After a week of preparation, the assault begins. The defenders are vastly outnumbered, but the force multiplier of walls should not be underestimated.
3*
And indeed, they manage to hold on. Your troops manage to scale the walls in a few places, but the defenders are always there to strike them down. A very simple battering ram is deployed against the gate, which buckles but does not break. Fortunately, your casualties are not severe.

But eventually the cold hard numbers make themselves known, as there are always more of your forces, and always less of theirs. The gate breaks, and your heavy infantry advance into the town, inexorably pushing back the defenders.
8*
The defenders surrender when they realise their cause is lost, sparing you the trouble of street-to-street fighting and the potential casualties you could've still suffered.
The townsfolk huddle in their homes. The streets are empty but for your soldiers as you ride into town. In the center, you find another tower, and another synchronous crystal. The poorly-maintained log suggests they signalled for help as soon as your army was sighted. Though there is no record of a response, so you cannot be sure that help is coming. You nick the crystal, anyway. Now all you need is someone who knows how to rebind them.
That aside, the town is ripe for the plunder. What shall we do with it?
A-Loot everything, and burn it to the ground!
B-Loot most things, and leave.
C-Stay. Repair the gate, and let any reinforcements assault their own home.
And where shall we go next?
A-North.
B-East.
C-South.
D-Home.
E-Nowhere, we're staying put.
