I've had several good area names.

First, I saw the Ocean of Waves. Very nice.
Then there was this entirely evil area called The Evil Swamp, which was a swamp covering a good quarter of the continent. Inside the gigantic swamp was a small (4 tiles across) bit of grass called the Leafy Sweet Plains of Love. Quite a combination there, eh?
On another world were two less pretty oceans. One had the intimidating name of The Willful Mighty Seas of Oblivion (I'd never EVER want to sail across something named like that), the other was...  um...  an Ocean of Hair. Really made me want to turn off my imagination.
On that same world, I stumbled across another interesting combination. Inside the Desert of Speaking was the Free Hill of Speech. My last adventurer in that world perished in an appropriately named "Cave of Oblivion".

Would you want to live in a fort called "Oblivionscarred" nestled at the mountains called "The dead peaks of hate" at the edge of a swamp dubbed "the swamp of loss"?

Whats the chance of getting 3 names like that in the same place?

Well, just watching the names in world gen is fun, like, "Strasp Slospu" The Planet of Omens, The Dune of Ancients, or The Last Golden Tower. Epic, yet innappropriate considering that it's a fort of gobbos.

Yeah, my personal favorites are, "The Last Golden Tower" "The Praries of Justice"
"The Dune of Ancients" "The Blizzards of Violence" And "The Bloody Steppes". Although,
"The Bridled Swamp of Clods" is a close second.

And this was all from one world, too. I'm very, very lucky.

The human civilization in my current game is named "The Fatal Prophecy", which would be intimidating if I didn't suspect it came from the fact that their caravan guards are ALWAYS brutally killed on their way to trade.

My fortress is named Paintstraps. The dwarven civilization that sent them is called Vabok Rungak, The Orb of Skunks.

That whole civilization needs to be banned from naming.

One of my old fort's parent civilization was called "The South Castle" How awesome is that?

(Much better than the name of our fort: "Wheelbow")

The Jungle of Confederation.

Reminds me of the stereotypical jungles in kiddy books, where the lion is king and they have meetings or something. Nothing about mosquitoes, by the way.

Not very awesome though, just wanted to mention it.

This is the same name as my current (50+ year old) world.  

Some cool starting area names I've had in worlds:
The Spine of Glimmers
The Spine of Mists
The Ivory Teeth

...and a lot of others that I can't remember or are only accessible through the Legends menu.
