Couldn't we just not use the store?

Of course.  That won't stop the game being balanced to incentivize its use though.  If a waiter shits on the side of your plate you could just not eat the shit, but it's still tainted the rest of the meal.

And, well, "Pay us so you don't have to play our game for as long" speaks volumes about how fun they think the game is.

Plus people have this miraculous ability of not liking bad business practices even if it doesn't affect them.

So even if we ignore the fact that the game will bend over backwards to make you buy this stuff with real money... Yeah I don't want to support this shite.

That is fair. I usually wait for reviews to come out anyway. If it seems unfairly slanted towards store usage I won't be picking it up.

If you buy the game and don't use the store, you generate data that people like the game, but don't like the store. If you don't buy the game at all, you generate data that making games like this is a bad business idea, regardless of the presence of the store. Just wait for reviews. If the game becomes unfun due to the grind, then don't buy it. Otherwise, vote with your wallet FOR the things you like about the game and AGAINST the things you don't like.

Guess I'm not surprised. The shitty mobile tag along game seemed like a harbinger of most bad taste to come. I don't expect this will affect my enjoyment of the game. Loot crates are the dejour flavor of the year for micro transactions.

No no, it's one of those self-referential phrases, like a paradox. This is the dumbest thing that he's seen all week, and that itself is the dumbest thing he's seen all week.

"So what's your "deep, personal story" with your favorite Nemesis Orc?

"I paid $4.99 for him."

"That motherfucker."

It's also been confirmed that the game requires constant internet connection despite being a single player.

... which is probably so that they can make sure people aren't cheating in loot crates, something which probably wouldn't be required without them...

Wasn't it China or somewhere - where your drop rates had to be clear/visible? I'd be curious if any loot falls in the "buy me or never get me" area...

My biggest worry is still that it'll be shallow with nothing (hard/challanging) to do after a while, like the previous one.

Now THAT is another interesting issue with this system is that because it doesn't count as gambling they don't have to actually show the actual chances of getting anything, and that chance can be 0.
