Name: Emperor Mircea XI, Blessed Protector of the Realm of Arvinia
Age: Appears in his early 30s. True age unknown.
Gender: M
Appearance: Mircea strikes an imposing figure, standing at six feet five with the physique of a giant. His brilliant red hair is close-cut and well-kept, extending down around the sides of his face to link with his thick, short beard, akin to a lion's mane. His fierce green eyes exude intensity and his deep, firm voice carries authority; the figure he strikes is akin to a fierce deity, come to earth to exert his authority. His claim that he was 'crowned by Heaven' lends credence to this aura. His golden armor is rather ornate, a metallic sheen throughout it despite being made of dragonbone. The chestplate is carved in the pattern of a stylized sun with a red gem set in the center, the emblem of Arvinia. His shoulderbraces and vambraces are similarly adorned, with an undersuit of red cloth over a suit of silver chainmail to protect the areas his dragonbone armor does not cover. The most distinctive feature of his armor, however, are the stylised wings, crafted from the wingbones of the dragon, mounted behind him and loaded with golden metal feathers. His spear Perun is similarly ornate, a long shaft bound with leather and tipped with a long blade engraved with the symbol of Arvinia and the Arvinian standard tied to the spear beneath the blade.
Radu, his steed, stands almost as tall as Mircea himself, sitting at a height of six feet. His coat is white, glimmering in the light, and his build is muscular, belying his unparalleled speed befitting of the Alenndi breed of horses he hails from. Radu is adorned with armor similar to his rider, golden plates interlinked to deter blades, arrows and musket balls alike, the Arvinian standard hanging from the sides of his armor.
Background: The land of Arvinia was once a small principality upon the continent of Tinore. The Principality was always small but proud; the lineage of the Arvinian royal family always managed to protect their nation from invaders, with the legendary founder of the nation Mircea I famously making a stand against the armies of Regelsk, Ulma and Tintagel to protect the burgeoning nation from being rendered a mere province to be divided between these empire-seeking nations. The descendants of Mircea have maintained Arvinia's independence in the centuries since, and Arvinia has become known as a small, but ferociously proud nation, benevolent to its allies and dangerous to its opponents. The last monarch of the Principality of Arvinia, Tihomir II, was known as a good prince, providing a time of bounty for the land and protecting it once more from the land-seeking ambitions of Regelsk. However, Tihomir died childless; his wife was killed by Regelskan assassins and Tihomir never truly recovered. The prince did not leave any heirs, nor indicated any.
The man who would become Mircea XI was a minor relative of Tihomir's; a beloved nephew, to be precise. Mircea and Tihomir were particularly close, as the young man had lost his own father at a young age, and Tihomir had become a father figure of sorts. When Tihomir died, Mircea grieved, but his time was little; in the power vacuum Tihomir had left, Regelsk, Ulma and the surrounding nations had begun to manoeuvre into positions to reclaim the now defenseless and leaderless Arvinia and within Arvinia itself, the country had torn itself to pieces with lords trying to take control of the country. Determined that his beloved Arvinia would not be taken over by these people, Mircea decided that it was his duty to unite Arvinia, to defend it once more from these invaders as Mircea I once did; even more, he felt it was his divinely ordained duty to make the land great in the eyes of the world. Setting out with a few dozen followers, a rusty spear, and the Alenndi horse Radu, the young man, barely full grown, set out.
Within the year, the man had united Arvinia, having crushed superior armies with sheer willpower and the skill of his tiny, but professional men, and had himself crowned Mircea XI, recalling the man who had defended the country, uniting Arvinia once more, attaining the legendary spear Perun in the process. Within two, he had drawn the lands of Ulma and Bayern into the Principality after their failed attempts to invade Arvinia and defeated a Regelskan attempt at invading Arvinia. Within three, Arvinia had become four times the size it had once been, many through willing defection to the great empire, and many of the nations around had become tribute to the now Emperor Mircea. Of course, the rulers of Arvinia's vassals had become concerned; with the rise of Regelsk's power, it too had become an Empire under the mysterious and charismatic Thiyr, who styled himself the Deliverer. No country had stood up to the armies of Regelsk, reputed to have included hordes of the undead, warriors from times past. The only nation that had managed to fight Regelsk and win was Arvinia, and Mircea, even with the eccentricity of declaring himself 'crowned by God', was a fierce and skilled leader who was willing to protect these nations from Thiyr's own ambitions.
Indeed, Thiyr and Mircea met many times upon the battlefield, with Mircea standing as the immovable object to Thiyr's unstoppable force. Mircea saw it as his own duty to protect Tinore from Thiyr's ambitions; Thiyr saw Mircea as an obstacle to the full and utter domination of the world he desired. Indeed, at first, after the initial defeats, Thiyr, knowing that Mircea would defeat him in a pitched battle, attempted to avoid fighting him, instead sending assassins and monsters after him, one of which was the dragon that he killed- almost barehandedly- to attain his distinctive armor. More and more peoples fled to the open arms of the Arvinians as Thiyr's reign extended. With no more choice, Thiyr met Mircea in a fateful battle to decide the fate of the world; whether it would fall to Regelsk's tyranny, or it would be free with Arvinia as its protector. Mircea rode out with his Golden Company; the successor to his faithful men who had set out with him at the beginning, to meet Thiyr's army.
However, Thiyr had attained a great power in preparation for fighting Mircea. With his own legendary weapon Nastrond and the magicks he possessed, Thiyr cut down the Golden Company despite a fierce battle. Enraged at the slaughter of his brother-soldiers, Mircea engaged Thiyr himself in battle, leaping upon him with the fury of a dragon. Indeed, had nobody interfered that day, Thiyr would have been slain, and his armies decapitated, and Arvinia would have won the day.
Instead, as fate would have it, Thiyr and Mircea were taken by Discord and Harmony, plucked from the battlefield, to fight a battle wholly larger in scope than the fate of one world.
