Stockpiling it doesn't mean it disappears. If things look bad, we can always sell off whatever we have in the stockpile. If we don't stockpile, then we can't even potentially get a long term benefit.

Note that this does mean our income is probably going to be negative this year- we really really can't afford any frivolous spending.

What's wrong with copper? People pay good money for copper. You could sell that copper and buy yourself some gems. Do the Kashites not understand trade?

We don't have a reliable source of gold. We can't exactly only pay them once every two years. So, no deal, unfortunately.
