A small smile formed on Alice's lips as Judas raised his hand, at least she wouldn't have to be first. She placed her hands in her lap and got ready to watch the spectacle.

Thorsteinn stood back from the two, nodding to Judas, looking at the man, he didn't seem particularly strong, perhaps he was a made of some sort, that would make sense, given his propensity for treachery.

"Aye then, what contest are you two purposing? A spar with steel? Or a contest of some other way? If this is to show your skills to your fellows, we should be sure to pick something you are both adept at yes?"

[Dwarmin]

"A melee spar would be suited to my skills.

I am also adept at Arcane Dueling, matching element to element, in the historical arcane style of Tal Rasha.

Or we could do both at the same time, though I warn you, that is where I am at my utmost strength.

As I said, I will allow my opponent to dictate the terms, since I offered the challenge.' She said, gracefully.

"I can't even read so I think a test of our physical skills would be most fair."
Judas chuckles to himself. It wasn't actually going to be fair at all.

"I think....I will pass on the dueling. Fighting is......something I would....prefer to avoid."

Alfrieda nodded, and took a training warhammer from a nearby rack, enchanted to cause no permanent damage to combatants, and swung it carefully.

"Right. I'm not much for preamble. Shall we begin?"

Judas meanwhile grabs a likewise enchanted dagger.
"Please, as they say back home, come at me my comrade."

[2] Judas is randomly selected to attack first.

Judas uses Devotion to attack Alfrieda twice! [1 3 6] = 9 damage! [4 4 5] = 9 damage!

Alfrieda returns Judas's offence with a sharp strike from her warhammer. [1 5 6] + 3 = 14 damage!

Judas finishes off his foe with a surprise blow. [1 5 5] = 10 damage!

Alfrieda is defeated!

_{((Just so you know, Alfrieda's next attack would have been [2 3 5] + 3 so she would have defeated Judas if she went first or he didn't have Devotion. So I guess they're pretty balanced?))}

Judas' style was decidedly less than sportsmanlike. First of all his opening move was to throw his cloak into Alfrieda's face before rattling her skull with a quick strike to the back of her head. He'd follow it up by kicking Alfrieda in the back as he reclaims his cloak.

Alfrieda, meanwhile, had been totally blindsided by the scoundrel. She had been expecting a match of skill at arms, not whoever could kick the others shins out from underneath them first. Still, points for effectiveness....

She rose up quickly with an angry growl, swinging her warhammer in a low sweep, catching him in the chest with a...bit more...force than was necessarily required.

Judas is easily forced back by the blow. Not that he couldn't work with that. After quickly regaining his footing he throws his weapon at Alfrieda. Normally this is a horrible idea, can't stab someone when they've got your knife and all, but Judas was already running after the thrown knife. In his hands is his cloak with a rock in the hood, which would be a little weird to see normally if he didn't use it to lasso Alfireda's non-supporting leg and pull it out from under her while she's forced to deal with the knife, ideally knocking her down so he could pin her and claim victory.

To Alfrieda credit, she punched Judas in the face before he pinned her down. While her fists were distinctly not enchanted to do no harm, she did pull the blow so as not to break his nose and teeth. She figured winning wasn't worth shedding blood over. Every battle was a lesson, after all. And tricks only worked once.

Afterwards, she could only shrug, and raise her hand to signal surrender.

"...Ah, well done. I concede."

Judas stands up and rubs his nose.
"I realize that the trickery wasn't very sporting, but you could have surrendered without punching me in the face."
Nevertheless he offers the woman his hand to help her up.

She takes his hand and rises, seeming content despite her loss.

"I guess we both learned something about each other then, didn't we? You've got a lot of fancy tricks...and, I'm not a good loser." Alfrieda said with a wintry grin, rolling out her shoulder again with a small grunt of pain. That kick to the back had done her old injury no favors.

Judas shrugs.
"In my defense, you'd probably murder me in a fair fight. Metaphorically hopefully."
