Work on a potential forum game for my return to Bay12. Figure out parts that puzzled me before. Find more things to figure out that I can't. Work on another game instead of solving them. Get distracted and stop working. Remember it a week or two later. Remember I'm still on hiatus. Illogically, Be too ashamed to return yet. Repeat ad nauseam.

Finally have a game completely ready. Wait a week before posting it out of laziness.

Stat suggestions are whatever you want. It's easily possible to have a potency shield, or an agility shield, even a precision shield. It depends on how you want the character to play, not what the item in question would actually need.

I have to admit I'm pretty unsure what the mechanical differences are likely to be in these cases though so it's hard/impossible to make an informed decision. Unless they are likely to all be roughly the same, and rather it's based purely on what stats I want to use for combat? Which would imply that I should minmax for the stats I think are going to be the most useful?

Err... Perhaps this is one of those thing that I've had in my head to much to explain well.

In the mechanic revamp, EVERY item grants abilities. The attribute scores that an item requires govern what kind of an ability it gets, and what kind of charges it can possibly consume. There are some secondary effects here as well (Agility Armors are likely to have lower thresholds, Will armors better reduction, Potency weapons have better damage, etc), but I'm loathe to put actual hard numbers on them

Lets take, as an an Example, your Axe.

Potency is a pretty easy draw, and you've got 3 points, so that's good. Potency is the skill of powerful blows, and doesn't really care for much otherwise.

Vanguard's dane axe (Req: Pot 3 | L:2 | H:4 | Dam:4-10 | DR:5/4 | Ability: War Cry)

War Cry: 1 Frame, no Cooldown. Costs 3 Potency Charges. Has a 50% chance to stagger all adjacent enemies. Increases your max and min damage by 2 for ten frames.

Now let's look at vigor, the skill of enduring damage rather than preventing it. I'll pop one off the max damage, since I'm a bastard who thinks that a vigor weapon sholdn't be quite as nice as a potency one in terms of damage.

Vanguard's dane axe (Req: Vig 3 | L:2 | H:4 | Dam:4-9 | DR:5/4 | Ability: Glory of Battle )

Glory of Battle: No Frame cost, 15 frame Cooldown. Costs 2 Vigor Charges. For five frames, you no longer lose hope when struck, and each successful blow has a 50% chance to grant 2 hope instead of 1.

Now, your character also has a will score, so what if you wanted a Potency/Will axe?

Vanguard's dane axe (Req: Pot 3, Wil 2 | L:2 | H:4 | Dam:4-10 | DR:3/4 | Ability: Red-Haze)

Red-Haze: Frame cost as light/heavy attack, No Cooldown. Costs 1 potency + 1 will charge. Add this to any light or heavy attack to gain a damage reduction pool equal to the attack's damage for five frames, including the starting frame.

What about a straight will axe?

Vanguard's dane axe (Req: Wil 2 | L:2 | H:4 | Dam:3-9 | DR:3/4 | Ability: Oath of Steel )

Oath of Steel:  Frame cost -, Cooldown 5. Costs 1 will charge. If you miss an attack this round, count that as block action using the axe. This cannot make a timed block.

Does that help?

Yeah, that helps somewhat. I get the basic idea here. It still seems very... Opaque for what one should get since the abilities don't seem predictable. Ultimately I sorta get the idea behind it now but there's still a struggle with the actual picking of abilities.

I went back and edited in my desired stats then, and also swapped a point of vigor to will because. Well, it seemed like the thing to do.

Again, it's a choice between doing this or exhaustive lists of abilities that get tagged on to items willy nilly.

Bah, I'm a bit tired at the moment and probably not explaining well. Hopefully this will work out.

No no, I understand that trying to predefine everything would be a terrible idea. I just wanted to clarify I although I understood the system and it's probably the best way to do it that I was just that there is going to be some confusion since picking the attributes for items is essentially a game of mindreading right now, which, once again is perfectly fine and a good way to do it, just figured that some confusion is probably to be expected and that's why I was a bit hesitant about my choices. This is almost certainly the right way to go about it, I'm just a hesitant sorta guy really.

I think this is going to work out fine.

...picking the attributes for items is essentially a game of mindreading right now...

This is true.

I'm fairly certain I've created a game where mindreading is the principal key to victory.

Will work on the others in a bit. I had fun coming up with ways to add nuance to some of the abilities.

What's the range on the center of shockwave, wouldn't I be hitting myself with it? And allies I guess? That seems. Idk, I'm totally willing to give it a go in game to see how it turns out, but the costs of 5 frames and 3 potency for a relatively small aoe light attack seems a lot. I mean, with 5 frames and 3 potency I can do two heavy attacks can't I?

Other then that, looks cool. I like the idea of combo abilities, can the follow through on defiance be used with weapons other then the shield?
Also now that abilities are tied to equipment in general, how do abilities work, can I use red haze with the raven shield? Or, more pertinently, with some other weapon ripped from the corpse of a boss at some point. Stone Bones in particular is a pretty cool agony, being a fairly huge penality but with an upside as well.

The center of the shockwave is you, always. So, the first shockwave hits everyone around you, the second hits everyone at range 1-2, then the third everyone at 1-3, and the final fourth hits everyone at 1-4. For perspective, you're hitting everyone in Miles' original range Simultaneously.

Granted, it takes a while to get there, but it would look cool and scales with your weapon damage.

Hmm... If you're off handing the axe, I'd say you can use red haze with your alternate weapon. Which reminds me, I need to discuss hands... Essentially you can have 2 'weapons' (That label counts shields) equipped at once. Exceptions being for twin weapons and various mandatory two-handed weapons.

The follow through with the raven shield can be used with any other attack. You can totally shield bash your foe to the ground and Axe them in the chest when they're down.

How did you lose them? Did they just disappear one day? One thing you could try is to use the windows search function and try to perform a thorough search.

I remember once having the shortcuts to my own personal pictures deleted one day, I tried using the regular search function that appears when you open the start menu but it couldn't find them. Eventually I found a different search function that took a lot longer, but it eventually found them. They were in some sort of directoryless limbo which was why the original search function failed, but the more thorough search function was able to find them. It's worth a try at least.
