Evolution Game 2 IC

As your home comet breaks apart some species are incinerated by the heat. Others are swathed in enough water and ice to make it through the atmosphere safely. Those lucky enough to survive find themselves plunged into a body of water incomprehensibly vaster than the one their species evolved in. Only a handful of the dozens of alien species survived the rough landing as the comet broke into pieces.


Shallow Sea:
Whats more, a new sensation accosted the senses of these poor bewildered space travellers. Bright sunlight. Various amounts of bioluminescence had existed inside the comet, but nothing like this. It certainly was a strange surprise. The sea here is shallow and full of light. It seems that this area has some indigenous life forms.

Noverian: Five Noverains survive the incredibly rough crash. Its likely that the rest of your species either burned alive in the atmosphere, or ended up on land, or in deeper waters. However, only five Noverians survived and landed in a viable location. What the Noverians discovered was unlike anything they had ever experienced. Bright light! If they could think, they would think they'd found paradise. These ovular cyan blobular creature's foodsource had increased tens if not hundreds of times over. It was glorious for them, they blobs didnt even have to move or do anything, there was literally food everywhere. Your population grew to 10 individuals very quickly, however, several members of your species were devoured by an indigenous creature. Without eyes, your species has no idea what is really preying on it. Population 8.

Moplural: Your species has hundreds of viable survivors land in the shallow sea. There are stony outcroppings, some breaching the surface in shallow areas, and many more submerged. Your species finds refuge in these outcroppings, and in chunks of meteor that litter the shallow sea. Those that were too distant from an outcropping upon arrival, likely perished. About 800 of your species arrived safely and found homes in the various outcroppings. Food here was abundant, tiny blue algae grew on the rocks, and served as a great food source and the Microsis exertialum which you had eaten in the commet also took hold in this area. However, you find your species eaten often by a wide variety of creatures, likely because you are similar size and have a similar diet to a native species of cube-shaped crustaceans. Your population grows to 1000, but your finding competition for food and predication to be big issues.

Neophid: You sand dwelling worms had a monopoly on the little sand inside the comet, now there is sand for unimaginable distances, only interrupted by the occasional stony outcropping. Unfortunately, your food source did not seem to survive the landing, but you quickly find another in the sand. A strange red plant had very tasty roots, however, you found that once you ate some of the roots, the natural buoyancy of the plant caused it to uproot and float away. Another small plant had some roots and was much easier to find, but they we're much less nutritious. Your population grew, but a small digging predator found you to be delicious. The long creature looks an armored worm several times larger than your creature, but has a long barbed tongue which it sticks down into the tunnels created by your species. They're voracious, but have great difficulty in actually catching your creatures. Your population reaches 250.

Klarnn: Your species which was one of the apex predators in the comet finds a giant hunting ground in the shallow seas. No native species seem capable of eating you, but one indigenous species which is shaped like an 8 and has two tentacles in the narrowest part of your body seems to be incredibly territorial. It has a sharp horn, and uses it to drive your species away. It is about the same size as your creature. Beyond this, your species has no issues and feasts upon various native creatures. Several seem poisonous, but your species seems able to deal with that. Your typical prey is nowhere to be seen however, except a few Nasone. Your population grows to 10.

Microsis exertialum: Your species finds plenty of alien algae to devour, and you are in turn devoured by Mopulars, just as you were in the comet. Other tiny creatures of many varieties eat you as well. Your species rapidly grows to 100,000, but at least 10,000 get eaten as you are so small and tasty. Life is not easy for tiny creatures, but you are many. Population is 90,000.

Nasone: Your species is mostly herbivorous omnivorus and has an acute sense of smell for locating plants. The many smells of this strange new world are confusing, but you manage to find some red plants with balloon-like vesicles. Some are rooted, but others float through the water. They're delicious, and nutritious, but quite rare. Your nose helps you find them, but there numbers are quite low. Other grassy plants can be found in patches in the sand, but their not very nutritious. Small indigenous blobs also are discovered to be a decent food source. Your population remains grows despite Klarnn eating you. No native species seem interested in you for some strange reason. Your population reaches 64.



Deep Sea:
Some species find themselves in an environment very similar to the comet. It is dark, it is cold, and it feels a lot like home. Here along the deep seabed it seems as though your world has expanded beyond imagination and wondrous native species baffle the mind.

Brot worm: Your species finds itself at the bottom of a deep ocean. Not that it can really comprehend that this is an ocean or that it is deep, all it knows is that is seems as if the world has gotten a lot bigger. Finding food here is not exactly easy, your species crawls along the seafloor looking for anything edible. Some are successful, some are not. There is no plant life here, but tiny cube-shaped crustaceans are found to be edible, but they do put up a small fight, but are more of an annoyance than anything. A relatively decent food source. Your creature is more used to eating plants, but there is very little plant material down here in the deep. You population only manages to grow to 18 individuals. Luckily, you ran into no predators.

Glivin: Your species finds itself quite at home along the sea floor in the deep ocean. Tiny cube shaped crustaceans, and three armed tentacle creatures serve as a good food source for your species. Your eyespots, while not very good at actual vision, are quite sensitive to changes in the incredibly dim light. This allows your species to find its food and devour it. Your species finds that a small race of slug-like creatures eat the slime trail left by your creature. They won't come near your creature, for fear of being eaten, but you've noticed them non-the-less. Something is preying on your species, it swims and has a long proboscis used to suck out some of your slime. While not always deadly, it does injure your blobs, and there is almost nowhere to hide from these creatures. Your population remains at 8.

Stubbornians: Your species finds itself in the depths, but is one of the few swimming creatures from the comet and is capable of moving in three dimensions through the water. Your species has little trouble finding food near the bottom of the ocean though. Various native creatures which swim near the bottom of the ocean scavenging or hunting, get tangled in your tentacles. It seems that they have little resistance to your species' sting. There are few large creatures here, but one creature that could be described as a giant sea salamander, does inadvertently eat one of your species. Which it was much to large to be killed, it did seem bothered by your sting. However, it was most likely trying to eat the food caught in your tentacles. You only see one of them, and it was large enough to swallow one of your species whole, with ease. Other than that, it seems food scarcity is the main issue for your species. Your population grows to 19.

Goobloids
: 200 goobloids manage to survive (I think) and take residence in the deep ocean. Here they find microscopic organisms living in the sand to be quite tasty. Their tiny mouths are the perfect size for feeding on the tiny micro-organism that make up the bottom of the food chain down here. Few species take interest in your species, and those that do regret it. Except one that is. A species of three tentacled creatures find your species delectable, and seem only mildly bothered by your toxic flesh. It seems they are accustomed to eating other toxic creatures. However, their numbers are reduced by Glivins, which have no interest in you. Your species grows to 275, and seem perfectly suited to this area.

Chitter: Only two chitters manage to survive the trip, however each of them have four parasitic babies meaning ten total of your species arrive. Your species is omnivorous and finds the tiny cube-crabs living at the bottom of the deep ocean to be a good food source. Your species however, discovered that a species of sand dwelling slugs that eat slime trails, to be a terrible food source. They have a long barb for a tongue, which packs a toxic sting. You lose three members of your species as one of the "mothers" tried to eat some of these slugs and they harpooned her. Most of the babies fled, but the one that stayed was poisoned to death along with its mother. The slugs themselves seemed completely uninterested in the corpse. You have no run ins with any true predators this turn. Your population manages to grow despite the loss of one of the mothers, reaching 12 members total.

Given the sudden exposure to massive amounts of light, it turned out that certain cells on the skin of Moplurals were slightly photosensitive. The minor advantage this provided was enough for the species to develop patches of light-sensing skin, which help it to detect predators and escape from them.

Evolve Primitive Photosensitivity for 1 Evolution Point

The abundance of energy given off from sunlight caused Noverians chloroplast to produce more energy through photosynthesis than ever before, the increase energy led to the creature giving off a byproduct called oxygen.

Evolve Primitive Photosynthesis to produce oxygen for 1 Evolution Point

Whether it was to find food, to prey on the tasty blobs or to escape the dreaded  Klarnns one selective pressure soon rose above all others. The need to move. Natural selection worked his magic and soon a new strain of Nasone emerged.The end of their bodies had become flatter and wider forming a primitive fin , which allowed easier and faster movements into the water.

The Stubbornians species have experienced where the most source of food is in the ocean floor, their is little competition and abundance of species in the deep ocean. They have adapted thick cilia on their tentacles which allows their tendrils to move slowly across the ocean floor as the bulb/bell of the Stubbornians is slowly forced to move by their tendrils.

Due to the pressure of the recent predation, some of the Neophids develop a patch of heat-sensitive skin near their head, enabling them to detect temperature changes in the surrounding area. This makes it easier for them to avoid the tongue of the armored worms.

Evolve Basic Infrared Radiation for 1EP.

Though food isn't very abundant, the Brot worms seemed to be doing fairly well in terms of location and lack of predators.

Don't evolve anything. Save the EP for later.

Sensing a new threat capable of of potentially cornering their food supply, and wanting something to aid them in hunting fast prey, The Klarnn's children begin to evolve multiple shootable teeth inside their mouths. The teeth regrow overtime.
The Klarnn evolve a basic dart weapon for 1 ep.


The Klarnn save their ep for later.
Life isn't difficult yet.

After fleeing from the venomous slugs, the chitter offspring begin to grow small chitinous but flexible plates over their bodies made of the same material as their beaks.
Evolve light plating over face and weak spots from the spreading of their beaks for 1 ep

Finding life in the ocean quite easy, Microsis exertialum doesn't need to evolve yet.

Shallow Sea:


Noverian:Your species now creates oxygen as a biproduct of photosynthesis. This doesn't really change your situation much, you still get lots of energy from sunlight, and you are still being preyed upon by something that you cannot avoid because you have no sensory organs except touch. Your population grows to 14.

Moplural:Your species develops rudimentary light sensitivity. Far from having vision, but still quite useful. Now your creatures can accurately tell when they are hidden and when they are not. This does help a bit in hiding from predators, but the real issue comes from when your species is feeding. Algae only grows out in the open, and predators look for you now that they know your a decent food source. You light sensitivity does alert you to when something is blocking the light, but at that point, its often too late for your little guy. Its even worse at nighttime when nocturnal creatures on are on the hunt and you cannot tell when predators are about or if you're hidden or not. All and all, your population was still able to grow ten percent to 1100 despite increased predation.

Neophid: Your heat sensitivity gave you a serious advantage against your armored predator. While your creatures are still blind, they can make out warmer areas verses colder areas. Now your species does a fairly good job of avoiding its predator all together, especially at night. Some still get eaten, but not nearly as many as before. Finding food is still an issue, but right now the sea grass can support your root eating habits. Your population grows to 330.

Klarnn: Your species remains unchanged. Your able to eat most of the larger creatures around this area, and only those weird 8 creatures seem to be near your size, but they really aren't a threat to life-and-limb unless you enter into their territory. They don't even appear to be predators, which makes you the apex predator as far as you know. Your population is able to gorge itself, and doesn't really run into any issues. Population grows to 14.

Microsis exertialum: Life remains unchanged for the smallest of creatures. You reproduce much faster than you are eaten. Population swells to 100,000. If this continues, the chances of a random mutation will become quite high. Basically everything less than an inch wide eats you, and you are out-competing the indigenous creatures of your size.

Nasone: Some of your species grow a flattened end to their tail. Its basically stretched flesh in a paddle shape, but it is a pretty decent fin. This allows your species to get up off the sandbed and into open water in its search for food. Your species is much more able to sniff out (literally) beds of sea grass and the revered red bubble plant. You however, are much more visable to Klarnn, and get eaten a bit more often, but this is greatly outweighed by your increased mobility and ability to find food. Your population grows to 91!



Deep Sea (All subject to change based upon the Glivin evolution).


Brot worm: Your species has its first run in with a predator, Stubbornians. These normally free floating jellyfish typically eat fish and other suspended food, but it seems that they've developed brushlike tentacles to drag along the seabed. Your species is bigger than the Stubbornians, and you only lose one individual to them directly. The problem is, they're dredging the seabed and scooping up tasty food. And food was kind of scarce to find in the first place. Your population only grows to 19 this turn.

Glivin

Stubbornians: Your species tentacles now have brush-like cilia along the tentacles, making them much much better scavengers. Instead of actively hunting, most stubbornians are finding its easier to just dredge the sea floor. Your species manages to catch much smaller food this way, but a lot more of it. You dredged up threestars, cubecrabs, and even one brot worm, along with whatever those creatures were scavenging on as well. Your species just went from apex predator, to apex scavenger. However, some of your stubbornians suddenly get sick and die. It seems they ate something quite toxic, but without eyes, and the catch-all nature of food dredging, its hard to say what exactly is so deadly. Your population explodes, growing to 34.

Goobloids: Your species develops bioluminescence. Its likely that it already had the genes for bioluminescence, as most creatures aboard the comet descended from bioluminescent creatures. It has some rather interesting effects. Your globs glow, which is cool, but it shows predators where you are (theoretically). Most creatures down here are blind, and only some hunters use vision to locate prey. None of your predators do, and the rest continue to leave you alone. It seems the biolumanscence actually worries them, probably because it signals you're poisonous. The threestars still continue to eat you however, and so your population grows to 369. Something else ate a few of your species, but judging by the increased number of nearby corpses, its likely they didn't mean to.

Chitter: Your species develops face plates that extend out from the beak. This is quite usefull in protecting your creature from the a good deal of dangers. You only seem to get eaten by stubborians, which have recently started eating basically everything. Food is becoming more scarce, but there is still plenty for your population to grow. Turns out, slugs, still toxic even if they cant sting through your faceplates. Best to be avoided. Most of the creatures here live on the seafloor, and being freeswimming gives you an advantage in finding food, but you are not as good at eating meat as other creatures of the deep, so you must find more than them. Your population grows to 16.

Though the Brot worms suffer from competition with the Stubbornians, over time evolution takes its course, and the Brot worms develop a harpoon-like structure tucked away in their mouths that they can thrust forward with deadly force.

Use one EP to evolve a harpoon structure in the Brot worms' mouth, and another EP to evolve a basic gas bladder for use in propelling the harpoon outward.
