With that, he reaches into his cloak and pulls out a dagger, which he throws straight at you.

You catch it by the handle, inches away from your face. Guards pile on top of the would-be assassin, capturing him without a fight.

He wastes no time in begging for mercy, telling you all about his master's plans in the hopes of extending his life by a few more minutes. Apparently Donuk has rallied his allies, and intends to invade your lands in force. He has sent several spies to infiltrate the city, who are to open the gates when his forces approach.
With the descriptions given, you manage to round up and capture all of Donuk's spies, and double the guard on the gates just to be sure.

Now that the assassin has outlived his usefulness, what shall we do with him?

A-Um, execute him, obviously.
B-Throw him in the dungeons, indefinitely.
C-Send him back to Donuk to falsely report his success.

By the sounds of things, the combined forces of the rebels outnumber yours considerably. Now might be a good time to call upon your vassal for aid.

A-Yes, we need all the help we can get.
B-No, we can't trust Yalanci to fight against his former comrades.

How else should we prepare for the coming invasion?

A-They won't expect us to strike first! We will march east and shatter them utterly.
B-We can hold them back at the river. Fortify the fords, and send scouts to report on their progress.
C-Stockpile food in the city, and prepare for a prolonged siege.

C, B, B. We send him back and we let him spread disinformation, and then we invalidate any potential treason he can provide by basically making Donuk's plan worthless by meeting his forces before they cross the river.

And no point in getting our vassal to fight; he still has ties and who knows, we dcould probably throw a bunch of prisoners who can't won't fight anymore his way.

The erstwhile assassin receives one million years dungeon.

You march your troops north (along the newly repaired roads) to the fords, the most likely place for the rebels to cross the river. Camp is established whilst scouts travel east to observe the enemy's movements.

You wait for a week before hearing anything noteworthy. Donuk has assembled a force nearly three times the size of yours, and is marching south, not north. Since the bridge to the south is broken, it is not clear what his intentions are. After discussing this with your commanders, you decide to

A-Stay here, by the fords. It may be a trick.
B-Return to Kralicanev, to be ready to meet Donuk wherever he crosses.
C-March south as well, waiting for Donuk's plan to be revealed.

Honestly this person has showed his disposition--albeit part of a die roll--in that he wants to live. He has crossed his rebel leader and we can USE HIM.

Now he's spending a spot in the dungeon. For what? As in what purpose can he be now? Hopefully for the future but I feel doubtful. :/

Also I'm betting he intended to repair that bridge and strike from an unaware position. :V It is IMPOSSIBLE that he would know our position even if inferred by the loss of his intelligence. Or possible the LACK of this intel makes him aware of this.

I'm unsure. He's not technically 'Wise'. He's a Martial commander.

This hard decision. :I I will need convincing details.

If it is not a trick

He may be going in the direction of a ally and going to get bigger. (So we should strike before or gather the troops and run?)

He may have repaired the bridge or constructed another that we don't know about, or is trying to repair the bridge with the troops, that means he will have a siege weapon that can't cross the river. (so we must screw this plan.)

He may think that he can attack from a direction that we don't expect. (so we can still surprise him and attack from behind when he get near our walls.)

If it is a trick.

Maybe he just want to make us leave our fortifications? what he intends to do? try to lure us into a trap? If we don't follow him he will come back upset that we didn't left our fortifications? Does he found us with his own scouts?

Maybe he just want to bypass our troops and attack the city unguarded.
