After much consideration, I've decided to go back to the "Old/Retired? Paladin" idea. How old is "elderly" age for vikings? 30-ish?

I'd probably say closer to 40+. 30-ish might be closer to middle age.

Depends. Unmarried seems to be mid 30's while married seems to be mid to late 40's.

Really, any age after 38 would be good. The older, the more longing for that final battle they have, and the more reckless they get

We discussed it earlier; I think we're just flat-out ignoring it because it's a stupid mechanic.

Smite Evil (assumedly) works how the variant alignment system that we're using says it should work.

Speaking of setting, do undead exist at all in this world? I know that metagaming is something to be avoided, but at the same time I would rather not waste one of my limited known spell slots on an anti-undead spell if it will never see use.

It's also a low-magic setting that might not even include elves or dwarves. Just saying "it's Pathfinder" isn't an answer.
