I am noting the request about the cultist hood.

nothing short of a Total Party Kill will stop the plot, and likely not even then.

It is my hope that I could kill everybody and still advance the story via the next group.  The real question would be whether there's enough player interest to rebuild after a clear "ending."  I'd likely have to start a new thread and stuff.

. . . Ooh, I enjoy narrating.  Again, with so many of you, this update is long.  I'll post it tomorrow after I am comfortable it all works.

Previous -- Next

(Are you folks still okay with these extensive updates?  To give everybody a response for what you do, I'm winding up writing more and more.  I try to keep it to "entertainment" and "information you might actually use," but I still think these updates are more verbose than most games.  Clearly more so than Roll To Dodge games usually are.)

Tohil appears appreciative of the recently-shaped art.  You also are appreciative of fine headwear: these hoods that the older exiles had in their wheelbarrow are made of a remarkable scaly green leather, perhaps strong enough to protect your noggin as your mining helmet does.  You can only imagine what sorts of people wear hoods like this!  You remove your helmet, pack it into your bag, and put on a hood instead.  Now, in your bag you also have the rest of your splitter wands . . .

John heads off westward, finding that the tunnel goes a long, long distance into the shale to the south.  Dwain splits to the northwesterly tunnel, where matters get a little interesting.  First you observe another region with orange-colored patches on the walls.  Then, after a loop around, you find what looks to be a coal deposit that . . . exploded.  You can see a line across the ground of scattered rubble and scorch marks.  In addition to the remaining coal in the walls, you find the occasional loose lump that must have bounced around.  Whenever this happened, it would have been like a small earthquake.

To the north of it is another deep tunnel, so, well, that was a successful information-gathering expedition.  You feel satisfied.

This context nonetheless makes it alarming to hear the BOOM! of Tohil's splitter wand.

You poke the brightly-colored corner and the shale flies away into shingles, leaving a large chunk of orangey mineral to clatter down on top, completely intact.  Wow!  It's like the weirdo mineral is treated differently--intelligently, even.  That's the power of magic, right?

Spoiler: Tracking (click to show/hide)

Dustan is using the power of eyes.  And mind.  Where you entered this section of the caverns was a great amount of debris caused by a partial cave-in.  Almost perfect for tracking the movements of figures like the hoarding wastrels, and, say, a stolen wheelbarrow.

The challenge is that your own group trampled this area, too, with your two separate wheelbarrows.  You try your best to backtrack from where your group set up camp.  To put it plainly, you don't find any footprints other than the one wastrel you killed.

The remainder of effort at this time is in the creative arts.  Bob carves another image into the rock, this time showing a holy healer extending a hand towards one dying!  At least, that was your intention: the end result might be open to a little interpretation, but from the right angle could be called fine work.

Meanwhile, obviously, Gary is shedding more blood.  You withdraw into yourself, focused on the sole goal of making a helm out of this severed rock hydra head, or at least a skull cap.  Ah, and look at all the tools available to you in this wheelbarrow!  There's glass, leather, iron . . . you settle for grabbing a dagger and commence hollowing out the skull from below.

. . . The only positive thing to be said is that you don't paralyze yourself.  Perhaps the effect fades after the monster's death, or perhaps the paralytic agent is diluted by the blood and brains you spill.  You can't see what you're doing through all the gore, and you get the displeasing impression that the skull-cracking noises include parts you had wanted to keep intact.  Grr.

Some notes.  You have now seen the entire visible map.  If you're unsure, follow the links to previous updates.

On the ground there is a 5 kg lump of what you presume to be bindstone.  And this particular corner may have only gotten you the one lump, but there's a lot more in the rocks if it interests you.  Density varies more than I allow the players to see on the surface.

If you want more low-value coal, the explosion area in the northwest has four 3 kg chunks.

Gary continues crafting furiously. Any components that are damaged can be replaced using the other materials in the cart.

"Interesting! I'm almost certain these wands are magical! I wonder why we haven't seen such miraculous things in the surface?"
Examine the orange ore, then take the ore and put it on a wheelbarrow. Closely examine these wands, then try to remove the bone parts and open one to see what is inside. What are these things made of?

Eugh. I think i will pick up that coal and carry it. Never know when we need another campfire. I will also make another carving, that of the current exiles having a Rock Lizard for breakfast,if we are still not going anywhere. Might as well use the graphite i have to plan the carving out a little better.

(Not wishing to interfere, w.r.t. coal taking, but if you're busy carving down there, you don't know about the coal, and are otherwise distracted. But, I tell you what, I'll pick up one 3kg lump (topping off my pack-weight!) and come back with my info. If we want another Fresh Air fire before we move off, it might be useful. Or anybody that wants it can have it. And the rest, if we actually end up leaving that way.)

But, mostly, I'm coming back to see what a mess (certainly with one new exile; possibly in a moment a second or even third new exile!) has been made, and offering people the chance to decide to move on and thus maybe discover the delights of the Big City, hereabouts (or at least the out-of-town shopping mall), the better to swap degradable goods for more practical survival supplies.

To Tohil/RGUN, in particular, if I get chance to say anything in time: "We can show you where they make those, if we can find the place soon. And where you can probably get some more. Maybe learn how they're made."

Speaking of a mess, someone should collect the paralytic venom for later use for smearing on weapons. Also, splitter wands are precious, just use it to blast bindstone instead of breaking them.

We have a lot of them, they almost never get used and they are cheap.

((It's the classic problem with consumable items, they never get used because they are deemed precious, but are also not sold because they are useful. However, we do get a direct conversion from splitter wand cost to ore value, so with what we know Glowstone (5 glowstone to 8 splitters), Workstone (5:6 unrefined, 2:3 refined), and Rock Salt (5:6) would directly give a profit, with hematite and Etherstone possibly being 1:1 after refinement. We don't know what Bindstone is worth, but methinks a lot considering what uses we have seen.))

"Hand me a few of those splitters, we should be able to get quite a bit of this stuff."

Accept some splitters if possible, then start blasting bindstone.

"Sure! But do you think we will have enough space in the wheelbarrows?"
Lend 3 splitter wands to Alyssa and blast some bindstone too, after inspecting the wands (if I have enough time).

be frustrated, and search for other paths in this tunnel. Take one of them with haste and hope to find tracks or hear the wastrels.

**someone work out if we have the space for all that ore, please, after we already had to shuffle to get the wee beastie loaded - and, I forgot to add, consider whatever shinies we may come across at the next stop-off point...**

((Not really OOC, but I'm not yet 'there' to raise the IC point. Consider this psychic.))
