Choosing the first C feels like it would deplete our resources and nullify the purpose of the "adventure". B or A can still provide protection while still allowing him to grow and learn. Also less of a target.

Also he's a caravan. Can't make a caravan without some good supplies. Besides, it'll be like...1 point in our economy, I bet.

But you've a good point for "B". "A" is also very good as it emphasizes the loyalest and skilled...
