Whip my sling out and take a shot towards where the magic user is. Then run in that direction, getting my sword out.

(So, Rauth out hunting with sling+sword the cursing wastrel heard in the dark, whilst Ziizo is going in with sharp attack on the remaining wastrel on the edge of vision, and I imagine Dustan could add to that second, too. Was going to sling a Seeker Skull (at the dark one, perhaps) but it might get messy if others are charging in.)

If I'm not first to get an attack on target E (hammer - there's the blunt protection, but I haven't actually hit yet, to get negative results) then instead be ready to aid any of the others who seems at risk from their respective targets (Dustan is injured, and also fighting E, so give that priority).

But I know there are probably others in the dark. If I detect any others in the dark (where Rauth isn't) before I'm called upon to comit to the above, take the third option and sling a Skull at such a likely target and follow that up with me and my hammer.

Obviously I can't do it all, it's all about reactions.

Unfortunate. Maybe I had better learn from the experts. But there are still options... project my Way around my allies, shielding them from the filth's foul magicks.

focus on defence and attack only if I see a opening to end this quickly.

(Right, still a weekday!  Quick replies!)

So that's everyone.  From my perspective, your actions are a really interesting mix of "good idea" and "bad idea."  Back tomorrow!

Whew, the update is effectively ready, but I know better than to rush it.  I'll relax and get back to you tomorrow.

Previous -- Next

Ready?  'Cause I am.

Spoiler: Combat round order (click to show/hide)

. . . Dustan, Alyssa Alpine, John, Dwain, hoarding wastrel cultist E, the mysterious hidden one.

Dustan knows enough about medicine to judge that "bleeding = bad" and carefully leans back from combat--also carefully avoiding that worrisome amnesiac robe as John swings past with a pick.  The effect is nothing short of incisive.

Hoarding wastrel cultist E has been struck down!

Alyssa Alpine tries a projectile follow-up, this time a chunk of shale directed toward whomever inserted magic into the agenda, but it sails off into the darkness.  Alyssa then sails off after it, sword in hand, to try more personal commentary.

Dwain, looking for the best place to contribute, scans the whole battlefield.

(And the timing is just perfect, so I'll roll the last attack(s) after further setting the scene . . . )

Spoiler: Just counting stuff (click to show/hide)

You hear shouts from around the northern face of the building!  These seem like barked commands, but shortly thereafter the voice turns to an angry chant or song.  And . . . then it all goes away?

No, it's only the chanting that goes away; new dagger-wielding cultists enter the room!

To the north, it is instead Overseer who meets the chanter face to face.  Or, as it were, the cantor, flanked by a pair of cultists.

Spoiler: Last chance for peace (click to show/hide)

Overseer finds that "extending" the circle of calm doesn't seem viable, especially not in the face of immediate danger; but you get the impression your preparation does aid you in what comes next.  The cantor concludes a chant and a bolt of darkness whizzes by you, pulling at your lifeforce, but still failing to hit you a direct blow even as you remain stock-still.  The cantor gestures with an iron mace and the cultists move forward to attack!

Speaking of, Alyssa feels the decided impact of a mace to the face, straight out of the shadows.  You're sent reeling!  Hunting in low light goes so much better when you're the only predator in it!  The only consolation is some nearby grunt of pain; it seems that this foe is particularly bad at straining itself while trying to slaughter all humans.

And Dwain tries out the one tactic so far untried: the "seeker skulls" from Rock Bottom.  A quick slinging gets the magically-imbued ant lemming skull airborne, heading toward the new arrivals, and it flies unerringly point-first into one's arm.  Take that, reinforcements!  Didn't bring ranged weapons, did you?!

John (ziizo): you told me that you'd want to light up your lantern if the wastrel were dead, but you went first (and killed it) so I'll need confirmation if you want to do that next.

Dustan (Dustan Hache): you also have a sling.  Would you have wanted to join in slinging at the new arrivals, or stay on the defensive, or what?

The dog behind the man behind the beard.
Immortality like that would be even more game breaking than four Aaron's in one place.
You're both so obviously scum that this is a surprisingly difficult decision.

"I see. Well, I suppose it's time to test the might of my Way."

Stand, beckon the filth towards me. Hit each one with a strike both physical and spiritual in nature, using the power of the circle to rebuke the filth's power.

(Retreat? Back into the workshop?)

I don't think I've got time to do much lighting of lanterns. Take a vial, take a swig, take the battle to them...
