Be ready to follow up on that javelin throw in case it doesn't kill. a quick stab through the neck ought to do it.

Ah, hello, sorry for the delay, been busy today. Looks like I've been mostly pre-empted by everyone, but I think I'd be happy to follow up the following up of the javelin, as backup backup in case there's not enough efforts to remove all witnesses.

If not needed so directly, though, I am very interested in the omegas, amd looking/listening out for signs of imminent discovery..

(Sorry, rushed post,  hope that makes sense.)

Previous -- Next

As stated, I'm starting with Alyssa Alpine (Rautherdir)'s javelin before doing anyone else's rolls.  So many different types of roll . . .

I did that as an ordinary attack because it's much more complicated to kill with a thrown weapon than it is to cut a hostage's throat.  Because it started a fight instead of ending one, I'll roll for a combat round among the melee people:

Spoiler: Combat round order (click to show/hide)

. . . Dwain, Dustan, hoarding wastrel cultist C.

Overseer is determined.  With your box of holy symbols, you create a bulwark of faith about you, then a spear of faith as well.  There go the "" symbols, the "" symbols, and all the others.  Sure, you have no idea what they mean, but they speak to you.  Now it is time that they shout.

. . . And your mind is jammed shut.  You retain your calm in the storm of corruption, but it's like being on stage and forgetting the words!  Like shouting for a crowd's attention but then losing whatever you were going to say . . .

Meanwhile, just a short distance to the southeast, that leatherworker has worked his last leather.  "His"?  You know, you can't really tell in the dark, especially with people so emaciated.  Ah, well, Alyssa Alpine flings a phasestrike javelin with his, her, or its name on it.

But ultimately with a minimum of blood on it, as the javelin lodges against a rib with insufficient force to go further in.  The enemy is aware of you now!

The wastrel staggers out of the workshop, to be met by a rush from Dustan and DwainDwain gets a good stab, nearly enough to kill, but it takes Dustan swooping in from the side to finish the job!

Hoarding wastrel cultist C has been struck down!

Alyssa motions to John, barely visible at the edge of lamplight, and John navigates the uneven dark spaces to come down to the group.  That all sounded like a fight; looks like your fellow exiles just took out a group of hoarding wastrels.  Erm . . . that wasn't too noisy, was it?

And I'm probably being way way too subtle, but something did indeed happen in all those mysterious rolls.  I'm eager to see how this scene works out!

Carefully peer around the corner into the room north of me. if more wasterels are coming this way, get ready to ambush and impale.

*sigh* "It seems I have gone off my Way. Perhaps trying to combine all these different Ways into one was a bad idea... but I have not reached the apex of my potential in my first attempt."

Try again. This time, focus on my own inner Way before trying to activate these other Ways.

Firstly, corpses lying about make for a messy working area, very nonoptimal. Working round Ziizo's looting, start to hide corpses under something like the piled leather (and/or drape some of it over corpses, whatever seems better). Examine leather, whilst doing so.

Secondly, get up close to a horseshoe/omega, ponder it and see about the possibility of taking one. Or more.

(I assume that, between keeping a watch (Dustan), doing other cleaning up (Rauth), and the other looting, someone's thinking of the vials. Technically, that's our primary target.)

I'm trying to figure out if the darkness means it's more realistic for me to let you mistake the open space for "a room to the north," or if I should direct you to the first view of this area because you'd likely remember it.  You now stand in the building described in that post, and you've seen that just outside of the "doorway" north of you is open space and then the cavern wall.  The carving northeast of the leatherworks is on the outer wall itself.

In fact, I should go back and add that small bit of visible cavern wall to the image in the most recent update . . . okay, done.

Well, I can update even with that little bit of map uncertainty.  Just in case peering to the north wasn't as interesting as you expected, Dustan (Dustan Hache), if there's anything else you want to do right now then you can go before anybody else.

Dustan leaves the bodies where they are and moves (with speed and caution) to the open . . . "doorway" north of you.  What is with the construction in this place?  Anyway, the magenta light, still shining from somewhere inside the building, continues to give faint illumination to the north cave wall.  Both the cave, and this building, extend further east than your night vision.  There's no movement.  Looking overhead, this area is indeed open to the air above, and by the very-distant-and-vague glow from the cavern ceiling (shadows against shadows, you see) you guess this building is about two more "room's lengths" wide in the east direction.

Whew . . . what's that smell over here?  Rotting meat?

Alyssa Alpine can smell it, too, coming up to retrieve the phasestrike javelin.  It's nasty in this corner, and it's not just tanned hides.  Distracting.

Overseer, back near the wheelbarrows, is beyond questions of base senses.

You have achieved calm despite the stunning corruptive force.  Looking within, you prepare your own mind as though donning heraldry or robes of office; when you look without, you will be prepared to say "this is the force of the mind as I understand it."  Followed, of course, by sentiments to the effect of "so kneel!"

And so you reach out, calling on the holy symbols around you to sweep away the enemy force and replace it with your own calm.  You feel it jolt!  You have disturbed the enemy's own balance and calm!  The power battering at the edges of your mind is not exactly "swept away," no, but now you stand on your own before it and it knows you are here.  Like you are within the eye of a living storm.

Within the building to the southeast, John searches the dead bodies.  Wow, it's super-simple here.  They're dressed in wall tiger leather tunics and hoods.  Each is carrying an iron dagger and a waterskin.  That's it.

Dwain is wanting to move those bodies somewhere.  You feel grim concern about the symbols on the walls; will they react to the violence?  To your presence?  You are forced to conclude that they will not; they are inert, just like they would be if they really were horseshoes.  There's one on each wall, so three in total, and since you're standing at the middle of their triangle you'd probably know if something were going to happen.  That's how triangles work.  Everybody knows that.

So you get started by grabbing one body and moving it under the leathers in the corner.  Hmm, looking at leather goods in Rock Bottom suggests you've got some scaled turkey, some wall tiger, and . . . something gray.  Anyway, there a "" symbol here, and it look like it's simply on a spike nailed into the vague shale "wall" of the building.

carefully sneak westward, looking for doorways and other openings that might lead to areas with enemies in them. be ready to ambush or defend myself on a moments notice.

carefully sneak westward

Erm . . . do you mean more like southwest?  Because west directly from your current position would take you closer to the lit area where you came into this cavern (with the wheelbarrows).

(I ask because you could also have meant east.)
