana after htat event so I added that back in.

Spoiler: Felix Testimony (click to show/hide)

You paddle towards Pinguious and have it in your sights when you suddenly hit something. You fall face first and then carefully pull yourself off the boat bottom, rubbing your nose. The boat seems undamaged but you definitely hit something pretty hard. You look around and don't see anything, whatever it was must have been just under the surface. There's no movement of the flux so its probably not a Tar Serpent or anything deadly. Probably.

"The town of Lunare, on Lake Candentis is being terrorized by a mage.  The monthly kidnappings that occur in the town are conducted by at least one mage residing inside a great underground cavern beneath the city and lake, reachable via mine-shaft.  The town leaders are hiring mercenaries and organizing a militia to attack the mage and end the kidnappers.

I have transportation for a few magebreakers, to deliver them swiftly to the city to support the attack, which will occur some time before the next full moon."

Describe the emergency.  Any response from the construct?

Secondly, use a Strengthen Steel spell to convert my magically improved cloth outfit to one that consists of magically improved steel cloth.  Try to keep the colours, and if I crit-succeed, make it become extra sparkly instead of not-sparkly.

Spoiler:  Saeko Hirahara (click to show/hide)
You wait your turn and as soon as you start talking the construct thrusts a bit of paperwork into your hands and tells you to fill it out. You grumble and set it to the side for a moment to try a spell.

[5+1 v 4] -4 mana

The clothing is effectively raised to the next level of protection, though it does become heavier and the colors fade somewhat; as though they've been sitting in the sun too long.

That done you sit down and fill out the paperwork before handing it back in. The Automaton tells you someone will be with you shortly.

Keep the pressure. The less time it has to recover, the better. I have to keep it busy, so it doesn't attack the Magebreaker or Nina.

Spoiler: Randolf Osborn (click to show/hide)
[1v5][4v6]
You charge in and swing a heavy overhead blow at the thing's shoulder but the beast spins, slipping your blow and using the momentum to drive a fist into your side. Your shield is knocked from your grip and goes skating away an a spray of sparks.
[5v5]
The creature follows up with a thrust and Randy smacks it away at the last second, staying close despite the attacks.
