10th Opal, Mid Winter
Snowstorms blow constantly, and yet our dear goblin remains perfectly, surprisingly alive. The main project our fortress grafts at is the armament of the militia. Iron breastplates, helmets and battleaxes have been constructed and provided to the brave militiamen and women. Next is the provision of boots, greaves and gauntlets. Our dwarves will be stalwart and wreathed in Iron. I shall finish my year as governor completing the new dorms, the Mayor's Quarters, the offices, the militia armament, and making sure that there is plenty to feast on for the next year.
20th Opal
A new legendary craftsman has emerged among us, the armourer Melbil, who has by hand crafted something near all of the armour for the militia thus far, and can hammer more truly than any other. Three legendary miners are in our company (The King, Udistinod and Teshkadast), along with Kivisherith the Engraver and Imic, the Mason. Melbil runs the entire forge almost by herself, burning charcoal, smelting ore and forging armour in a fluid motion, almost as if a machine.

The tavern has grown dramatically. It now seats sixty, in all, along three great tables, each sat upon one of the many great stone thrones crafted by Imic. His masterpieces dot the fortress, from the doors to the ever present statues, and Kivisherith's engravings match them, images of all the beauty and woe of home and war.
5th Obsidian
More and more humans come to visit us, seeking refuge from the bitter cold in our great hall. Our dormitories now number 64 rooms, with several more beds for the militia, the mayor and the king.
12th Obsidian
Two more humans have petitioned for entry as mercenaries. Our militia is suffering in confusion with the stockpiles. We have produced eleven battleaxes, but the militia cannot find them to arm themselves with them. Melbil remains at work. Fifteen human visitors dwell in our halls now, with four others among us. I do not trust this. Something is afoot in their country, driving them to flee. (I'd really suggest having a look at the legends viewer. There are a weird number of humans here)

We now have sixteen human visitors. The year is concluding with strange tidings, and we arm ourselves. We are beset by a strange issue, however, that we are running out of clothing. Our threadbare clothes are beginning to wear thin and into rags.

18 Humans visit us now. A veritable village dwelling in our banquet halls.
30th Obsidian.
With our nineteenth visitor, my time as overseer concludes. This year has brought great prosperity. Our numbers have risen and swelled, our fortress has grown larger and expanded, we have grown more secure, and have finally begun to craft iron and gold. Our militia stands training, and though they are not yet the professionals they will come to be, nor as armoured as they should be, with the aid of our cunning traps, our safety is much more assured. Our people are happier in well furnished halls, and most of the detritus of the fort has been compiled and better stored. Food is plenty, as is drink, and seeds. The dwarf folk prosper and are safe, and under my guidance, our fortress has more than tripled in value, to 370,000, With a population of sixty. I entered this office nook in a fortress of bare stone, and leave it in smooth and at least partially engraved burgeoning mountain hall.
The year has gone pretty well, I think. The militia is up and if not running at least briskly walking, the food supply is working fine. The mayor needs a better room, and the King needs improvements. The militia needs better training and equipment, probably more traps. We don't have access to flux at these levels. We should probably head for the caverns soon, our wood supply has dropped by a hundred and we're gonna need the fuel for bolts and crossbows soon enough. Plenty to do, along with the constant expansion. Cage traps proved effective against the first attacker, but it remains to be seen when/if a siege comes.
Here's the save:
http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=12808Zazq, You built the throne room. It was already that shape when I took up the save. I only added the Mayors room, some statues and engravings, and the hollow space for the treasury.
