Lots of actions, lots of rolls, brief results.  So it goes!

Spoiler: Should the GM be nice? (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Observatoritude (click to show/hide)

Overseer sizes up the situation.  The other exiles are clearly on the brink of contact.  You close your eyes, take deep breaths, and try to sink into that state of calm.  You are slammed headfirst by an outside force, sending you reeling!  There will be no calm in your mind while this force holds sway!

John has a "stupid" idea to draw attention.  Alyssa Alpine agrees all-heartedly with the assertion of stupid.  You go to grab John and disuade him from this path; fortunately, at the last moment, you remember the perils of grabbing hold of that amnesiac robe--would it recognize friend from foe?--and grab onto his backpack to haul him away and hold a sincere conversation about strategy.

John, miffed, goes back to the wheelbarrows, where Dustan is making quick changes to loadout.  Then Dwain, Alyssa, and Dustan advance into the dark . . .

There's a clear breeze as though this area is open to the air above.  Perhaps it's just chance, but Dwain does much better in the dark than on a previous occasion one could mention.  You follow the cavern wall to the south; it goes almost straight, but when there's a sharp jut-out you manage not to abrade your face this time.

Around the corner and the magenta light shows clearly again.  There's another cracked wall, this one the far wall of a workspace.  That's a leatherworks, isn't it?  With someone busy in it, thankfully hunched over and not looking your way.  The three of them must be together.  And what are all these things on the ground?

Piles of tanned hides . . . is that some meat over there?  . . . Ooh, glass vials!  And . . .

Wait, there are small strange objects on the interior walls.  In the dim light, they're almost impossible to see, and at first glance you would have mistaken them for the horseshoes nailed up by superstitious folk.  But they're symbols, some dark "" shape, mounted here and there.

sneak up and try to do a silent take-down. In the dim gloom on one of the guarding wastrels. Be ready to intercept the working wastrel if he detects us.

"well I am bored, my short attention span and lack of patience are two of the many reasons I am a horrible thief"

stuff the lantern in the backpack (so it proyects less light) and advance a bit in the tunnel until the end of the hall (don't continue the path just wait there)

I was going to suggest an attempt to get vials without direct combat, but I suppose that's a fairly slim chance, at this point.

Oh, ok. Roll with it. Mirror Dustan, to primarily use the butchering knife on my parallel back-turned target, then. Not exactly an easy task, but maybe surprise offsets difficulty. Thpugh if all goes well, that's two silent kills of those with the backs turned. And at least one more chance of a person able to rush forward and deal with the third one before the noisy ones get alerted, once things kick off, or other quiet ones that we just haven't noticed yet. (But I have a bad feeling about this, and especially those Omegas, for the record.)

"Blasted filth. Their dark Way must fall before me..." Pull out a holy symbol, focus on it, and start striking at the opposition mentally.

A burning lantern put into a backpack . . . if it's not actually dangerous, it probably would mean smothering the lantern, even with the flap atop the backpack held open.  I mean I'll allow it just to keep things going, but I don't think you'll get any benefit from the lantern this way.

Also, I see two bloodthirsty individuals enjoying the chance to tempt fate.  Fun!  You saw from the stealth rolls that you've got numbers in your favor, but I'd remind people that if ever you want a manual boost to your rolls, you still have that ether cola in the wheelbarrow.  (So strange that I have to remind players about a magic item.  I feel like I'm becoming an advertising agent for ether cola . . . )

You mean we should Taste The Feeling if we take the Pause That Refreshes? Something For Everyone, I suppose, if we Refresh Everything and Dare For More. What's The Worst That Can Happen?

(Hold hand signal discussion with fellow sneakers..?)

I'm not actually convinced the numbers are ultimately in our favour, but I'm more convinced that they're better if I'm there. More fool me.

John is storing the lantern in the backpack so the light doesn't alert the wastrels we are there but when the fight starts he can easily pull it out and run towards the fight (he expects the wastrels to have advantage in a battle in the dark).

But an accidental smothering of the flame makes sense.

Stay somewhat hidden, but be ready to Javelin anything threatening Dwain or Dustan (or myself).

Ooh, strategy.  I can see that playing out in any of a number of ways, not all of which are catastrophic.  ('Cause it's magic.)

No time to write tonight, and this weekend could be busy, too.  But I'll be back as I can!

Previous -- Next

I'm having fun.  Are you having fun?  I'm having fun.

Dustan leads a stealthy charge to assassinate the hoarding wastrels before they can do their nefarious . . . uh, leatherwork?  Or something, probably nefarious.  So killing them is probably okay.  That one wastrel this morning attacked you unprovoked, right?

You sneak up to the building, Dustan on one side and Dwain on the other.  Dustan snakes his workstone knife around the target with excellent precision; the hoarding wastrel has the briefest glimpse of the peril before being rendered unable to speak.

Hoarding wastrel cultist A has been struck down!

Dwain gets out an iron knife for the task (aww, no hammer-based assassination?), and, though more clumsy, you manage to stab the neighbor at the same time.  Blood pours out . . .

Hoarding wastrel cultist B has been struck down!

You lower the bodies to the ground.  Alyssa Alpine watches for danger, but the remaining figure in the workshop does not seem to have noticed the events, nor does anything new leap out at you.  Yet.

John, with some rearrangement, has been approaching from behind, and you arrive at the edge of the lantern light just in time to see the moving human figures.  The violence is hard to identify, though.  All to be heard are the distant metal banging sounds and more-distant chanting . . .

Overseer is listening to the same chanting, in a sense, but it is only within your mind.  You can feel them out there.  What a remarkable feeling, this intrusion within what had once been the familiar calm of meditation.  You manage to relax . . . which is better than you'd accomplished before; but you are alone, and nearly untested, standing before forces that envelop your head in a corrupting fog.  And what if they "hear" you coming, hmm?  What then?

. . . There was a possibility that I would need to roll a combat round order and see if Alyssa Alpine (Rautherdir) would wind up pegging that javelin, but no.  Now I await your follow-up.  As previously, weak success for meditation means that Overseer (FallacyofUrist) is now better prepared to deal with a future "mentalism challenge."  Assuming you go that way while your buddies are shedding all the blood.

"Their cursed Way is still strong. I am still inexperienced in my own Way. But I have not lost, and I have not yet given up."

Take several holy symbols from my kit, arrange them in a circle around me. Take several more, and arrange them in an arrow pointing towards the filth's encampment.  Sit down in the circle, focus, and begin attacking, channeling my focus and my Way through the arrow, using it as an attack against the wastrels. Channel my focus and my Way through the circle, using it as a shield against their power.

Since you were waiting from last turn, I'll definitely let you peg the thing first.  Which means that Dustan (Dustan Hache) and Dwain (Starver) can expect to see the javelin sailing by when they decide their action for this turn.  Assuming you don't fail terribly on the throw (though at least the magic seems to keep you from hitting your friends).
