((Ok, this is to confusing. Want to retcon that and try again? I thought mentioning the church would end the argument despite not really knowing enough of it IC but then you asked for a contract and then everything went to hell.))

((I would rather retcon the whole thing and remove everything out of existence.))

((Nina had to deal with a gang of muggers that claimed to be from the church lately. She didn't buy their story either, and when she talked to the church about it they said they were not affiliated. Claiming to be from the church - with no evidence - buys NOTHING from her.))

((and sure, if you never forced your way in she'd actually be a TON less hostile. forcing your way inside set her on edge.))

I open the door.
"Can I help you?"

Spoiler: Nina (click to show/hide)
"Some guys hired me to check if you are an evil wizard doing evil wizard stuff. They said something about an agreement and that I should check if you are doing anything suspicious. I'm here to make sure you don't make anything bad becaue they think you might be planning to betray them or something. Wait, I don't think they mentioned what the agreement was. I guess I'll just be staying here for some time to make sure you don't try anything funny, and if I see you doing anything evil or suspicious I'll probably try to kill you. Are you actually a wizard?"
Spoiler: Randolf Osborn (click to show/hide)
"You... what?"
is confused by the fast-talking man.
"Are. You. Evil?"
Spoiler: Randolf Osborn (click to show/hide)
"No?"
"I'll be staying here and watch you closely to make sure you don't try anything because the people here doesn't trust you. Understand? Next question.
Are. You. Wizard?"

Spoiler: Randolf Osborn (click to show/hide)
((This is where Nina's actions would have changed. notice that I deleted your bolded actions, them being there are a problem.))

"No."
I remain in the doorway, my hand still on the doorknob.

((She actually does suspect it IC, but with the story she's running with the church she has to act like she buys it. That also makes things easier for her decision though. Either you're from the church and she has to act that way or lose consistency in her story, or you really are a thief and she acting appropriately. She doesn't actually have to evaluate if he's a thief or not, just if she needs to act as though he is one, which no matter the case, is yes.))

"Okay. They still pay me extra if there is no violence. I'll just say you promised to not do anything bad and leave. If you could apologize to them and promise to not do anything bad to verify my story I would be glad. People here is just extremely paranoid and think that everyone wants to backstab them."
Go back with the old woman and ask if I can rent a room here.

((I actually would like a teamup but the problem is Nina has NO reason to trust you, and every reason not to. You don't need to abandon your goals by any means, and by the way I think your build is more combat-capable than hers, 1v1 you'll probably win if they fight. Right now she doesn't know what you're trying to acomplish by showing up at her door in the middle of the night. We've retconned out the thing that set her off the most, when you forced your way inside, if you ask to look around she'll actually probably let you do so. She doesn't actually have anything to hide.))

((I thought that you opening the door was you letting him in but then you trying to get him out of the room would mean that you are trying to hide something and your lie of not having magic could also cause trouble. I'm just going to leave and hope we meet on better terms or something. I also thought that telling the full truth could have helped with any trust problems, if I had hid the fact that the church hired me to make sure you weren't planning to go against them, huge problems would have happened in the future. It's all a mix of screw ups and misinterpretation that it would be better to forget that the whole thing ever happened. Also english not being my native language might also be a problem as I couldn't find a way to explain the job without sounding like I had to stalk you or stay with you.

Again, let's forget this ever happened.))

((Letting someone in usually involves an invitation to enter, opening a door is... well, opening a door. And the reason you're having trouble finding a non-stalky way to describe what you're trying to accomplish is because you kinda were hired to stalk her. :P I mean, she won't stop you from leaving by any means but if you want to have a polite conversation with her it's no problem. It really was the whole shove your way in make tons of demands and get all in her face attitude that set her off, ya know? Makes people mad when you do that. since that never actually happened, she's not mad, just confused.))

"Please wait sir. If you were hired to look into what I'm doing, You'd best do the job right so they don't lash out at you for it. Let me show you around, and answer any questions you may have of me, and we can both be on our way."

"Sure. I'm Randolf and I do various jobs like bounty hunting and hunting criminals. You want me to ask you questions? Then what do you actually do here? Do you know anything about an agreement with the church? What do you know about the church?
I came to this town recently and all I know is that they were expecting betrayal from you, but you don't seem to be the kind of person who would betray someone. I'm going to tell the truth and say I don't know anything about the church at all and right now I feel they tried to trick me into beliving you were an evil criminal. I apologize."

"I'm a healer. I came here because I'd heard some odd rumors about what was below the lake and wanted to learn for myself. When I asked around I was directed to the church. They told me I could go with their next pilgrimage group to see what's down there for myself. That's... pretty much it."

"Hmm... I have a feeling that these church people aren't as trustworthy as I thought. Since you are just a healer my job is done, but if you find out anything else about these church guys or you need help in anything else then please tell me. You are going to the bottom of the lake? If you want, I could go with you and make sure the church isn't planning anything weird with sending people to the bottom. I'm also curious about what is the deal with this lake."

You can, for the cost of 1 silver for 3 nights. 1 gold is 5 silver, by the way.

I open the door.
"Can I help you?"

Spoiler: Nina (click to show/hide)
This seems a bit silly to process this action after all that has happened between ya two but I'll throw it out there and say that yes, you opened the door.

Clean the place up and put out a sign and such to keep the place busy until someone comes by.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Well, in game its like midnight at this point. Admittedly you might get more clients at this hour, but its something to remember. What does the sign say, before I roll to see if anyone is injured in this lawless town of sin.

Quote
You guys follow the path along the water's edge until it ends in a large open room. You can't tell how large it is, but your torches can't reach any walls and the echo of your feet reverberate dozens of times. The chamber must be massive and the river cuts straight across it, as far as you can tell from the sound.

"We should be careful not to get lost in here" Rufus says, "Cave darkness can easily disorient"

"As before, you speak with wisdom. Perhaps we should put up a lamp here so we'll have a central orientation point?

Ecalir, would you be willing to share some of that mana you generated when you slew that beast?"

Hang up a lamp near the room's entrance, unless Rufus advises against it. Then continue on carefully, checking for hidden predators or dangers as before.

Ponder if there's a way for us to recognize when we'll have reached the location where the stone tablets we're chasing should reside.

Spoiler: Darwin Zeppeli (click to show/hide)
You stop and hang a lantern on an iron stake near the entrance you used to get into the cave.

The way out thus marked, you begin forward, following the river.  Its like walking along the riverbank on a starless night; you can see only 20 or so feet in front of or behind you before the darkness cuts everything off. Even the lantern by the entrance becomes a distant spark within a few minutes. It does, however, reveal that there are things littering this otherwise seemingly flat and empty plain, as they intercept the lantern's light every so often. You eventually come across one along the river. Its a large thing, about 9 feet tall and 2 thick, a jade pillar carved with geometric designs. You look it over carefully for any sort of useful magic words but find none. Its sunk into the ground and tilted slightly as though it settled a bit off kilter since it was placed.  You travel a bit and find another similar pillar, though this time there are two, one on either side of the river. You continue on and find more and more of the things until finally they form an unbroken line of pillars holding up a wonderfully engraved jade ceiling. The combination of pillars and platform above continue on, a strange covered path of sorts. You walk out and look at the structure from the side and see that instead of a covered path the "ceiling" is actually the floor of a raised walkway, as there are raised sidewalls around the top part.

You transfer 10 mana and follow along.

Use my knowledge of caves to figure out which way to go, and then go there!
Also figure out how good my rock hammer is as a weapon.

Also maybe I could get some levelups over time due to starting with half as many stats as normal? Finishing off that vampire might be a good place to start. :3

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You follow Darwin, since he's going the way you would as well.

Your rock hammer varies in effectiveness depending on the foe but is usually a d6 because it is well made.

You have no magic so that seems reasonable. Level up buttercup.
