Feud: A Text-Based Feudal Simulation Game
« on: March 10, 2017, 07:31:29 pm »

Hey, all you people! ;)

I've been developing a text-based management game called Feud (short for Feudalism), where you play at the start as an extremely minor noble in 13th century England, in control of from 250 to 2,500 acres of land (depending on your choice at the start of the game). As time progresses, you will attempt to gain more land and money, as your dynasty (yes, this is similar to CK2 in that when your character dies, you play as his or her heir) becomes more and more powerful. Eventually, I plan to make it so that your character can become the king of England (or possibly an emperor of an empire!)

The game will try to be as historically accurate as possible, as well as making it a fun experience for people to enjoy. Well, at least the Bay Watchers and the Paradoxians.

I do have some screenshots:

The creation screen. You can't save yet, though.

The main menu.

YORKSHIRE YORKSHIRE YORKSHIRE!!!! I demand it's immediate addition.

Looks very interesting though. My one suggestion - and it's a quite a strong suggestion- is to make sure that you display all the resources/main stuff (food stores, money, whatever else is pertinent) all the time. Depending on how you've programmed this, you either need to have this at the top of each screen or in a separate console (which is pretty easy to do in all languages).

WarsimRpg suffers from not having this, and as it gets more complicated/in depth it becomes more and more of an issue as you're needing to make strategic decisions without the information in front of you to do so. This looks as though it'll be even more strategic, so that information needs to be directly accessible to the player for them not to get frustrated.

With enough work and polish, it could have been a forgettable flash game on Kongregate.

Two different thoughts, near enough to both be first reactions:
Somewhat disappointed that there's no option for The Shire, as unreasonable as it would be to exist here. =D
Pence is too simple, need to display the currency in a form like £4-8-4d, as per http://projectbritain.com/moneyold.htm.

Definitely agree with needing more information visible at all times and, this may be showing me (relative lack of) age, but any consideration for colored ASCII?

What is my "forename"? I'm going to guess you are German (or Scandinavian)  ;D
It is a proper thing to say (apparently, according to Wikipedia) but 100% of English and American people would say "first name", "given name" or, you know, just "name".

Yeah, forename, Christian name or first name tend to be what I encounter day to day. Never heard anyone say 'given name'.
I saw given name on an application once.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

You can become king of England, but will you be able to invade France, like all true-blooded Englishmen strive to do deep within their hearts?
If I can't civilise the frogs, why even bother?

Yes, that is a planned feature, as a matter of fact. Also, another planned feature is that instead of usurping the already existing English throne, you can create your own.

If I can't civilise the frogs, why even bother?

Umm... I suppose frogs=French?

"In the English-speaking world, the dish is most often associated with French cuisine, hence the derogatory nickname for French people of the Frogs."

Had a quick play in Linux under Wine - thanks and looking forward to some fine dining.  ;)
