(i want to set a permanent base up here. plenty of great bindstone,a water source, and potential for a farm plot. plus my dude has masonry skill for exactly that purpose. Perhaps i can even build a stairwell up to reach the town.As a side note,my dude got bricked on the head so he is a bit weird.)
"Bricked on the head"? Just checking: your character description said you dropped a rock on somebody
else, so is this a case of confusion or an actual addition to the story?
Now, as to setting up a base. I want to say "yes." I love the idea of claiming a space for yourself. But there are problems:
If the group isn't completely and wholly interested in joining you, then the group will split up, and I the GM will be overwhelmed telling two very different stories. How different? Well, even if the whole group joined you, then I'd need to rewrite the plot so that
the plot came to
you instead of the other way around. There would be a "building the home" phase and a "heading out to trade for resources" phase. A different game, really. And so, if the group split, I'd have to tell
both plots. Pain.
But if you think about it, would that sort of thing even work? The caves shift. If you left to trade your mined resources, how long would it be before you returned?
In that light, though not a single player has picked up on this yet, there is a mechanism in the game for carving out your own "home." Literally. In a place where you wouldn't have to worry about all the shifts and the monsters. (Well, not as many.) Look around/ask around and you'll find it.
So, in short, please be nice to the GM . . . !
(Lastly, a note. One thing I did when the game started was try to enforce player movement. This is less clear now than back then: to start, the players were limited not only because they needed food, but also because I thought I would quantify candle-use. That is, if the players took too long to get into the plot, they'd run out of candles and die in the dark. I removed the candle-counting mechanic--lots of effort, little entertainment--so I can't force you to leave in this manner, but still.)
Now still need an action from
Alyssa Alpine (Rautherdir).
