C, we can not eat gold, and neither can they.  Everywhere has had difficulty with food, that is probably why they have been seizing our shipments.  They should starve quickly.

Time to siege Luthbas, get that food to our peasants and use the opportunity to take back the former capital.

You swing your Army westwards to relieve teh besieged garrison.

In less than a week, your forces approach the mines. The scouts report that the attackers are now numbering about six hundred. Your officers say you have nothing to fear of such a small force, and you attack head on!

In less than an hour, it is over!

The enemy scouts failed in their job as your men, much to Luthians' surprise, attacked their camps out of nowhere and soon the invaders were either getting slaughtered or fleeing for their lives. You lose about two dozen men in the skirmish.

You leave few hundred with the mines' garrison, and your officers ask - where next?

A) Nowhere; we shall camp here and sends scouts to gather intel.
B) To besiege nearest Luthian city-states, of which there are two.
C) Deep into the heart of Luthian Alliance, to wreak havoc upon them!

Then we're not trying hard enough.
Lets not head deep into enemy territory, leaving our supply lines exposed. We should take them down city by city. And every city we take means that city's troops are no longer fighting us- victory shall breed victory.

We can't just starve them. They have our food. Our troops must KNOW that they stole the food that would go to their family and friends.

best case scenario, the currently besieged city state splits of their forces to protect their home, and we pick then off one by one. Seeing as they are an alliance, their interests are not quite so united as our own.

You march toward nearest two Luthian cities.

971 AD, Late Winter

The siege has begun! Your Army has been split in two to besiege both cities simultaneously; after all, there's less than a day of travel on foot between them (even less so on horse).

A messenger arrives from Queen of Lametania; she had ordered her cavalry to raid the Luthian countryside near and around the Felonsein forest and few smaller settlements were (re)captured from the Alliance, but she is wary to send anything more because she prefers to keep her forces at the western and southern borders of her country at the moment.

Mere three days before end of the year, a messenger from the western city arrives to negotiate with you.

A) Naw, let's stress them out a while longer first.
B) Splendid! The less time we spend on sieges, the better.
