Martyn glanced towards the table, hesitating a moment before taking one of the offered chairs.

  "May I ask who this other guest is?"

Sam lowered herself into a chair, but remained poised on the edge of it. She wanted to be able to jump up and move on a moment's notice. Surprise mystery guests were almost never a good thing.

"An officer of little importance. His presence here will be largely ceremonial I expect, but there is a way that things are done. You understand, I'm sure, mister Taine."

: "...You said your help would be diplomatic?"
Kaldach, for his part, remained standing at the foot of the table. His hand continued to flex, albeit slowly and without ever completely balling into a fist, while his gaze continued to be focused on the conversation.

"That's correct. Unfortunately my finances are... Limited, as of late, and I am in no position to commit troops to your cause. However I have every intention of benefiting your cause in one manner or another. I think the most effective method would be to stop the flow of weapons and armor from my own nation to Mordo. Surely raising the cost to maintain their occupation force will cause strain in their homeland." The King watched Kaldach carefully, and his eyes rested on the Devil Sword he carried. "...You are Kaldach, correct? Would it be unreasonable of me to ask that you bring that sword you bear to me, that I may inspect it?"

The mercenary's eyes immediately narrowed and his hand suddenly fell still.
: "It might be. Do you know something about it?"

"I might, but I can't be sure. That's why I'm asking to take a look."

[CrimsonEon]

Kaldach's mouth twisted downward as he glanced back at the hilt of the Devil Sword. After a moment's deliberation, he walked until he was a good couple feet from the throne before pulling the sword- still sheathed- off his back, holding it in front of him yet out of the King's reach.
: "I can't let you handle the blade. It's not something that can be held safely."

"Ah, as I'd suspected. Very well, I won't ask you to draw it. Though I will say I am impressed, very few men have the courage to brandish such blades in this age."

[CrimsonEon]

: "So you do know about them. Devil Swords."
Kaldach swung the sheath of the sword onto his back again, tightening the strap until the rattling of the other swords on his back stopped.
: "Do you know much more? I've only had hearsay and my own time using these swords to go on."

"I doubt I know much more than anyone else on the subject. They're specially created weapons that house a violent will. I don't understand the process behind it myself."

Blah blah, evil sword that eats babies, blah blah.

"So iffn this officer is ceremonialous, 'ow come 'e ain't 'ere yet, and 'ow is 'e gonna 'elp in this talk?"

"Now, now, Roux, this might be important information. If nothing else, it might make it easier to attend to Kaldach's wounds. Or at least provide myself and Sharne with a reasonable idea of what to expect."

"The wounds these swords occasionally inflict on their wielders are no different in nature than those left by mundane weapons. So long as he doesn't kill himself outright, healing him should be no more difficult than normal."

: "If you say you don't know much, then fine, it spares me a lecture."
: "But you know enough to recognize it on sight, so I only need to ask one thing. Where'd you hear about them?"
