"Good!"

Wolf quietly applauded the bloody death of the mage before again drawing her weapon and getting ready to fight... Not that many enemies were left.

[Lucus Casius]

: "Hm.  Pity.  I would've liked to question him.  Or at the very least, test the man's magic myself."

: "Oh, no matter!  I'm sure it wouldn't have been a particularly useful experiment, anyway.  We do have our stroll to finish!"

William stepped forward, dark energy cloaking his hand.

: "And these wastelanders ARE starting to grow a bit tiresome.  Let's fix that, shall we?"

With all the force of his magic behind him, the professor's fist flew forward, smashing into the wizard's face.  F10, ancient gamble worm the wizard.  There was the crack of a snapping spine before the man sailed over Zelda's head, flopping like a ragdoll before he crashed down in some (presumably dead) villager's flowerbed.  William hummed a little as he rubbed his knuckles against his coat, wiping away the sting.  And the dirt.

: "There.  More picturesque already, isn't it?"

: "I certainly think so."

[Sirus]

Chapter 1 Cleared

With the last of the Wastelander force defeated and sounds of battle suddenly gone, a few villagers cautiously poke their heads out from their hiding places. One of the villagers, an older man, slowly approaches the group from the unburned house on the left.

"Is...is it over? Are they gone?"

[Solymr]

: Hmph. That will show them.

Edmund turned to the villager.

: Yes, they're all dead. You can go back to whatever you were doing before.

[Lucus Casius]

: "You may wish to do something with all the bodies first, mind you.  Disease and rot and all that."

[Sirus]

"Yes...we'll probably have to burn them. We've enough graves to dig as it is. Still, the gods must be praised for your arrival! Many of us would have been slaughtered or enslaved without your help."

: "I'm sorry we didn't get here earlier. Unfortunately, we can't stay to help clean up. We still have a long way to go."

"I understand, milord. Well, would you accept some supplies for your journey?"

[Lucus Casius]

: "Oh, come now, Captain.  You didn't want to help in the first place.  But surely we could at least stay for a decent meal?"

: "No?"

William gave a soft, weary sigh.

: "More gruel it is, then."

: "Well, no matter.  We would be delighted to accept whatever supplies you could provide, of course.  Particularly if they happen to be the sort of supplies simple farmers could not be expected to typically possess!  Books of arcane lore, vicious and powerful weaponry, rare tools which enhance one's personal skills..."

: "Though I suppose food is still acceptable, given the alternative."

[Sirus]

Porkins shot William a glare before nodding at the village elder.

: "We already have food and camping gear, but we would be happy for whatever you can spare."

"In that case, wait here. I'll speak to the others and we'll see if we can't come up with some suitable reward for your group." With that, the old man trotted back towards his hut as other villagers began to drag bodies away.

: "Did you forget that we're in a hurry, shaman? More than that, did you forget that you're marked for death? There were some strong arguments for killing the bandits, but staying put for the night is just asking for trouble."

[Gaterhyme]

If the villagers were out and about now, looting was probably off the table.

"This is your fault," Yara mumbled to her wyvern, and winged her way back to the others.

Normally she might have puffed herself up and made to extort something from the villagers anyway, but since it looked like they were going to hand over stuff for saving them, it felt super pointless. Instead, she just landed, dismounted, and, for lack of anything else to do, began to check over her wyvern's wounds.

[Lucus Casius]

: "So people keep saying!  Not that I know precisely why, of course, since we still lack some important details."

: "Besides, it's not as though I can't just chop my hand off and walk away."

: "Well, I suppose it might be a bit painful.  Even so."

[GiglameshDespair]

Ghamina rolled her eye.
"What trouble? I'm sure we'll be magically transported closer to our destination by sleeping in a forest rather than a bed. Think, Porkins. We'll be better rested if we stay here, so we'll make better time."

: "Well, I suppose it might be a bit painful.  Even so."

"I'm sure one of our motley crew could assist you with that. Maybe the brute with the axe."

[Lucus Casius]

: "Oh, you're most kind to point that out."

: "But I'm afraid I'll have to pass, for the time being.  I'm rather fond of having both hands."

: "They allow me to hold things, you see."

[Sirus]

: "You've had plenty of rest in your prison cell, dancer. A horse might not be magical, but we've still got a few good hours of daylight riding left and that will get us closer to our destination. Not lounging about. Your days as a nobleman's plaything are over."

: "In any case, you don't actually need details about what we're doing. Especially not here, with curious ears around." One of those pairs of ears was even now returning, arms full of parcels.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, milords and ladies! We don't have much here, but I've managed to scrounge up some things. Hopefully they'll come in handy on your journey."

"Thank you, kind sir. I'm simply glad we were here to prevent further tragedy." Gawen nods gratefully at the man, before turning to the rest of the group.

"Rude as he is, the Captain has a point. Daylight is a valuable resource we cannot waste, though we may be tired and wounded."
