You both swim up on shore and join the throngs of confused people milling around on the beach. A few ask if you know whats going on, probably because you came out of the lake hold a clearly magical sword.

"Lady? You better believe I can paint 'em realistic! Deep in the ruins 'neath this land folks unearth rare machines that can paint a picture right from the world, perfectly. Bam! Just like that. But I say I could put those machines to shame! Just show me what I need to paint, and I'll get it down for you."

Hah, spooky magic things aren't gonna stop me. That just means she can afford to pay me better. And if she's not planning on paying, I can just suck the stuff out~

(Taking payment with sucking as opposed to making payments with sucking? What a novel concept. )

She quickly agrees to hire you and leads you out of the market and somewhere into the craftman's quarter. As you leave the main streets and start going through winding back alleys and unfathomable twisting paths, you notice you're being tailed. There are at least three of them, moving behind or parallel to you on other side streets, only seen momentarily in gaps between buildings. You nudge your patron and whisper to her about your pursuers. She laughs a little and tells you not to worry. She says she knows they're there.  Finally you arrive at a fairly large two story building; the bottom story looks like a small warehouse of sorts with a big pair of double doors in front and rough stone and mortar walls. Atop it, accessed by a outdoor staircase that winds up around one side wall and onto the back, is a more traditional white plaster and wood structure with a sharp angled triangular roof and a large triangular window facing north.

The woman unlocks a huge iron padlock on the warehouse doors and opens one of them just wide enough for you to squeeze in. You follow her into the room and she shuts the door behind you. It takes a minute for your eyes to adjust to the dim light in the room; the only illumination available are a set of very wide and very short rectangular windows set into the back wall of the room, all scrunched up near the roof.  There are some boxes in here, a few chairs, a table covered in brushes and other painting tools, along with dozens upon dozens of jars of pigments and large supplies of the oils and other ingredients you'd need to mix with the pigments to make paint. There's huge easel  and an equally large white canvas already stretched and ready to be used.  And behind that is a gagged man tied to a chair. He looks unconscious and his face is covered in dried blood and fresh welts.

"I want you to paint him- without the injuries- fully life sized and as realistic as possible on that canvas. There's housing on the top floor and food will be delivered daily.  Do a good job and you'll we well rewarded.  You have ten days. Oh and don't let him escape. The house is being watched so it will just be a waste of everyone's time."

With that she tosses you the key she used to open the door and then walks out of the room, closing the door again when she leaves. 

How much to reinforce Ecalir's armor (assuming we repair it first) from d6 to d8?

For how long? Just until all this stuff gets made?  If so, yeah fine.

Sharpen could be used on either but it will have more effect on larger projectiles. Bullets are all about high penetration already so making the penetrate more wouldn't really do more damage in MOST circumstances, though it would make them penetrate armor more readily which has uses.

eh...you'd probably just be better off buying a new set since you'd effectively be making so many large scale modifications it would probably not save you anything to just get a new set of plate.

Let's tie everyone together, to the cart, as whatever it was didn't take the cart in the last instance.  After that, hold my breath and get ready with an expand spell in case this fog starts knocking people out.  (The expand spell is to be used on air in lungs so she can just breathe out without getting gassed.)

You get out your rope and use it to tie yourself to your two guards before tying yourself to the nearest wagon and then tossing the remaining 80 ft or so out to the nearest other person and telling them to get the rest of the group tied off. They say they will and walk out into the fog. You can't see if they do tie everyone off but you feel the rope move around, jerking to and fro in the blind fog.

For a good 10 minutes or so nothing happens. The fog doesn't knock anyone out, it doesn't mess with your perception of reality or do anything particularly odd. But after those few minutes you become aware of something. There's a dull buzzing noise in the air, a drone that is just barely audible but palpable in the air. You turn your head and try to find the source of the noise but it seems to be coming from everywhere. And then you hear other things. Things moving across the dirt; some of them far away, some close. They don't sound human, judging by what you can hear of their movements.

First day should be spent mostly planning and examining the space. And keeping my eyes open. They're obviously doing something horrible to this dude, so it's not too late for them to do something horrible to me, too.
May as well talk to the dude as well, if he wakes up. Maybe feel if he has any loose change mana laying around his soul...

If things go smoothly the first day, start with the painting for the rest of the time.

-How much for d8 armor? Again, if cheaper at the arena, be sure to tell me.
-How much could we sell Ecalir's damaged d6 armor for? And how much if we repaired it ourselves first?

-Try to guess how much gold the crystal skull (worth 30 mana) and the platinum ingot (40 mana) could be sold for if we found a suitable buyer (not necessarily in this town).

-Is 1 mana worth 1 thaum, or is it multiple 'units' of thaum for 1 mana? Asking with regards to the thaumic flamethrower.

-For the leveling of stats, going from +0 to +1 is 10 mana. So is going from +1 to +2 then 30 mana, and from +2 to +3 50 more mana? Or is going from +1 to +2 only 20 mana? This is what the rules currently say:

Try to get everyone closer together, for mutual support.  If the sight range is too small for that, that is, only a couple of feet, leave room to swing without hitting each other.  If we can't see even ten feet, tell someone with a torch to put it down and enlarge it into a small bonfire, which might attract attention and help us out.  Do put the bonfire on the outside of the circle, though.  When we're in position, we should stop shuffling around, they might be sensing footsteps.

The space is fairly standard. Aside from the area you've already seen there is the house above. Its nice enough, a big single room with a bed, shelf of books, chair and table (With plate, knife and fork on it already, some candles, and a large window on one wall. Its all comfortable enough, as prisons go. You look out the window a while and catch sight of your mysterious watchers every so often, mostly on rooftops of nearby buildings. After exploring a bit you walk downstairs, close the doors, and ungag the man. He's slow to rouse and very groggy: maybe drugged, maybe concussed, hard to say. He says that he is Lord Smithe, member of the Noblery and lead of a prestigious household. He tells you that he was supposed to be called away on business for two weeks but was ambushed early on and taken here. He says they interrogated him almost entirely about mundane aspects of his life; far more than any sort of meaningful or secret information.  He, unsurprisingly, asks you to let him go and promises you great rewards if you can get him to safety.

Around 60 gold, maybe +/- 10 depending on where you get it.
So a generic suit of plate probably around 80, fitted would add 20 or so but would be much harder for someone to remove as a combat action.
To a smith, probably around 15-20.  Repaired might add 5.
Crystal skull....between 50 and 250; Platinum is going to be fairly steady 200 gold, maybe a bit more or less.
1 to 1 ratio
Raising to +1 costs 10
Raising to +2 costs 30
Raising to +3 costs 50

Effectively the cost is the cost of the previous level +20. The rule is giving you costs per upgrade, not costs cumulative. So getting to +3 from 0 would cost 90 all together.

You pull on the rope, trying to drag the rest of the party in to circle the wagons, in a figurative sense. Two or three people come in, along with about 30 feet of rope and then a roughly cut end. 50 feet of rope missing, along with a large chunk of the population of the wagon. Not good.

You can see maybe 15 feet, but it gets blurry and shadowed after about 5. Things are moving out there; you can see them now, shadows racing around the wagon in a circle, like men on horseback hemming in cattle. You can't see what they are exactly, but they're not anything you're familiar with...like giant, frogs hop running at high speed with something on their backs. You catch the sound of what might be language, lilting hoots and cries like birdsong and monkey calls. They're coming closer.

Buy:
-d8 gun (65 gold ok?)
-fitted suit of d8 armor (fitted for Ecalir, 100 gold)
-Try to repair Ecalir's old armor, then sell it. If repairs fail sell it anyway and eat the small loss.
-Donkey to help carry our shit (30 gold)

-What difficulty rating would 'multiplying' the crystal skull get (assume we're trying to copy it once)? What about the platinum ingot?
-And for the ingot, if we cut off a smaller piece of platinum and tried to multiply that, would it be easier?

Then, unless something comes up in this town, teleport us (and the donkey!) to Thion Hudor. As before, drop in a ways away from the city and try to pick a spot that seems safe. Go check out the arena. what things do they have on offer?

Well, lets see if they're scared of fire.  Throw a torch on the ground and enlarge it into a good-sized bonfire.  That might show us these raiders, so we can defend ourselves.  Tell the others to attack if they see anyone.
