Tum te tum . . .

So I'm waiting on a reactionary action from Dwain (Starver), a revised response from Ragnarok (PaPaj), a proper position from Dustan (Dustan Hache), and an abboty anything from Overseer (FallacyofUrist).  Complicated!

I can see multiple things you could do right now.  Some of you have interesting priorities.  There's a vote for leaving.  Anything that needs a consensus, though, needs a consensus.

Just go with the majority, and don't forget my barrow.

If the abbot is currently content, I'm all for wandering off (if people are wandering off), though if someone insists on manual mining I might join in, and I'd really have to hear enquiry/request/demand before even considering further splitting my Splitters.

Basically, it looks like I'd summarise with just go with majority action, if spiritual momentum has petered out - but may be open to prodding of one sort or another.

Continue meditating, seeking the way.

Whoa, I was reading those replies and bumped my head against the end there.  "Whatever folks want to do, whatever folks want to do, we're just gonna pull up a nice section of floor and stay right here."  Ragnarok (PaPaj), since you'll be sleeping by the campfire overnight anyway, I interpret your action as another vote for "whatever folks want to do."  As the person trying to make sure stuff happens, I become concerned for stagnation.

Since I'd like you to see new content, I note that the only two real votes are John (ziizo) saying "go North" and Overseer (FallacyofUrist) saying "meditation now."  If it gets the game moving along, then I'll just give you a meditation roll overnight or something, and let the only call for action (out of six/seven people!) carry the group out the far tunnel.

Is that okay?

If so, it'll take me awhile to write what comes next.  There sure is content down that tunnel . . .

Well, the answers to my "hey, I'll work with what you do" idea did seem counterproductive.  The best idea I have, then is to revise my action to try to teach Overseer the art of meditating whilst walking, without bumping into walls stalagmites...

That'll do just fine.  And as I said, it'll take me a bit to update.  See you (hopefully) tomorrow!

Previous -- Next

(Apologies to Overseer (FallacyofUrist) if you really, really didn't want to get up from meditation.  And I hope everyone's alright with slinging your mined rocks into your own pack, because, well, few of you gave me actual instruction on that.)

So!  Everything's ready . . .

This night the exiles face what may be their greatest challenge to date: apathy.  "So, should we keep mining or go exploring?"  "Just go with the majority."  "Just go with majority action."  "Okay I won't do anything and just go to sleep."  In the end, it falls to John to get the mixed groups on a collective course down the northern tunnel.  Alyssa Alpine and others pick up their mining goodies, wheelbarrows are put in motion, and the group takes to the distance.

Spoiler: Ooh, inner peace (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Camping overnight (click to show/hide)

The tunnel means another long journey into the dark.  You camp overnight as you go, share water and prepared food, and sleep.  Well, with the exception of Overseer: still experiencing a "spiritual rush," you try to keep your meditation session from interruption.  Dwain provides helpful commentary to keep you in the "zone."  By next morning you feel great!

Overseer now has +1 to the next roll that needs it!

( . . . The bonus is back.  Dude, if you need a place to use your newfound "abbot" energies, keep reading.)

Day 10, Morning

Somewhere outside of this sinkhole the sun must be rising.  You can almost feel the breeze.  Oh, wait, you really can . . .

Light!  Voices!  People!  Civilization!  Yes, you had been climbing a bit of a slope on the way, and have now come to the floor of the gigantic sinkhole, a vast rocky plain stretching into the distance.  In fact, you popped right back out of the same giant stalagmite where Dustan, John, Durenadal, and Overseer first partook of this magenta-lit sight, the town of Rock Bottom.

Guards at the edge watch your approach, each with a bland expression (and a battle axe).  They seem to recognize that a few among you are new.

"You're probably welcome here," one allows.  "If you're here to work.  Then you can stay in Rock Bottom until tomorrow morning.  You can sell your load of goods, too."

The guard next to her adds "And what you don't sell, leave in the bank.  Somebody turned in some lockbox keys."

It is a time of welcome relief for the old exiles, and cautious wonder for the new.  What awaits you in this land of those who no longer see the sun?

. . . You made it!  To those who are new, I detailed the special rules for Rock Bottom right here.  Sure, you can talk to people or stab your fellow exiles or react to whatever else happens in-town as you'd expect.  To summarize the rest:

You can shop.  All that loot you obtained can be sold here, and I'll give you item lists for purchase.  (And maybe someone will even explain "currency" to you.)  You will also get a little more cash than just that because . . .

You can do local work based on your past profession.  Remember you chose one when you signed up for the game?  Just tell me you're ready to do it and then I'll advance the "plot" until tomorrow morning and grant you your rewards for working today.  This will earn you some small change (and "unlock stories").

You can utilize your personal lockbox to store 40 kg of whatever you won't be carrying away.

And you can sleep overnight because doing work here earns you a bed . . . or not necessarily so.  What do I mean?  Click the link already!

And that's in addition to typical roleplaying.  You will be kicked out tomorrow morning, along with all other non-residents.  So, basically, you've got wheelbarrows (and backpacks) full of stuff to sell off and then you can finally let your character live a little.

I await your (terrifying) input!

Simply stated Selling my backpacked workstone...  12 opal..? Expect the same for the severely under-capacity wheelbarrow I also shoved my measly quantity of extra stone into, if there's no argument about that.

Once I spot what others are buying, I shall probably like to buy 1 (7 of 12 opals) to 3 (21..22 of 24 opals) of Ether Cola and/or Seeker Skull (plus sling, if any skulls involved), to complement the rest of the crew. They go for healing, I get (the one, or two out of three) skulls, they go for offensive I got (similarly distributed) skewed to the potions.

If anyone cares to cut me in on any other sale of communally-carted goods (their choice), I'll look wider afield in the shopping list.  Otherwise, straight to clerical work, or whatever you have in mind, exactly as you might expect from what you know of my character, and then (eventually...? It shouldn't be too taxing, and I'll gladly put in overtime to get stuck in, if allowed to) a place to lay my head.  I'm assuming I get that last detail from the general mumbling of the prior visitors.

Unless/until group dynamics change the situation.  We can talk again if they do.

Not too bothered about a lockbox, right now, if there's not enough to pass on to all us n00bs. New equipment plus remaining currency should be carryable.

Once we moved onto the "shopping stage," I was going to post a detailing of everyone's cash.  (Part of what took me so long was making sure I had it ready for you!)  Also, yes, I'd narrate the locals explaining what these items are; so the value of "12" is correct.  Reminder: ether cola is a roll-boosting item, not a healing item, and I'd also post an updated shop inventory for you!

Lastly, I have been developing a scheme for what to do about Durenadal (HugeNerdAndProudOfIt)'s apparent absence.  Should work out in the next update.  Of course I'm still waiting to see what else people want.

Edited P.S.: Also, be advised that you need a waterskin to hold each unit of ether cola.  Now, it so happens that there are two empty waterskins in one of the wheelbarrows (another fact I was going to detail in the salable goods list), but this is getting really complicated.  For now, I'm preparing an interim update with what people have told me so far to keep it all simple, and I'm defaulting to assume you go for weapons: the "packaged vitality" healing item is more expensive.

sell some of the workstone from my barrow.  ask how much it would cost to repair the chainmail, and the value of the chainmail in it's current state.
