A terrible visage of green dragon fire appears before you. The flames form into the image of the ancient dragon Roboson. It speaks thus: Young dragon! Your strength and cunning have not gone unnoticed. Your time has come to prove yourself against the only worthy opponents this world has to offer... OUR OWN KIND! Bahahahaha! If you are unafraid of this challenge, complete the ritual and join your brethren in Xorvintaal!
Q: Ok, so what is Xorvintaal?
A: Xorvintaal is a giant game that dragons play in order to determine status and prestige among themselves. its an immense game of strategy with mortals as the pieces. Manipulating heros and civilizations to achieve goals, you earn points. The dragon with the most points is the most revered and respected dragon in all the land.
Q: Who are the players?
A: Dragons! In ages past dragons simply fought to the death to prove superiority, but as the ages past dragons were killing each other faster than they were reproducing. It seemed dragons would drive themselves to extinction. However, Xorvintaal was invented as a way to prevent direct conflict between dragons and to determine the draconian heirarchy.
Q: Who are the pieces?
A: Literally everything else. Heros, governments, mages, monsters, gods, demons, and everything else in the world is a fair weapon on the battlefield. Anything you can manipulate into doing your bidding is allowed. Side note: some powerful beings, like demons, sphinxes, and lesser gods, may acquire enough points to land themselves on the hierarchy (even if they don't know the rules of the game). Having a lower score than a nondragon is a terrible embarrassment. Furthermore, players may elevate certain pieces and give them additional powers. These heros are of great importance to the game.
Q: What are the rules:
A: The rules are incredibly complex, arbitrary, and take almost a decade to read. Most dragons don't know all the rules, in fact it's unlikely any of them know every single one. The game is mostly moderated by an older dragon who doesn't play anymore. That dragon settles disputes, keeps score, and moderates the game as closely to the spirit of the rules as one can.
Q: So if the rules are not really there, how do I get points?
A: Players will be given points for taking a variety of actions and achieving both longstanding and temporary goals. (I'll write out the main ones later if there's enough interest). Successfully defending your hoards, successfully attacking enemy hoards, and defeating great beasts, starting wars, all of these can get you points. Points will be awarded by the moderator, who can also award bonus points for particularly cunning or ingenious strategies. Really his job is to just give you points.
Q: Alright, I'm interested, what now?
A: Post bellow. If there seems to be enough interest I'll write up some real rules. Also please post the kind (species) of dragon you'd like to be and what biome you'd like your starting lair to be in.
