However this time the garrison was up to the task and routed the attackers.

Few days later, you receive an unusual report; strange lights were sighted in the hills south of the capital. They are blue and red and yellow, and they appear only at night. They move very fast and often, after moving in straight line, quickly change direction and fly into the sky or blink out of existence.

Scorch marks and burnt vegetation was seen on the site of the lights during the day.

A) Clearly this is some supernatural force invading us. Let's call for a Wizard!
B) Clearly this is some bunch of tricksters. Have the local governor send guard patrols to catch them!
C) Clearly it is time to concentrate on something more important than *this*?

The guards fail to discover the source of the strange lights, and after three weeks the lights cease to show up.
