Faith shuddered visibly as the wave of killing intent rolled over her, clenching her teeth. It fucking sucked to feel, a wave of something that felt like pressure and not pressure at the same time, indescribably - something that built tension in the back of her head and behind her eyes, made her limbs want to twitch and run. This always felt godawful to feel - and that, at least, was probably her salvation. Her training in the Aethertide, merciless as it had often been, relied on instilling that feeling with her wherever she went, so she could at least mostly function, even if her heart and stomach clenched. "Man... hell..."

The mission had obviously gone to shit, at least in the way it was supposed to go. Whatever in the world Noriko and Minato had been fighting about and openly talking about their Godslayer careers about (and a thought in the back of her mind resolved to bitch them out for it later) had really lit things up. But... the bright side was that Hanzo hadn't been detonated. So she still... had a chance... to make it... happen. Taking a breath in, and a breath out, Faith stepped towards Hanzo. And another step, and another step. It felt like she was walking into a headwind. But... she knew why she was here, and she knew what she had to do, and she definitely knew that she wasn't going to just fall on the floor crying because something felt bad - not anymore - not again. And it did feel bad - it wasn't like she was freed from the feeling practically crushing her innards into a small, pulpy ball. But, god damn it, she was just going to have to act regardless.

So Faith let her magic senses guide her, moved her hands as if reeling a line in, and... began... to pull...

Faith gets a little closer and pulls any magical murder failsafes off of Hanzo! Spending a Resolve to make it happen!

Kouta

"S-Sorry about this, I'll bring it back!" Kouta shouted his apology as he slid into the driver's seat, sneaking in just as the man exited the vehicle fully. He slammed the door shut, then awkwardly fumbled at the vehicle as he tried to figure it out on the fly. "Probably. . ." He knew the general idea of how a car worked, but learning to drive hadn't exactly been at the top of either his or his sister's priorities. He did his best to take the vehicle out of park and floored it, attempting to swerve after the van.

People Who Probably Aren't Kouta
Screams echo through the club. Lights strobe; hearts pound. Somewhere on the dance floor two squads of Hunters regroup.

((Yuki spends 2 Resolve!))
Yuki closes her eyes and steadies her breath, focusing on her convictions. The air around her begins to calm. The world begins to seem less treacherous, the situation less hopeless. To her, and to Faith.

((Faith spends 1 Resolve!))
For Faith, the pressure seems to wane, the bloodlust begins to fade. Her determination remains all the same.

She sprints forwards across the length of the balcony Yuki in tow as they cross by Minato and Noriko, the other pair moving into cover as the boy bends low to the grab something near the fallen cake and shattered bottle.

But as she approaches Hanzo, the aura of calm seems to affect the Hunters too. One of them snaps out of their madness and realizing Faith's intent, lunges for the detonator.

((Minato spends no Resolve, because mama didn't raise no bitch.))
The cake knife pierces their palm, jamming it to floor mere millimeters away. Minato may not be transformed. Minato may not have his usual weapons. But he is still lethal with a blade. And here, fucked as the situation may be, depressing as it may sound he was in his element.

The Hunter recoils in pain, scrambling for its rifle. Too slow. Minato snatches a handgun from another Hunter, the fallen squad leader, points it to his foe's throat and pulls the trigger. An arcane bolt rips through the air, rips under the Hunter's helmet, and out through its paint-like flesh. Red and black staining the cushions behind it.

Snatching the detonator, he spins around Reinforcement magic spreading across the table as he kicks its base, and slamming the whole damn thing into the rest of the squad.

The force is too dispersed, his targets a bit too armored for the blow to kill. But he's pretty sure he broke something, and that's enough for him now as he rushes back to Noriko's side.

By now Faith has closed the distance. Hanzo is in view, well within range, and also curled up into a ball screaming along with the rest of his goons.

A portal opens up under him. There's a gunshot and a flash of light.

Okay, so now he's curled up into a ball, screaming, and naked. Extending her will, Faith reaches into his body and tears something out, the explosion spell she thinks, casting it over at the squad of Hunters Minato just brutalized.

Hanzo falls through a portal, his phone through another, a fancy fountain pen through a third.

The pen drops amidst the Hunter squad outside. The phone drops into a dumpster. If it wasn't a bomb they'll be wanting it later.

It is at this point that Yuki grabs Faith and dives to the side.

Imagine whale leaping out of a still sea. White water crashing upwards, waves and ripple radiating outwards. What happens is not dissimilar.

Blue-shifted space and psychedelic images. A wake like an explosion. Two Hyperspace Dopants crash onto the battlefield right where the pair were standing.

Yuki spins as she falls, eyes flashing red as she draws her gun. A teleportation arrow lunges upward, passing straight through one of her assailants.

It wasn't really there. Not yet. They weren't fully in-phase with reality. Able to harm, but not able to be harmed, not yet.

She waits as she falls, finger slipping towards the trigger. Watching as the aura that has enclosed this club spirals down into her chest, spirals down to fill her void.

In her enhanced sight, she see the presences fully solidify. Two shots ring out.

Two black arrows streaking from her Regalia, discharging into each Dopant. Sparks fly, armor rend. The pair are immediately thrown a backwards, chainsaw wounds tearing into their forms.

The less fortunate of the pair falls into her teleportation arrow, Yuki teleports to them, going from falling on her back to falling fist forward, driving a gauntleted fist into their head.

There's a metallic shriek as the helmet fails, as Yuki's fist crushes it, red and black spilling across the floor.

She turns to face its comrade. Waves ripple through the aura as she exerts her will.

"Mourir."

Hand struggling against its own will it complies, or at least tries to, drawing its combat knife and with shaking grasp forces it into its own throat. It's still alive, but its time is running out.

A voice rings through the team's ears.
"Shef, please modulate your aura. You're scaring your teammates. Evac will be arriving shortly."

Kouta
You drive into the car, slamming the door before the man can even react. You hit the ignition, pull the handbrake, fail, try again, fail, get it the third time, switch the car off park and gun the engine.

Oh wait no, that was the brakes.

Okay, now you gun the engines.

You haven't ever driven a car before, but you've seen people do it in movies, and you've done it before in video games. It can't be that different can-OH GOD YOU'RE GOING TO FUCKING DIE

The radio switches to its next track, and the chase, is on.

[Now Playing: Adrenaline]

You scream down the road (a tad more literally than planned) and find yourself quickly closing the gap to the van. Traffic is very light at this hour, rather fortunately because that's really the only reason you haven't crashed already given that you're swerving like crazy.

You see your quarry in intermittent bursts - you've fallen into a pattern of bobbing up and down, up so you can see where you're going, down so you can hit the accelerator again.

Noticing the erratically swerving car behind them (it's admittedly hard for them not to), the van begins speeding up and through the rear window you think you see one of the figures inside of it ready a rifle.

The gamble had paid off, or so the first few seconds had indicated. Quite a lot of screaming, which he immediately suppressed from his awareness. It was expected, and was absolutely unnecessary information at the current moment. Shef's presence provided that much needed information about what was going on upstairs, and it seemed like they'd kept the Hanzo from detonating. The timing though. Noriko, Yuki, and Faith were motionless for such a long time, could he have acted too early? Might they have been waiting for some opportune moment, that he'd ruined? Well, he could apologize later. They needed to get a goddamn move on.

But now, something shifted. A vacuum had appeared, something activated, and it was consuming him. A new and terrifying experience, as his usual requiem could simply be absorbed, taking him along with it. Shef steadied himself, the rate of absorbtion was significant, but not dangerous to himself right now, save in nearly blinding him to the area of the building of the utmost interest for the mission. Could he set off a detonation at that point? Embed the enchantment within his aura? Yes, that might work, just needed to get the location, got it, pour in the energy, done, and—wait. Weird. That was where Yuki was last standing wasn't it? A passive defense measure? Something else? Well damn it, he wasn't gonna risk hitting a teammate, whether it was her doing or just something on her position.

Shef, maintaining his aura, snapped a portal open beneath Hanzo, delivered the clothing rounds, and waited to confirm Faith's success in removing the enchantments, before dropping the naked man down a floor. The girl had been moving a little eratically and was rather pale. What had gone on up there? He began to portal the incapacitated Hanzo towards a wall, that one seemed close enough to the street, but far enough from the Hunter packs he knew of, when the AI's voice interrupted his thoughts.

Back into the teams comms, he replied incredulously, "Modulate? Wait, why? It's wo—SHIT." Of course that was it. Why everyone save Minato had nearly frozen for a moment. Why Faith had seemed shaken. How the hell had he not realized this obvious and glaring issue!? Immediately, he began clamping down on the aura. If he could, he'd reduce the effect only near his allies, but if that control was impossible, he'd stifle the pressure entirely. All he needed was information. Shit.

Yuki had to protect Faith - absolutely had to. She didn't care what happened to her, she'd use whatever options were open to her for it - including that weird void thing inside her. Which was how she ended up sucking in that murderous aura and was now making damn sure the Hyperspace-whatevers couldn't threaten her or Faith. "Ce n'était pas une suggestion, c'était une demande. Mourir." When had she learned French? That was weird. She'd been practicing English, had she took a wrong metaphysical turn? Also how could she turn it off? Also when did she learn to, uh, do whatever it was she was doing?

"Oh c'était toi Shef? Pourriez-vous résoudre ce problème?" Yuki said over the comms to Shef, before looking over to Faith to make certain she was ok.

(TL: "That wasn't a suggestion, it was a demand. Die." and "Oh, it was you Shef? Could you fix the problem?")

"It might maybe have been me, yes. He answered sheepishly. Wait, when did Yuki speak French? Shit, she was Faith's half sister, right, half french? No no no, Shef shook his head, almost chastising himself out loud for saying thinking something so stupid. Clearly she didn't know what was happening. Nor did he.

"Fix what, how? I don't what the hell's going on, or what you did!" He replied, with a great deal more indignity. And here he'd made an effort to not reveal his country of origin. What a disaster.

"Just like, speak Japanese again?"

"Le nuage de la mort, que pensais-tu que je voulais dire?" Yuki responded, more confused than annoyed. Just, scale back the death aura, what else could she be referring to? ...Although she was annoyed that that had come out in French and not Japanese like she meant it.

"Je veux mais ça sort juste en français. Je vais continuer à essayer?"

"Clearly I thought you meant the French. And yes, dealing with the aura thing, see? Got the message already!" He had already reduced the pressure right? Might have to just shut it down at this point. ". . .sorry about that though." God he should have thought this through more.

Team Clusterfuck
Okay so the feeling of imminent inescapable doom fades away. The screaming still continues though, as do the attempts by some of the Hunters to brutally butcher one another.

Minato, you're positioned in a booth with Noriko and a terrified group of huddling people. You have the detonator for the failsafes, one of which has been transferred to the squad of Hunters you've just brutalized.

If you push the button, all of them will die, but you'll likely blow a hole in the wall which could give other foes a bead inside the club. Also your suit ain't on.

Faith, Yuki, you're on the ground next to each other. The second Hyperspace Dopant has just wrenched the knife across their throat and died.

The supply closet kicks open and two new Dopants emerge. These ones are clad in what appears to be gothic architecture and armed with gatling guns lined with stained glass murals. They're aiming for the two of you.

Shef, you're on the ground floor. There are two Hunter squads on the dance floor who have now regrouped around their commanders, taller figures with more elaborate heavier armor. One squad moves to cover behind a bar. Two of them fire at you and Hanzo with their assault rifles, arcane bolts streaking towards you. Another aims a laser designator at you, a large magical circle tracing about you. Another aims with their underslung grenade launcher.

The other squad takes cover behind the DJ's booth. Four of them aim underslung grenade launchers. Two trying to lob their rounds at Faith and Yuki, two trying to lob their rounds at Minato and Noriko. Also one of them is using a laser designator to draw a circle above all four.

"Those circles will shower you with bullets. Killing the caster won't work, you'll need to take cover or disrupt the circle itself."

Shef, you also notice vines rushing in through the loading docks. They're growing just about everywhere but they're focusing on the VIP area trying to cover where your team is standing and where you are in one fell swoop.

1 Turn Until Evac.

Noriko

With the pressure fading, Noriko forced herself to un-curl and be useful. Things had gone to hell in a handbasket and then some, but that just meant she had to deal with it - and deal with it she would. An unnatural red flame sparked itself to life around her and lunged toward the circle being drawn about them, moving with what could only be described as hunger. A pair of broad-headed spears leapt out of the booth, snaking through the air to intercept the incoming grenades and carry them back to their sender - preferably delivering them to the chest cavity. Finally, Noriko herself burst upwards, slamming her spear through the ceiling above and flying into the open air with a spray of roof shrapnel, preparing to strike anyone who challenged her.

Alteration to 5.

Kouta

The boy yelped, more out of startlement than true fear. He was afraid, yes, but it found no grip on his soul. He bobbed downward, staying there for longer than he had been. He had an idea. It was a terrible one, reckless and stupid and almost as likely to get people killed as it was to help - but it was too late to back down now. The pedal hit the floor of the vehicle as Kouta continued to grapple with the steering wheel, trying to force it into the rear end of the van. At the instant before he thought he was due to strike, he let himself pop back up to guide it the last few feet to impact, hoping and praying that this would slow down the kidnappers and not hurt his friends.

Team Grand Theft Auto

[Now Playing: Adrenaline]

You duck slamming the accelerator as a burst of crimson bolts tear through your windscreen, showering you with glass and blasting holes in your backrest.

Well to be fair, you did say "probably". And you never said it would be in one piece.

You peak up and you see the gunner flip something up on their rifle. Now you were always more of a fan of Ring than those shooters with more modern day settings, but you're pretty sure that's underbarrel grenade launcher.

A tinge of fear chills your mind. Are you afraid? Yes. You're afraid of being stopped. Afraid of what will happen if you stop. Of what will become of your friends. You? You don't have time to even consider it. Besides you've got shielding.

You swerve, lining yourself up, precious seconds adding to the car's life, and then you absolutely floor it.

You only look up seconds before impact. Why are they so close? Why are their brake lights on? Oh. Oh no.

There's an absolutely deafening crash, a thundrous impact, and then the feel of flying. Oh you're flying alright, you're flying out car!

Your contingency charm kicks in, a crystalline barrier blunting the impact as your face meets the van's rear. Your charm has limited charge, but it should have enough to sustain shields and regen long enough for help to come. As an added bonus it dials the AIs for you no need for you to even dial.

Tyres shriek, catching the wet road. You don't even think about it, hands quickly finding purchase in the underside of the van.

You are now hanging on for dear life, getting dragged behind the van, your charm's barrier the only thing between you the unforgiving road.

"Oh dear."
"Calling active units. Get someone here ASAP!"

The back swings open underneath you and you find yourself face to face with one of the kidnappers, an armored figure veiled with a blue-shifted space and unreal visages. Well, not quite face to face - right now you're staring down the barrel of their shotgun. Behind the noise, the rev of the engine, the road rushing beneath you, you hear someone. You hear Michi yelling, shouting, struggling.

Even now your friends are fighting, in their own little way.

The thought fills you with determination.

There would be time to figure out what the hell Yuki was doing later. He couldn't sustain this output, it was consuming, draining. He had to stop, and in doing so, lose his information. Before that, Shef needed to make some call outs. ". . .Enemy vines coming from loading dock. Squad leaders. The leaders are a priority." His voice was ragged, when had he run out of breath?

Should he stand and fight the group entrenched behind the bar? No, no he had Hanzo with him, and even a single stray bullet might spell failure. Flee, and delay until evac arrived, that was what Shef had to do. A series of connected portals behind him, erratically jumping back , through the walls of the club, and then perpendicular, to keep the Hunters from getting any lucky shot through the wall. He leaped through, yanking the limp naked man with him. If the magic circle has followed them, Shef will prioritize using portals to surround and protect Hanzo, only sparing some for himself if it seems feasible.

Deactivate Intensify. Room to Breathe[4], and standard portal shields to keep Hanzo not dead.

Kouta

Despite being filled with a sudden will he'd never quite felt before - or, not for anything more than brief flashes - Kouta had little desire to take a shotgun blast to the face. Of course, that didn't mean he had to retreat. The boy snatched at the barrel, trying to force a decision: maintain grip and let him pull himself aboard, or stop him by letting the weapon go.

"That was SHEF?! What the hell, dude, when did you start being able to do that?! That was-" Faith paused briefly to, with a wave of her hand, detonate the magic failsafes that she'd torn off of Hanzo, ideally blowing the enemies around it to little magical smithereens - that'd be a good way to start the battle. "Actually, it did save the mission, so I can't be too mad at it." Faith sighed briefly, and then her face grew grim and serious as she looked out at their enemies - she didn't know what the hell was going on with Yuki and speaking French, but there was a lot to deal with anyway. "Gotta get some of these assholes gone - let's see how they like a little bit of THIS!" Faith wound up like a (poor) baseball pitcher, and...

A purple and pink convulsing ball of volatile energy flew off of the balcony and was guided dead into the middle of one of the squads of Hunters, where it promptly exploded, Faith using both hands and full focus in order to ensure the blast didn't go anywhere beyond exactly where it was supposed to.

Faith detonates the magical failsafes and then whirls before yeeting an irradiated Furious Fire right into Hunter Squad B (blowing a Resolve as this is a Resolve Hyper!) Alteration to a 6!

Ya boi Kouta

[Now Playing: Adrenaline]

Where others may see a threat, you see an opportunity. A shotgun pointed at your head? Leverage.

You release your grip and sieze your chance with both hands, leaning upwards to drag your assailant down. Not too keen on getting dragged off the van they release their grip, giving you control of the shotgun as they dive for cover and you fall back onto the waiting road.

Swinging the weapon around you kick upwards, your shoe's toe hooking underneath the van's bumper and keeping you trailing behind it, cradling your prize

"You won't have enough output to fight them with that. But they don't know that. Just don't shoot at them."

You've earned  yourself some reprieve. The kidnappers don't seem too keen to line themselves in front of their own weapon so no one's trying to shoot you right now. You suspect that will change shortly.

It shouldn't be impossible to drag yourself towards the back of the van and try climbing on it again. Alternatively maybe just maybe you could try dragging your way under it and up into the front? Lastly Enn said that the gun can't hurt the kidnappers, but maybe it could pop the tyes?
