: "So I'm guessing this isn't how you wanted your day to go, huh? You didn't get the wagon, all your men are dead, and now you're all alone against a group you can't possibly kill. Not before your tome burns out and we finish ya off, anyway.

"Here's my suggestion: you take whoever you have left and take off. No more fighting for now. Figure out something else to do." The musician shrugged. "I've been a rebel for about three years now. Sometimes, when your plans don't work out, you just gotta know when to call it a day."

The man looks over at Sam, tome held high. "...Surely you can't be serious. You want me to turn and run? After you slaughtered my men to the last?"

"Us slaughterin' yer men to th' last seems like th' reason yer should turn an' run, don't it?"

: "All we wanted to do was protect the wagon. It was your men who continued to press the attack even when it was clear the wagon would get away, and we defended ourselves.

"Roux there has a point; you should have ordered your men to retreat long before they all died. If you ever want to make it up to them or their families, you need to leave now."

Gritting his teeth and obviously enraged, the man nonetheless begins to back away.

Sam wiped a sheen of sweat from her forehead after the enemy commander left. She'd been lucky in her self-imposed diplomat role, and if he hadn't been convinced she might have been the first one he'd target.

Martyn gave a sigh of relief, tucking away his knife before helping Bertholt back to his feet.  Things might've gotten a bit difficult, if they'd been forced to keep fighting that one, too.  Particularly with half of their cell as beaten down as they were.

He glanced over at the bard once the priest was back up, giving her a little nod.

  "You did a good job, Sam.  And made the right call talking him down.  Thank you."

Sam gave a shaky thumbs-up.

: "You're welcome. Someone else can do it next time, though; someone who can actually fight back if things go bad."

[Aliemma]

Farra slowly pulled herself to her feet after a few minutes, still somewhat unaware of what just happened. Being unconscious never helped in terms of hearing things, let alone making out that the battle was won. Her legs were still shaky, but she was able to stand. Clutching at her wound, she turned to Sam.

"...Wait, what? You were able to convince him to stop fighting?"

"Did he retreat, or is he being held by... Perferably not Brock... Someone?"

Kaldach slowly struggled to plant his sword firmly enough into the ground to lift himself up with. He could only barely get to his knees before clutching his head tightly, growling as he ignored the other wounds throughout his body.
: "Rrrgh..."

[Stirk]

Brock wipes the blood off his axe using any available nearby foliage.

"How is it that we run into bandits on every road we take? Sometimes if feels like they are hiding behind every blade of grass."

"That was.....disconcerting. I must commend you, Sam, for your quick words. That.....spared one more life. As little as it sounds."

Kaldach slowly wobbled back onto his feet as the healing got to his wounds. His posture seemed to improve gradually, but the grimace on his face did not. Switching swords to the ebony blade of the Devil Sword, he moved slowly towards the other side of the hills, where the Bandit Leader last was.
: "You're not getting away."

The remaining survivor had already turned and ran as the party turned their attention to treating their wounded. Kaldach had no hope of catching up to the man.

Roux huffed in annoyance as her invaluable contribution was utterly disregarded by everyone.

She shot an irritable glance at Kaldach as he dramatically heaved himself back to his feet.
"Yeah, 'e kinda already 'as, genius. See 'im gettin' smaller? That's 'im gettin' away."
