instead of using dfhack to change orientation you can just add the [ORIENTATION] tag to make a species always be hetrosexual.

for females do
           [ORIENTATION:MALE:0:50:100]
            [ORIENTATION:FEMALE:100:0:0]

for males do
                [ORIENTATION:MALE:100:0:0]
           [ORIENTATION:FEMALE:0:50:100]

that guarantees that everyone will be straight and 50% will be interested in marriage, change the 50 to 100 to guarantee they will want to marry.
note: i use the above tags to make it more easy to get breeding pairs but ive noticed that when i use those values i end up with a large number of children migrants
this change will effect worlds already made, but you have to edit the raws in the world save rather than the main raws

Where, exactly, do I add in these tags? They are fascinating, I'd like to use them.

I'm actually amazed you managed to get a egg layer citizen to hatch eggs. Last I heard this was bugged, that was several versions ago though.

Maybe now I can make my lizardman civ a reality? That would be neat.

So your saying I could make a huge Grizzly bear mountain home? This changes everything.

So how many female vs males do you need to avoid, uhh, too much incest? if you want a final population of lets say 50?

You need 2 breeding pairs to maintain a sustainable population.

@Thisfoxx: I'd guess in the creature raws (creature_standard.txt for dwarves). I'd check with wiki to be sure.

@Ggobs: tbh I don't expect much to watch when OP's last post could have borne a child in that time.

This is great.

It'd probably be a good idea to mod in sets of weapons for each of the common creature sizes.

Given that DF has marriage for life and is very unhumanlike in that they're also faithful, the ideal ratio of reproductive gender members is 1:1 (reproductive = sexual orientation such that they're willing to marry the opposite gender without views blocking marriage, such as e.g. hating the thought of a family). DF doesn't model inbreeding, so Fleeting Frames' two pairs is sufficient (though I want 3), as stated. I think I've seen figures of about 200 for real life humans to provide a sufficient gene pool to stave off serious inbreeding.

I made a civ of bear/dwarf hybrids once.

It's up on the mod forum somewhere.

Wait, I can't quite picture this.

Is it a bear with a dwarf's head and bearded, walking on all fours on occasion?

Or is a bi-ped, short, stout, sturdy dwarf body with a head of a bear, and beaded?

Clawed, with grasping for mining, I assume.

Or is it more like a centaur structure?  quadraped bear body, with upper torso of a dwarf with arms and head?
