(Make sure my antivenin is within reach, if we're going to need it, and see about unpacking and wielding my warhammer.)

Take a flank on this breakout, whichever side has the exit not currently being charged against. (Salt cavern to the west, water cavern to the south, yes?) Keep pace, and keep my eyes open, but let the others work out how far/fast we're going and in what sort of direction.

Hee hee!  Sounds like a bunch of conflicting efforts to roll.  I'm sure it will turn out alright in the end.

Just waiting on Alyssa (Rautherdir).  And, well, my own free time; I seem to be much busier now than before.

Okay, I'll see if that works or conflicts with Tohil (randomgenericusername)'s interest in a wild charge.  That will mean rolls.

Speaking of which . . . randomgenericusername, when you intended to lead people "towards the enemy," were you intending to go south (because that's where everyone was looking) or west (because, well, I don't know, but I needed to ask)?

The direction we didn't came from, of course. Since there are two exits and we're west, then that means the enemy is south, right?

My take: We (us and the others) have pushed the barrows in from the arrowed East.

The well, we are told, is to the south, down the incline. Old workings, now utterly devoid of salt (mainly because a salt-water well is a strange thing, so the remaining local geography/geology must have been conducive to the separation), and our fellow warriors are anticipating the enemy to be there. But there must also be activity around the salt-licks in the current salt-mining area that would likely be off to the west.

But I'm taking my cues from everyone else, until I know enoigh to do otherwise.

Oh, I didn't really notice there are actually 3 (2 if we're not going back.) ways we can go. Ooops.

I'm not really sure which way we should go, actually.

Can I just go in the direction we're supossed to go instead of specifying the direction? I would assume the rest of the soldiers know, and I would be leading the offensive group charge but not actually guiding them as they are still the ones who know in which direction to go. More than going front and directing everyone, I was thinking of doing something to cause the soldiers to start marching with higher morale.

(I meant to say that the old/new split/differentiation could be both off south, beyond both the slope and vision. There seems to be salty-wall still on that edge. But there is fading-floor in that other direction.)

With your IC/OOC presumptions and the description of where the other mercs are bothered about, as I'm determined to take the flank, I'll probably get the best look that that westerly lobe on behalf of the rest of you, in case there's anything to be seen, while everyone rushes/restrains from rushing southwards.

(Ah, didn't notice Tohil would be leading the charge south, thought it would be west where I think our actual goal is.)

If Tohil is successful in leading a charge towards the well, check out the west area instead.

Whoops!  I thought that the "notify" button would help me here.  I see I missed your answers.  Now noted!

Again, it will come down to some rolls (as the team doctor is trying to restrain a mad charge), but it looks like one fanatical vote for south and two more cautious votes for west.  If Alyssa (Rautherdir) intends to go without a lantern out (as stated), I'll presume that Dwain (Starver) stays slightly behind to avoid spoiling with light.

And that's all the picky details worked out; I'll get the vast cosmic horror (double checking with notes) I mean a bunch of wild monsters going soon.

I can do that, but as I was going to keep an eye on the flank of the main advance (or otherwise) I was also initially wondering whether I needed my own light (and presuming that I'd not be passed) but let it pass at the time.

I'll go unlit myself, to avoid penalising my fellow perpendicularite-of-attention, but still not try to outcompete the adventurousness. Make it a two-person flanking wall, so long as we (and especially me) aren't in danger of being totally left behind by the group's pool of light. (Pull into a rear-watching position if that happens, though that'd only be if the whole mercenary force suddenly charged, which I don't get the impresssion will happen...  probably!)

Okay, got it.  I'm drawing the map now, and it's a lot easier if I don't have to think about your light radius.

There are two things in the air.  One is the sharp dryness of salt, moved day after day after day.  The other is anticipation.

Tohil sweeps to the front of the southbound group.  The last few days have brought great uncertainty, but you are sure of your sword arm.  Or, to be more accurate, axe arms.  As you speak, you hold aloft your roaring axe; a tool with as much menace as practicality!  Sure inspiration!

Meanwhile, your associates are less-than-sure about this plan.  John is waiting for Solde to say something; at a glance, the latter is merely standing by the wheelbarrows, folding his arms and watching this development.  Alyssa has put away all light sources and begun a careful approach to the west; Dwain is doing the same, but several steps behind and in sight of both directions.

Dustan is ready to restore order, even if it means restraining another "numbskull."  Tohil has the mood of the swordsfolk!  You try to stop them, but it looks like no one is listening to you, and Tohil is already out of reach with both Gary and the hastening mob.  Down the slope they go!




(I thought it might look better with the z-levels displayed separately when there's a steep slope.  (Especially when I want to do more complicated tunneling in the future.)  Hopefully the variable shading makes all the ups and downs clear.)

This pit has been carved straight down to the bottom, with no more rock salt beyond small grains being wiped away by time and foot traffic.  Occasional splashes of blood (human or animal?) reveal you are on the right track.

And what is that?  The salty dusting ends before a vertical shale wall, where, at best guess, the miners must have kept digging in hopes that there was more to find.  Instead there is a dark hole which could be the "emergency well."  It's hard to see at this distance.

Alyssa and Dwain, seeing no other routes or branches to the south, explore a short distance west.  Alyssa notes that the tunnel wall continues westerly, but you feel a light air current from the north; perhaps it branches.  Dwain notes that the others' dramatics are echoing over here; if any creatures are nearby, noise like this will alert them soon enough.


. . . I could have handled a quiet investigation into the hidden.  But, in light of events, I flipped things around.  Now to see if anyone guesses what I'm hiding, or if I get to have fun with more rolls.
