I'll have a shufti

(British!  You're British!)
(Either that or Egyptian Arabic!)

((But fair dinkum, cobber. It's kiff and lekker that you now know where I'm aboot, eh, though it'd be crack up if everything I said were pakaru. Still, even if I am flying it for the craic, y'all have a nice day now, duck...))

((Argh, does anybody have an English-to-English dictionary?))

Set my backpack down by the wheelbarrows, swapping my pick and sword for the sling and knife. Then turn off my lantern and hunt for food near/in the southeastern passageway

(I'll be putting my lantern on my belt as well, I'll be wielding the knife and javelin for now.)

Aheh. Noop. Bob goes back the way he came. Back to Dustan. While looking for any loose rocks on the ground he could carve into a mug.
no. No mugs for you, sir. I wont have that part of dwarf fortress bleeding in.

For both of these, I tend to let people tell me sumptin' and then I give 'em the results even if they don't like it.  But Alyssa (Rautherdir): I believe we've established that these lanterns aren't the sort of thing you could put on your belt.  I've let people put a bizarre number of weights "on belt," but here I'd say that light sources either need to be held in-hand or packed away: they're too big, not designed comfortably, what-have-you.

And after any adjustments that come from that, I need only Gary (Coolrune206).  Sure, sure, mining; but could use the check-in.

. . . Yeah, I think I'll just assume Gary (Coolrune206) keeps on mining and go to work on that update.

Also, Alyssa (Rautherdir), you said "sling and knife" at one point and then "knife and javelin" at another.  Given damage output, I'll run with the latter as your likely intention.

((Since my inventory is full, I would like to see if Bob (magmaholic) would like to exchange his surface kit for one of my bindstone rocks. If he doesn't want to, I can hand the mushrooms to anyone who has space.))

Previous -- Next

The question of making a trade is up to you.  However, I would recommend reading this update first . . .

That's quite enough with the standing jellyfish.  Ugly corpse-thing.  Truth be told, its state of advanced decrepitude is probably not all due to rot: it may have been chewed on at some point before the mushrooms got at it.  Tohil and Bob split, the latter to get creative, the former to get grisly.

Tohil approaches the blood puddle and pokes the weird mushroom with a dagger.  There is a distressing pofff as its three chambers split open and a burst of spores covers your face and arms!  Your muscles sieze!  Not again.  This is worse than the rock hydra, and the shock of it sends you to the ground.

Tohil now has -6 to the next damage roll in combat!

Louis, likewise walking headfirst into danger, leaves John's warnings unheeded and keeps going into the foul-smelling air.  Your lantern spits, sparks, flares . . .

. . . and explodes.

Thoooooom.  It could have been worse, but not by much: for a moment you are surrounded by a fireball as the horrid gas burns itself out.  Dwain, listening carefully for underground phenomena, finds that the noise of your conflagration wholly prevents proper investigation.  Rude.

Amazingly, you're still alive when it ends.  Catching your breath (which brings its own dreadful sensations, mind you), you note that the brilliant light illuminated another deep tunnel into the shale.  Totally worth it . . .

Alyssa, in the far end of the cave system, hears the noise too and is caught off-guard by it.  You had been straining your senses to pick up scratches and shuffles of hidden creatures, your lantern now out and the only available light being the distant reflections from where Gary still works.  But with that noise, bonk, you bang your knee against the wall.  And if the sound startled any creatures into movement other than human ones, you were too distracted to catch them, grumble grumble.

And just to round out the tale of disappointment, Bob, who has no idea that Tohil has collapsed in a heap behind him, is unable to find a piece of shale a good size and shape to carve into a mug.  We all feel the pain.

That was a particularly failure-filled round.  At least it was funny!  To me.

Tohil (randomgenericusername): I depicted you as prone on the map, but you can get up and do things freely.

Louis (dustywayfarer): Yep, you're alive.  I'm being nice and saying that only the lantern is destroyed: clothing and backpack are "damaged," but they don't really use quality levels (unlike proper armor), so for now the primary loss is resale value.

Well, I suspect that I realise there's someone (or -thing) at the core of that explosion I heard. Abandon my already-suspected futile plans and rush down to deal with the outcome.

Tohil, feeling the heat and light from the fireball, quickly rushes to Louis and starts praising the Sun.
"Glorious flame!  A blessing from above! The Incandescent One has smiled upon us and has shown the right path for the group!"
He then starts praying and chanting even more fervently than before.
"Umbasa... Umbasa... Umbasa..."

Oh, you people . . .

Although, come to think of it, would that make sense?  You're the one dealing with a sudden attack of paralysis.  Perhaps I could see you staggering over to check on the explosion but missing the whole show 'cause the spores made you late.  If you're okay with a little revision like that, I'll totally run with the rest.

(And in case it isn't clear, the fires are all out by the time I the GM hand the turn over to you players.)

(And, I am (rashly?) presuming, the gases involved have not yet so rapidly repleted themselves to dangerous concentrations. But I suppose you could add a perception check on that, while I'm arriving to investigate. A chance of a false positive, maybe,
(or a warysome overcaution) as alternative to the non-false negative perception.)

Sure. I thought the paralysis was only for combat though, but it makes sense to also slow you down somewhat.

Ugh, it hertz, Louis mumbles as he crumples to the ground. Totally could have used the lantern as a projectile instead of manually manipulating it over there. Live and learn not to let off, I guess.

Louis, obviously out of it, tries to heal himself using his knife and surface kit.

In that post, I meant psychologically.  Just that I thought your character would take some moments to react to one shock (the spores) before reacting to another (the distant explosion).

(Kppthgkk . . . )  Well, I have rules for thread.

Also there's an item called a healknife.  If you live long enough, should be fun to give it a whirl.

Also you are aware that there is a doctor who can perform the same treatment without the potential to kill you? Cause if you roll a fail, you probably will kill yourself.

I figure at some point, you're just gonna run outta fucks to give and just off yourself whenever you get hurt at all. It's not like there's any downsides to it. Hangover? Suicide will fix that. Stubbed your toe? Suicide. Headache? Suicide. Papercut? Suicide.
