"That sounds like a boring and labor-intensive way of opening a door. You do all the work."

Relax while Beorn does whatever he's doing.

Ooh! I know! Fire always resolves stalemates. Let's cook!

Beorn gathers burnable material to pile up against the door.

Beorn racks his crafty mind, and swiftly gathers enough castle furniture, barrel staves, torches, and such to get a fire started against the door.  Upon doing so, the door catches fire, and after a brief period of snapping sounds from the old wood fighting with the crackles of boiling blood from the corpses of the fallen, the door falls apart in ruins.  Beyond the trivial barrier that is the curtain of flame, there are perhaps a dozen guards in a large open room with stacked furniture along the walls.  The guards look ready, but they have the smell of fear upon them, and even through the shimmering air, the ashen hue of their faces is readily apparent.

"Hey, just so you know it's still an option to surrender and we probably won't kill you! Just putting that out there!"

Walk into the room.

But if you don't surrender, we certainly will kill you! Ahahahahahahahahahahah.

Beorn steps in after his comrade, laughing and beginning a song of War, Death, and Despair with a jaunty, upbeat melody.

It is not known why the guards decided to fight; surely they realized that they would die as their comrades did previously.  What is known, however, is that they did not die as lightly as said comrades.

Barbarisan, offering surrender is the first to come under attack.  The barbarian is attacked once, twice, and three times, each time slaying her attacker with a frightening casualness.  However, there are more than three attackers, and eventually she is wounded after failing a dodge.  Barbarisan takes one wound and is now at 2/3 HP.

Knives Beorn runs in after Barbarisan, singing, and attempts to hold the other six from attacking Barbarisan.  In that effort, he succeeds, but the roper cannot strike everywhere at once, and eventually both his hands are full while another opponent is yet attacking.  Beorn also takes a wound, dropping him to 1/3 HP.

All the same, the enemies here are all dead.  The two barbarians stand upon a field of corpses in an open room with the burnt doorway on one end and a round stairwell on the other, tables neatly stacked against the wall, and various furniture scattered about, amongst the detritus.

The two barbarians charge up the stairs, Knives Beorn in the lead with Barbarisan behind him.

Above them is a man called Dars, who is the commander of the fort, and one last squad of soldiers.  The soldiery left in the south tower has alread retreated westwards, after taking such heavy casulties on the wall.  Dars and one final squad are the last surviving soldiers who remain, apparently more afraid of Sirius than any barbarian.

The two barbarians climb up and engage, Beorn leading shoulder first and knocking over a swordsman.  He barrels through the squad, trying to gain room.  It almost works, and he knocks over three men, but the room on the next level of the tower is smaller than the one below, and he ends up in the corner before he's knocked them all down.

Barbarisan has his back, however, and before one can tag Beorn with a fatal blow, she is there with her spear.  The rest is mopup, and the barbarians stand triumphant.

The desert fortress has fallen, and is in the hands of the barbarians!  On to the lowland forests.  After celebrating, naturally.

To the kitchens! We must celebrate! Ah ... unless this pile of stones has a decent bathhouse. Or any bathhouse.

Celebrate in true Barbarian fashoin! A hot bath, a feast, and songs and tales of valor.

Later, be fore we head out, Knives will discuss the future with the servants: find out if htey have plans or goals. if not, He'll attempt to organize them as a castle watch or send them elsewhere, like to his own people as his vassals.

Then he'll head out with Barbarisan to the lowlands.

Also, the two of you, Barbarisan and Beorn, get a total of five treasures between you, split however you choose.

-edit-

The barbarians agree to an armwrestle, and Barbarisan wins the fifth treasure, a sponge opal bracelet with images of horses.
