"Well, mostly I can make people and creatures bigger and stronger.  As you could see if you saw Benedict.. he's my giant griffen.  I can also do that for objects, like my clothes."

With that, she points at her odd outfit, which is a sort of elaborate robe thing in grayed-out white and red, that's made of some strange fabric.

"It's as strong as thick, heavy plate armour while being much lighter and easier to move in."

"I can also do healing, but I can't really make items for that, as I need to be next to people to sort of fill in their wounds, not just heal them.

..as for other stuff, I can sorta try to see things very far away, but I'm not good at that, and I can summon monkeys or apes.  That's about it.  I've got a lot of stuff I can do, but there's just always so much to do.  Always so much I want to do, and never enough mana to go around."

Ekrov nods, his smile returning.  "Fascinating!  You're like a storybook hero, with a grand array of equipment, and so many powers, and you're... hrm, very..." he pauses, looking back to the gryotourbillon for a few seconds while he searches for a word "...Charismatic!  Yes, you're really quite, this, this all is very impressive, you've gathered so many people together, here, I'm just... it's very impressive."  He nods firmly.

"...Ah, you asked about enchantments, well.  Perhaps you could... hmm."  he raises one hand in front of his face, flexing the fingers and frowning at them.  Then he sighs.  "Armor.  I don't exactly... have the constitution for heavy plate, but if I'm to be on the battlefield, armor is the single greatest tool.  Something like your... equipment--although I presume simpler--would be the wisest investment."

"Beyond that, it is probably wisest to save your magic.  There will be more need once fighting has started.  As you said, there is never enough.  I've used my own magic very little, for the very same reason.  What I told you earlier is about all I know of it.  I can imbue things with maintained, autonomous motion.  Similar to this clockwork, but without metal or gears to drive it.  It can be used very effectively for scrying, which nobles are..." Ekrov scowls and closes his eyes, stopping for a moment.  "Nevermind that.  If you need an additional source of information, I can provide that.  I also hope to be able to help with the smoke cover, as you suggested before."

"Err... maybe?  I think that's a bit too much.  I've done a few things, but nothing very big.  And I might have a big bird, but well..

We're going down into a cave filled with bug-creatures.  Hundreds of them.  And hundreds of kidnapped people, who have been taken from this town for years.  And it's in a huge cavern with glowy lights and big buildings and hives and who knows what else."

After that she perks up a bit.

"Maybe once we save these people we could say that.  But up until now, all I've done was heal a few people individually.  This will be the first time I've done something big like this."

"Yeah, I can make your armour stronger, no problem.  I'll do that right now, with your permission.  That sounds like a good idea."

Get a closer look at the corner and the tunnel around it. Is it diggable with what I have on hand? would i be able to pry some part of the stone corner up and get entrance to what lies inside? Does the tunnel continue past the corner? Walk a short distance down the tunnel and see if there are similar signs of buried buildings, but be sure ot return to this one.

Head into the store that sells a gold ring for 25 gold, and ask the shopkeeper if I can get a closer look at the ring. (Hopefully touching the ring will help the spirit)
[6v4]
You talk the shop keeper into letting you "examine" the ring. You hold it and look it over carefully, like you assume some discerning customer would. This seems to satisfy the spirit.
[+7 mana]

"I... I'll go along with it if Adam's okay with it. I don't think it'd be right to just force it on him against his will, but I'd like to go ahead and find out. Um, what do you want us to do?"
Tentatively agree? I want Adam's permission first. does he have anything to say on the matter? Anything he wants to convince him to go along with this?

Spoiler: Nina (click to show/hide)
"There is no requirement to do this." the man says, "Though saying no could make getting into the Breakers more difficult. We will not force it upon either of you. However, if he desires to, he only need separate for a short period and may remain nearby. He should have the capacity to do that of his own will."

Adam, shifting through to a form that you think might be a fetus, though a very early one, does not respond but instead drifts away from you. For a moment he seems to strain against something unseen and then presses through. You feel the connection to him snap and...you feel different. Not hugely so, not as though your entire personality is changed but...things seem dulled. The trepidation about this test is basically gone, replaced by a still calmness. You feel dissociated from the world, as though you're looking at things through someone else's eyes and the situation they're in is of interest to you but doesn't actually affect anything.

The interrogator tilts his head to the side and leans in a bit. "Have you two separated?"

You nod while looking at your hands and flexing them experimentally.

"How do you feel?"

Since I'm done answering questions and don't have anything else to do, go check how's Nina doing.

Spoiler: Randolf Osborn (click to show/hide)
You get shown to the room Nina is being interrogated in but are kept outside, waiting by the door. They tell you she is almost finished.

See how much mana I gained from the combat. Help with treating the wounded, then commence with looting the dead.

[+8 mana]

You start walking around the deck, helping people and taking stuff. The boat seems to have a trained doctor so instead of trying your hand on the injured you just help them over to the doctor. In your search of the deck you get two d6 single shot pistols, 8 rounds for them, a d6 cutlass, and a d6 boarding ax.

The bodies of the dead pirates are being shoved overboard and the ship is moving again, putting space between itself and the burning flux.

Spoiler: Felix Testimony (click to show/hide)
The corner is made of stone and mortar...and it looks like the upper corner of a room maybe?  You think you could pry it open. Maybe by hand, but definitely with a bar or similar tool.  The tunnel does continue and in the short distance you walk you do find signs of other structures, albeit ones more scattered or damaged. Flag stones, petrified wood, even some corroded metal, all stuck into the stone.

"I have another suggestion, Ekrov.  I wanted to sell that for money to pay these mercenaries.. they aren't fighting for free.  If you donate some of your money to the bounty fund, I'll pay you back twicefold later.  I was planning to change things up from being a wandering healer for a time, and explore some of the ancient ruins in this part of the world.  That's quite profitable.. I met some other mages who did that and came back with a cart full of treasure and thousands of gold pieces."

Ekrov, already visibly uncomfortable in Saeko's presence, grimaces slightly at that request.  He pauses, staring at the gyrotourbillon and thinking over the request.  Eventually, he answers with a question.  "How much do you need?"

He blanches when her answer is "as much as you're willing to give!", then drops his face into his hands.  Once she expounds a bit, saying that forty gold will pay one gold to each merc, he nods, looking slightly less pale, and gives his response, his voice carefully measured--though he stumbles somewhat.  "Two hundred gold, then, and with the agreement that you ah-allow me to accompany with you, er, accompany you into these ruins, and, you guide me to the crashed clockwork vessel you mentioned earlier.  Before the ruins."  He takes a deep breath, and looks Saeko in the eye.  "I do want to help.  But, I don't know you, I can't track you, to ensure my payment I'll have to follow you.  And, ah, I'll forgive some of the debt for the trip, of course, as payment."

We have days, right?  Obtain paper and pencil and stuff, I presume for dirt cheap, and then take the gyrotourbillon somewhere protected.  Inn room or something.  Spend most of a day just drawing the device, trying to copy down its design as much as possible before melting it.  I presume that spending the whole day on it should make that relatively easy?  Eh, if the sketches are at all decent, melt the thing down into thaum afterward.  As agreed, Ekrov will keep half the mana, and pay half of it back to Saeko.

...Also, 'cause I'm curious, does Ekrov actually know what the gyrotourbillon is?  What it does?  How much does he know about clockwork mechanisms in general?

Edit:  Ekrov is adding two hundred gold to the bounty fund, and will go along with Saeko when this is announced to them.  He'll be quite clear that it's his money, and that he intends to directly support the mercenaries with his magic, as well.  Ekrov's not the standard pompous noble, but he absolutely feels that people should know who's writing their paycheck.

Spoiler: NEEEEERRD (click to show/hide)
2 silver for the paper and pencil...well pencil like thing.

You carry the Gyrotourbillon off to your inn room and spend the entire day carefully sketching down its design, making notes and plans for how everything seems to work.  Once you have it all recorded as accurately as you think is possible, you melt it down and convert it to thaum. You get 17 mana worth of Thaum from it and give 8 to Saeko.

[12v1]
You're not entirely sure what it was used for in the ship, but you know its used to keep time. Its an escapement and "ticks" at a set and known rate which can then be extrapolated out to different related times using gearing. If you had to guess its purpose in the original machine, it would probably be related to the artificial "mind" that guided the ship. An internal sense of time is important for decision making after all.

Okie dokie.

(Naturegirl:
Spirits don't destroy or consume the items you get them for mana.  They basically look at them, and that does something for them.  You may not need to purchase the ring to use it.)

After negotiations with Ekrov, give him the gyrotorbillion for conversion to mana.  The result is to be split evenly between us.

Next, use Strengthen to improve Ekrov's cloth armour to d6.  As per his request to conserve my mana, don't retry if it fails.

"I also think you should hang back with the entrance crew if you're coming underground.  You have an animate word, and there will be clouds of smoke and some fires burning, which should be very useful."

Also, lets make that hiding item for the magebreakers.  Buy an umbrella, and see if more umbrellas are available.  Cast a d6 strengthen reverse-view spell on it, to make it hide itself and things protected by itself from magical observation, when activated by being opened.  Then cast a Strengthen Expand spell on that spell to make the bubble large enough to hide a group of people.  Repeat this until successful.

If, counting the mana from half of the gyrotorbillion, I still have more than 15 mana, make another item.  Find a jeweller and buy a cheap necklace.  Cast one spell on it, with a duration of a week.  A temporary d6 Strengthen spell to improve the ability to recover from injury while worn.  Basically, I want a necklace that will boost people's ability to heal naturally when it's put on.  I'm thinking it'll help with malnutrition, choking from smoke, neglected minor injuries, extreme exhaustion, etcetera.  To help the worst abused people to survive, not to do major wound cures, and a temporary duration to boost it's power noticeably.

Make a second necklace if I still have more than 15 mana.

During the evening, take Benedict live-fishing by flying over the lake looking for some fish for him to try and grab with his claws or beak directly.  Do this to get him excited enough for a hug, as I haven't taken any mana from him, and if he shrinks a bit, it'll help with the very tight mineshaft tomorrow.

To finish things off, pay for a few drinks with the mercenaries.  Inform them that another 200 gold has been just added to the bounty fund, which should mean a better payday for everyone.  Go with Ekrov if he wants to observe, but don't tell them he's responsable for the money.  Try for a few mana-hugs.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
[+8 mana]
[6+1 v2] [-2 mana]
You cast strengthen on the cloth and it seems to gleam with a slight silver glow from then on.

So are you strengthening the inherent opaque nature of the umbrella so that anyone looking at you would see an open umbrella in like...a sphere around you? Or are you attempting to go completely invisible? Or just be a black spot on their vision?  For the difficulty and cost.

You buy a necklace for 1 gold. [10v3] [-3 mana] The necklace takes on a dull glow. You buy a second necklace and try to do the same thing [6v1][-1 mana]. It succeeds.

You get +5 mana from Benedict after your fishing trip and he remains the same size though...you notice he does seem somewhat more tired from the drain than you'd expect.

[-10 gold] You pay for a big ol' keg of ale for everyone. It doesn't last long but its still obviously appreciated. As is the increased bounty. You gain 5 mana from your random hugs that night.

give the ring back to the shopkeeper
“Thank you for letting me see the ring. Do you happen to know where some silver wire can be found? I don’t have money to purchase the ring, I just wanted to get a look at it. Thank you for your time.”

Listen to the shopkeeper and see if they know any place silver wire can be found. After she answers, thank them for their time and leave the shop, then try to figure out if the spirit is still here, then try to summon aluminum to sell it to get the money for the silver wire

(Thanks for the message tip)

"Dis-tant...", feeling my mouth forming words is weird... "I guess I am... or was? a gestalt. This... is weird. Like i'm just kinda... riding in my body. Like... things don't seem to matter a lot, though... I'm still interested, and care, it's... weird."
Answer, and see what else seems different now. This... this is weird.

(Umbrella was rolled for, 1d6 spell for strengthened reverse view, 1d10 for strengthened expand.  Total cost, 4 mana.  Should still have camo painted on it.)

That's odd.  I though mana was life, and bigger, stronger things had more life, and hence mana.  Maybe old Eggsy hasn't been big for long enough to build up that mana store.

Give the umbrella to Ekrov, to paint camo on the upper surface of it, as that's the part that gets seen from the odd bubble effect.  Let him know to give it to the magebreakers when he's finished, as it's what's going to block the view of the people under it.

Try to figure out what's wrong with Benedict, by taking a good examination of his mental space and speculating if anything's wrong with him.  If nothing seems apparent, give him two mana and see if that reveals any hidden drain effects or anything.  If there still isn't anything, put one of the endurance-boosting amulets on him for his nap, as their timers are already running.  Also, assess if there's enough space in his mind to accomodate a defensive spirit to be summoned into there with orders to protect his mindspace.

Rest.  Tomorrow is going to be the attack day.  Everyone ready?  Any issues from the 'breakers about the quantity of mana drained yet?.

Attempt to pry the stone corner open, by hand. If I struggle, cast FORCE to buff my efforts. spend one mana. That ought to be enough to replicate using a lever, right? If THAT doesn't work, I'll bring out my trump Material and cast PORCELAIN on the stone to turn it into a more fragile, but prettier, version of itself. 3 mana, aimed primarily at wherever the stone seems to be sticking the most.

Paint Saeko's umbrella for her.  After that's done, buy a pair of shields (they're in the rules doc as a "great" item, equivalent with d6 armor and weapons).  He'll spend a bit of the day around Benedict, interacting with the creautre and sketching him from various angles.  Then, Ekrov will spend his evening painting a stylized emblem of Benedict onto whichever shield looks better.  Keep it overnight, Saeko doesn't need it yet.
