You order the men to get into formation. They are somewhat slower to react than usual, but they follow your orders to the letter.
How should the lines be drawn?

A-Strong center, weak flanks. Heavy infantry flanked by footsoldiers, with cavalry ready to charge.
B-Balanced formation. Heavy infantry and footsoldiers together in one strong block, cavalry in a reactive stance.
C-Weak center, strong flanks. Footsoldiers flanked by heavy infantry and cavalry.

I don't like B. I think it is our worst option. We rolled a natural getting here, and we know our troops are exhausted. I don't think we are in a good position to win if we just play it safe. If we want to fight, Our best chance is to correctly guess if the knights plan to charge or flank us, and pick either A or C accordingly. We have heavy infantry, and they do not, so I don't imagine they pose much threat once the Knights are dealt with.

On one hand, knights want to charge. On the other hand, knights don't want to dash themselves against a wall of pikes. Since we caught them off guard, it is unlikely they have our forces scouted, so I'm going with A. I will change my vote to break any tie against picking B.

Hrm... Okay that begs the question; Do we have any archers?

So lets act as the strong part will win.

If we put a strong center and they flank us, the strong center will be... flanked and will have to split to crush.

If we put strong part as the flank and they decide to charge, the horses will be in the middle of the heat of the fight, being flanked by heavy infantry.

Neither of us did much scouting Inasmuch as 'are we more than them?!' means.
That and can't we send an envoy at this range? It's still very possible :O

Hrm... Okay that begs the question; Do we have any archers?

You do. In all cases they will deploy in front and harass the enemy, then fall back. Most likely the enemy archers will do the same, meaning the result is a wash. If either party had more archers than the other (or some other ranged advantage), then ranged tactics would come into play.

Anyway. If I allow conditional votes, C is winning at the moment. But it's pretty close, so I think I'll hold off updating till we get another vote or two (or many hours pass)

The rebels advance confidently, forces split across the two flanks- with the center held by the traitor knights, who after shouting a few insults your way, unleash their thunderous charge strait into the middle of your formation. The exhausted troops can barely hold their ground, their flimsy spears deflecting harmlessly off of the knights' armour. They suffer heavy casualties.
Meanwhile, the brunt of the rebel army crashes into your heavy infantry. On the right, they manage to encircle your forces, sowing confusion and causing the flank to collapse. Only the solid armour of your heavy infantry prevents mass casualties. On the left, by contrast, they are prevented from encircling by the river, and find themselves facing an impenetrable shield wall. Once the momentum of their charge is spent, your forces strike back, inflicting mass casualties on the rebels.

With the left flank in tatters, and the center on the brink of collapse, you must act in order to retain any chance of victory. Obviously you order the right flank to turn and support the center, but what shall the cavalry do?

A-Reinforce the center alongside the right flank.
B-Charge into the left flank, giving the forces there a chance to recover.
C-Hang back for now, perhaps in preparation to cover a retreat.

And what about you?

A-Charge into the central flank alongside your personal bodyguard.
B-Charge into the left flank alongside your personal bodyguard.
C-Shout words of encouragement whilst hanging back to continue overseeing the battle.
D-Prepare to retreat.
