no, interactions are caste-level at best and castes aren't related to genetics

You could make castes that have different snake-hair-types and matching turn-to-stone interactions; but yeah, it wouldn't be heritable.

There was a thread on genetics somewhere, it had a lot of detailed research on how color traits and such are inherited. Sadly research showed that any caste differences (males one color, females another) caused the system to break down in just a few generations (leading to all animals showing the same colors).

It may be possible to use DFHack to examine each animal's color and correct its caste. Each caste would need to allow all possible colors (so genetics work properly), but the script would force caste and color to align.
