Yes, it does serve a purpose.

When you are caught spying and the AI threatens you, you are given the choice to ignore the threat or to tell your spies to hide. If your spies are caught spying AGAIN, the AI will go to war with you. So there is a good reason to heed the AI threats.


When you catch the AI spying and decide to threaten it, the AI makes the same calculation that you make. If it takes your threat seriously, then it will definitely stop spying on you for a period of time. If it ignores your threat, well then at least you know that war may be coming soon.

Cool. Was mostly meaning that in most games that have diplomacy, the player can threaten all day and it never seems to do anything to CPU. (historically)

It is a legitimate concern. The reason that this diplomatic feature (threats) was added last was specifically because I wouldn't add it unless I could find a way to make it meaningful.

version 2.17 is now out.

The key upgrade in this version is there are now 3 selectable AIs to play against: the base AI plus two tougher AIs made by modders.

"Modnar" has made a tougher AI that remains immersive in gameplay while "Xilmi" (better known as AIL of Pandora fame) has made a tough AI that ignores personality and plays to win.

That is some top tier art. I haven't gotten around to playing version .93 yet, but I'm glad to see that the exe version has allowed more people to enjoy the game. Here's to being another step closer to 1.0's eventual release.
