Anderson nods. "I'll take the M548. The toolkits are all in there anyway."
He watched Paul on the way back to the carrier. "Fairly sure, but you never know. I just threw whatever it could carry up there."

He then turned to Eveline. "Go for it, doc."

Paul swiveled his head back and nodded. Once at the back of the M548, he carefully climbed up and began to shift through the cargo carrier's load. He saw plenty of mechanical tools, some which he had a fair amount knowledge and experience utilizing. He then crouched down and opened another container. In it, he saw common hand tools that would be kept in a many households: hammers, handsaws, screwdrivers, plyers, wrenches. After sorting through the box without finding the sought after blowtorch, Paul stood up and continued his potentially fruitless search.

Oceanus nods to the doctor, gesturing to the jeep. "After you. Do you plan on sniping or can you work the rifle?"

Maybe it's luck or just a flaw in your enemy's plans but the LuAZ-967M is soon across the river and minutes later the M-548A1 follows.

With wide range of tools it's easy for you to remove part of bridge and with the powerfull M-548A1 pulls the large metal frame work free from it's holdings.

It clatterer's and clangs as it falls down in to the river below, that's one river blocked.
As you come to the crest of a hill on the road past what was once the village of Uniejow, you now see why no one has come this way.
It looks like a giants thumb has been pressed in to the earth, a blasts has left a bare crater some 25 meters around by the side of the roadway.

Slowly and with aid of a Geiger Counter you drive a wide circle around the crater keeping well back from the blast site.

The rest of the day is uneventfull and your soon encamped in the woods outside of Kolo.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Sitting atop a stout tree stump, Paul opened up a field ration. He began quietly eating and thinking about today's work and travels.

"That... Was simpler than expected. Strange how there was no one sent to secure the bridge..." Oceanus rummages about in the back of the jeeps trailer, before pulling out a pair of brown boxes. "Anyone up for some Russian day ration? Hauptmann Vogel?"

Anderson, climbing down from the carrier's cabin, stretched and breathed deeply. The drive having been surprisingly without complications, they could surely rest for a day now that they were been out of the immediate danger area. He raised a hand at Oceanus' question, waiting to catch one ration box. "I'll take some food before checking the vehicles," he said. "But we shouldn't squander it. Who's foraging?"

Oceanus tosses over the cardboard box of an IRP to the Major. "Here you are. Enjoy the best thing Russia gives out in the field. Just dont eat it all at once."

"Danke, Sergeant Azadian." Setting her pack aside by the jeep she takes one of the boxes off Oceanus' hands.

"Is concerning, though lucky for us? Maybe they didn't think anyone vould come this vay."

Eveline sits down by her pack and begins opening up the box, rifling through its contents.
"I vill go berry picking after eating."

Anderson caught the thrown ration. "Thanks," he said, ripping the packet open. "I only wanted some bread for now." As he munched on it, occasionally flushing it with some tea, he looked, for a moment, almost content.
Until he finished, at least, and abruptly stood up, stowed the remainder of the ration in the carrier, and rolled up his uniform sleeves. "You notice anything off in the jeep? Otherwise I'll check the carrier first. Don't want to lose engines out here."

"In addition to it drinking booze like a Russian in the winter? Not that I have noticed. We may want to have it use the little diesel we have and make just enough drink for the carrier, get away from the front ASAP." Oceanus opens up his own IRP, slathering some jam on a pack of loaf and chewing thoughtfully.
"Where are we headed anyway? Our Hauptmann will probably want to go back to Germany, all of you would probably want to go home to America, I personally want to return home before the Turks decide to wander over and try to kill us all again... But we also have all those poor sods back there who could use a spot of saving."

Paul stopped pondering whether he should forage in the forests or help out with the vehicle maintenance.

"You bring up a good question mister," Paul said. "I know I want to go back home and see my family. Problem is, I'm going to need to cross an ocean and a continent and everything in between to get back to Idaho. Scratch that, two continents, we're stuck in central Europe after all."

A small smile emerged from his face along with a dejected snort. He then pawed his chin for a second before speaking again.

"But as of right now, we gotta stick together to survive this mess."

"Back to the US?" Anderson looked thoughtful for a moment. "Not much chance of that, is there?"
He looked at the forest they were in. "What I want, ultimately, is civilization. I don't want to burn fuel we cannot replace, eat rations we cannot replace, or kill people we cannot replace. I don't want to fight anymore." He shrugged. "Don't get me wrong. I've been here long enough that I'll kill in a heartbeat. But I don't want to be a parasite. I want civilization."
He smiled at the others. "Whether that's in Germany, the States, or Armenia, I don't much care."
He shrugged again, spreading out his hands. "Don't get me wrong. It'll be hard work, and we will be long-dead before we succeed." He smiled, like being embarrassed by the outburst. "Still worth doing, y'know?"

"Damn, that's a good idea compadre," Paul said as his right hand lightly juggled a half eaten piece of bread."If we can establish some kind of safe zone and give people some pre-war normalcy, then maybe we can make it through this. Heck. If we get civilized enough, I bet I could get myself plane ticket back to the ranch."

The man let out small laugh. His hand released baked morsel, and it flew just above his head where he sloppily caught it with his mouth. Paul then returned to eating more conventionally.

Eveline opened up and began eating from her can of stewed beef while the men talked. At Paul's statement, halfway through a mouthful, she spluttered and released some mix of a laugh and her meal.

"I'd take you up on that bet. Anderson is right, vill die long before such ideals prevail."
Setting the can aside she reaches for a napkin, dabing it on her mouth and chin.

"Vould not make it to Armenia alone. I do vant to go home, but there is not much vaiting for me there. I think Germany is our best option, but it matters little vhat path I take to my death."
