"Heat... sucks." Esther mutters. "I'd take off the cloak but then it'd get all sandy and it takes too long anyway..."

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

Sharne quietly dampened a cloth from her pouch and handed it over to Esther with a smile, indicating that she should tie it around her head like Sam had.

As the group advances up the road, a man carrying a bow slides out from behind a hill off to the side of the road. "Ho there, travelers. We're in charge through here, and this is a toll road."

Yarun pulled his cart to a halt, to better address the man. "Ah. This must be a new policy. Very well, maintaining anything costs money. What is the rate for the toll?"

The armed man smiles toothily. "Everything but the clothes on your back should just about cover it."

"Uh. Oh dear." Yarun turned to those behind him. "No one panic, I believe we are being robbed."

Sharne looked at the man and laughed.

"Things have changed since I was last out here. It used to be raiders knew better than to challenge an armed group for fear they would be served the justice they deserve. Good to know they've only gotten stupider since I left. Back down now or you and whatever men you have hiding to back up your threats will die."

The man sneered. "We ain't stupid. Just armed." He raised his offhand to his mouth and let out a sharp whistle. Other armed thugs make their presence known, brandishing weapons and looking ready to pry other people's property from their fingers.
