I've probably done all my mind can handle, here. There are two onward paths, by my count, one past the volatile etherstone (which I'm not that aware of, anyway) and one off past the vertiginous workings (that also have not revealed anything (by meta-knowledge, alone, it's likely Mindstone, which would be interesting but for the in-game incomprehension).

Retrieve a barrow and my lantern (in whichever order seems most logical) and go through to the pinch between the 'Mindstone' area and the Haematite one. Leave the barrow and lantern there and go back to examine the MS while I'm waiting, for as long as I can stand it, then the cracked ante-chamber and then move the whole kit and kaboodle on to the iron-workings, seeking understanding.

(No-one's going to go for the other exit at all unless someome has the bright idea of exploding the etherstone vapours (which I'd rather be nowhere near) or forging through in darkness

Actually, nix that. I have two anti-headinjury items of headwear! (Not that they'll work like that, but...) Retrieve lantern, and then extinguish it whilst checking through the etherstone area. If the concentrations die down before I hit dead-end or other problems, carefully relight. In the meantime, let all my senses but sight be my guide as I embrace the darkness...

(Wish me luck.)

Or, if everyone's rushing off NEwards, before I can do any of that, revert to the plan as struckthrough.

Okay, this looks like a lot of back-and-forth ending in indecision.

The vote from Alyssa Alpine (Rautherdir) comes down to "Do what the group needs."
The vote from John (ziizo) comes down to "Wait and see."
The vote from Overseer (FallacyofUrist) is, of course, meditation, which is fine.

And then, Dwain (Starver), you might be interested to compare these two maps:

People have seen the whole region to the south.  Of course, your character personally might not know this, so wandering around could make sense; the question just becomes whether I should post a whole update of people twiddling their thumbs and waiting to see if anything new happens.

I can do that.  Should I?

What would people do AFTER THAT?  Are people interested in leaving, and should we fast-forward to that point?  We'll still need input from Dustan (Dustan Hache).

I now see that there's (likely) a link betwixt the clockwise and widdershins areas (what's more, that the former is handier to pick my lantern up then skirt around the chamber's rock surround). And that there may be barely a squeak of still-dark wall to examine (and likely to show nothing). I had imagined I had seen dark-shaded walls at both sides of this point (and had not compared side-by-side/top-to-bottom), but pinch-zoom to confirm the lack of stippling reveals them to be more like dark-shaded floor tiles, I see now.

Though the combined revelations aren't really mine, just Group Consciousness.  In the absence of other group actions,  I'd feel happier having paced it out, as described. No leaving by the south-facing exit-arrows (unless everyone skirts that way) I should like to get lantern, then barrow then carefully trundle it (with lantern extinguished for moments of undue vapours!) around this South West Passage, as it were, to perhaps return back up the South East Passage, whilst everybody else is standing (or lotus-positioning) around do nothing else. Then tackle the vertigo seams and beyond in the direction of the East Exit arrows so long as I still have free actions to pursue (and peruse) all the likely investigations my curiosity is bent towards.

Does that sound too much to specify? Or have I made too many assumptions that I will get any further than the point at which I suffer concuscion, or worse, in the dark?  I would invite a chaperone to shadow me, but I'm not sure anybody feels the need to help so I'll probably just have to shadow myself. I'm sure you can figure out when to pause and introduce suitable reaction-demands for me/others to respond to.

That does sound like a lot, but I've been prepared to stop people early if needed, yes.  And it looks like we'll have a mostly-passive, waiting-to-see-if-the-sky-falls sort of round.  Still need Dustan (Dustan Hache).

I will return!

just stick with the team. Think about how to improve my healing with the knowledge of things like healthstone and basic medical care.

Previous -- Next

Hello, watcher-type-person!  Glad to have more company.

Okay, I'll go with what I've been told by the team.  The end result may not be terribly surprising, but it will be, in its own way, informative.  And . . . there's a little ambiguity about wheelbarrows, since Dwain (Starver) wants to move one while exploring and Alyssa Alpine (Rautherdir) wants to move them all to their destination, but whatever.

Spoiler: Other rolls (click to show/hide)

Alyssa Alpine regroups with John and reports that there is a tunnel heading further east in the northeastern end of this cavern.  No clear danger.  The two of you keep an eye and ear out for more peril.  You see only your team; hear only the squeaking of a wheelbarrow as Dwain loses himself off in the distance . . .

Dwain, having retrieved the lantern, walks southwest, blithely taking leave of the group--with an empty wheelbarrow in case of goodies.  You contemplate whistling.  You decide against.

Around the turn into the southwest, you pass into the airspace around an empty cluster of what you're reasonably sure would have been etherstone--just judging by the color.  When you get a whiff of nasty air and your lantern begins to react, you extinguish the latter and proceed in the darkness until the smell fades again.  It is, metaphorically, a breeze: unlike last time, you hold your head high without smashing it on anything.  Light the lantern again and look around . . .

Seems good.  A tunnel going south, though, might not be as helpful as east, if you're still looking for hoarding wastrels in the "west-east" dimension.  You start looping up to areas you recognize in the eastern open space.

Speaking of which, Overseer continues to pursue a state of calm in the easternmost (messy) chamber.  Patience brings reward.  This time you feel in tune with the elements of the cave around you.  That's odd; wasn't it a feeling of "ascent" the first time you did this?  No matter, for the outside force pushing in on you can achieve no grip on a mind now in harmony.  You can tell the force still lingers: it is still there, growing stronger the further you look to the east.  But from your center of quiet meditation, you gather strength to defeat it.

Overseer now has +1 to the next roll that needs it!

Dustan is approaching a different matter with a more scientific mind: medicine and healthstone.  That packaged vitality was something, wasn't it?  Wow, maybe you can use the mineral in medicine!  You'd need only work it into your materials somehow.  Maybe healthstone splints for broken bones?  Can you weave it into healthstone fabric?  Ooh, what about healthstone needles and healthstone thread, stitching up the injuries?!

. . . All of which falls flat when you remember that healthstone is an edible rock, more like a slightly-soft salt crystal, and not a metal or fiber to be worked, stretched, or threaded.  You might need to use magic . . .

I drew that map mid-action, because that's the only way to show you what Dwain (Starver) saw, but by now you (Dwain) are back up in the northerly parts of the map standing with everyone else (except Overseer (FallacyofUrist), still in the east).

You had reported wanting to head toward the east-facing exit tunnel visible in the last update.  And so?

while true, what about powdered healthstone as a replacement for bandages? It is something that might merit experimentation, provided I had a supply to use.

Get my wheel barrow and regroup while I'm thinking about it.

Ah, I see...
((Oh. Missed that somehow.))

Group back with the others. Assist with carrying wheelbarrows to their destination.
...was added since I saw the original state of that post. I was mostly wheeling my barrow because I hadn't seen anyone heed my advice on moving barrows (ok, to the messy chamber, when I said it) at the point I defined my actions. Still, as a free spirit, I'm not going to complain about my independant barrowing adventure...  ;)

Continue as per lengthy investigative plan, in the absence of any hurry-up or other disturbance. Or time-slicing pause in action whilst another status update is given to those not remaining frustratingly sedantary. ;)

"Interesting. Many Ways."

Interesting. Since I'm in tune with the cave, maybe I can "map" it out? Try to figure out a way to get to the east?

Yes, would you like literally to travel east?  An eastern tunnel was witnessed here:

Me, whatever happens, I'd really rather people didn't just stand around.  Or sit around.  Or whatever.  I can roll up anything else you want along the way, but still.
