"If that's what our plan is, fine."

"Assuming it hasn't been uncovered, we could use the black marketeers' farmhouse to hide.  Men like those move around often enough, so it should be empty.  Even if not, we could exchange information on what we know happened to the Millton resistance or throw them a few coins to keep quiet until we get Rina."

"But we shouldn't remain more than a day, in my view.  That gives us enough time to determine whether she's still in the area, whether free or in prison.  And if the latter, to see if we can make a plan to get her out.  Too much longer and we risk discovery."

Roux was quiet.
While she could no doubt get in contact with some of the bandit groups in Chilcinne... it probably wouldn't go well.

Kaldach nodded with a sigh.
: "Then it sounds like we have our plan. We should keep a loose formation as we make our way there."

Plan:  Everyone goes to Balkore.  Most of the party waits outside of town, probably at that farmhouse where we met the black marketeers.  Roux, Bert, and Martyn go into town to determine location/condition of Rina and pull her out without drawing any attention (as those three the most likely to be able to move without alerting anyone that anything's wrong), but going back and grabbing the others for an assault if it looks like that'll be necessary to rescue her.  Presumably the three will also pick up any other relevant news/information while in town.

(I think this is it)

Farra nodded in agreement, still checking her back but doing it less often.

~Chapter 2~
~Damp Ash~
Taking utmost caution in the wake of the deaths of the Millton rebels, the group returned quietly to Balkore, swinging around south to reuse the abandoned farmhouse where they'd celebrated the liberation of Izzarran taxes less than a week ago. From there, while the rest of the group waited, Roux, Bertholt, and Martyn went forth to the town proper, hoping to find Rina...

As the 3 approached town, a distinct smell like charcoal filled the air. The ground was still wet with mud, and the rain that had begun during their flight from the Millton area was back again, though much weaker. As they drew closer, Rina's inn came into view. It had clearly been destroyed by fire. Much of the building, in truth, still stood, but what little remained could best be described as rubble.

"Rhea help her...."
Bertholt looks around to make sure there isn't some sort of Mordo agent waiting in the bushes to rip them to shreds or something.

While there did not appear to be any soldiers lying in wait, there did appear to be more soldiers than usual patrolling in the street. One of whom was approaching the three.

This was bad.  And almost certainly not a coincidence.  Still, with the soldiers, they couldn't stand around and prove it.  And one was approaching...

"...Hell.  Bertholt, as we discussed.  You're a traveling priest, I'm your servant, Roux your guard."

The soldier came to a stop about five feet with the three rebels, leaning on his lance. "I don't know what business you have in this town, strangers, but you best move along. There's no store or public house anymore. Don't waste your daylight around here."

Bertholt nods politely.
"No public house or store? May I ask why, sir? Sorry if I'm bothering you, but travelling ministry does not lend itself to fast news."

The soldier started chewing on a hang nail on his pinkie. "Well, used to be a public house until about four days ago. Bitch who ran it was a terrorist though, so the captain ordered it burned to make an example. And of course there's nothing around here to sell, the whole country is a mud hole. Nothing to sell? No store."
