is there a faster way to input advanced parameters?
« on: February 26, 2017, 01:15:07 pm »

so im messing around with the parameters to try and generate an ideal world and it can get REALLY annoying to have to change the settings by pressing a button 750 times (like to change end year from its default 1050 to my desired 300)

is there any faster way to do this than spamming 4 and left arrow?
note that i have dfhack so if there is some way to do it with that i can try it

I assume you're referring to using the advanced world gen menus and then go into parameters that way?
If so, yes, that's a pain I go through only very occasionally. The way I do it (and I think most people involved in that kind of tweaking) is to copy a suitable profile in <DF>\data\init\world_gen.txt, paste it at the beginning or end of the file, rename it, and tweak the parameters as desired. The file is read when you enter the world gen (or possibly the advanced one), so you can keep the file open, tweak, save, generate, back out, tweak, save, generate...

And I quote from the advanced world gen itself: "Enter: Type Value".

In other words: press the enter key while the selector is over the value you wish to change, then type the value you want into the field.  There are limitations on the values that can be entered but it has always worked for me.

As an aside, you may wish to take the time needed to learn the final step; editing the World Gen config file directly.  This allows you to save your favorite parameters for mixing and using later, which is a huge time saver.

Agree with you, but would point out that Advanced world gen allows you to save your changes and make various profiles.
