Neet Idea, build your entire fort inside an impentrable wall with no entrance, and transport dwarves over it by launching them with bridges.

I think I read something about mechanism quality effects flingify accuracy and range.  You'll have to keep that in mind too.

Yeah but if you have somthing like this...

code:

=
=
=
=
=
0

| wall
= bridge
0 dwarf

The bridge is between those two walls. the dwarf should have only one direction to go to...forward.. but this wont work. A dwarf wearing armor will fly shorter than a dwarf wearing silk. So unless the landing area is a huge pool the dwarf will probly splat onto the ground.

These dwarves wouldn't wear armor because they'd be inaccessible by enemies.

Except giant eagles, but too bad then.

Wow, so much discussion about my idea  :D About the items though, I was wondering if items got flung as well, and if so then the food and stuff made by one dwarf could be dumped onto the bridge then flung to the other dwarf in need... If so, then no need for each individual dwarf to be a jack-of-all-trades.
